Do you have more details? We might be interested
the game is at 7pm at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Tickets are on sale on the 11th Sept
Hi! I (m29) will be solo traveling to Japan from October 27 - November 9.
Tokyo - Oct 27 - Oct 31
Osaka - Oct 31 - Nov 6
Tokyo - Nov 6 - Nov 9
Looking to hopefully chat with some people and potentially meet up. I'm mostly interested in nature, anime, photography, etc. I don't really have anything set in stone for the dates I'll be at each location because I don't want to be bound by reservations, etc. dictating my time.
A tad bit of advice.
I would tell you to fly directly to Osaka once you land in Tokyo
Go to Osaka first and then do Tokyo. Basically 2 legs instead of 3. It'll save you the trouble of having to move hotels and the bullet train travel time going from Tokyo to Osaka
In hindsight, that probably would've made more sense, but my flight is non-refundable and my hotels are booked so it's all good. Definitely won't be my last time in Japan!
If your hotels are free cancellation, you can still cancel and make new bookings
Your flight shouldn't be an issue since you still have to land in Tokyo anyways
Land in Tokyo, then fly to Osaka
Domestic flights are cheap and finding flights to Osaka instead of Tokyo is much more difficult.
Most people fly into Tokyo and then take a flight from the same airport to Osaka
Normally bullet train is better since the travel time to the airport can be annoying, but if you're already at the airport, then you may as well fly
I read your first message too quickly, I get what you're saying. But eh, that's alright. All in all, I want to start my journey in Tokyo. I'm cool with the bullet train travel, I'll just need to look into luggage forwarding
np
Any chance you have any tips on luggage? For instance, I'm considering bringing a carry-on and an empty checked bag for souvenirs. I'm sure I'll be buying too much stuff to fit in the carry-on for the way back. Does that make sense?
Do you have a good personal item?
and by personal item, I'm referring to any item that fits under an airline seat
Typically for people this is a backpack
Yes, I'll be bringing my hiking backpack. 25L backpack
Will that fit under an airline seat?
Yes, I've brought it on several flights over the last few years
There are some ways I would go about luggage
Your carry on + personal item should have all your necessities. Clothes, Electronics, shoes, toiletries, etc. I'd probably leave a ilttle space in your carry on (about 20-30%) empty for extra stuff you buy.
As for the checked, you have a few options
You can bring it and lug it around, you can buy a new one while you're here, or you can do my cheap alternative.
The cheap alternative is to head to a post office or a packing store and pick up a sturdy cardboard shipping box
Dump all your clothes and soft items into the cardboard shipping box and check that as your checked luggage
Its cheap, clothes won't care if they get tossed, and it only needs to survive the trip home
Makes sense! What would you suggest for luggage when traveling between Tokyo & Osaka? I'm guessing using a luggage forwarding service the day before going to the next location and keeping some clothes in my backpack in the meantime is probably the best method there?
If you only have your carry on and your backpack
You don't need to forward luggage
Just take the train
You don't need to special seat reservations for oversized luggage
If its a carry on + backpack it'll easily fit in the overhead
The special seat reservations on the bullet train are for people with oversized luggage
and by oversized, I mean that its bigger than the dimensions allowed by an airline without having to pay a $100 oversized bag fee
Its for like people with skis, etc
Got it, awesome, that makes sense. Thanks for the advice!
Like
That's a Rimowa Trunk 😄
For me, I do 2-3 month trips to Japan
so I bring 1 personal item (a briefcase bag), a carry on, and a checked bag
The checked bag gets shipped between places, but the personal item + carry on are brought with me
Combined they weigh about 40-50 pounds, which is fineby me.
There are a ton of stairs, but I haven't had any issues.
My only warning is not to take any buses if you can help it with luggage
and never take taxis to and from the airport except as an absolute last resort
However sometimes taking a taxi a short distance with luggage is a wise idea.
If you haven't already, download the GO app
Its the leading taxi app in Japan and its in English
Its cheaper than using uber app
I will be In Tokyo from Oct 29 to Nov 3rd. We can catch up once when possible
Hey all. I'll be traveling solo to Japan in October. I'll be in Tokyo from 10/13-10/16 and then Kyoto from 10/16-10/21 with potentially a trip to Fukuoka somewhere during the Kyoto dates, and then ending my trip in Tokyo from 10/21-10/24. I'm really into wrestling, and saw some wrestling talk here from a few months ago. I haven't attended a live event in Japan yet, but I saw that NJPW has an event in the Ryogoku Sumo Hall on 10/14. Wondering if anyone is interested and wants to meet up to go? No idea on the demand of these tickets and if they usually sell out or not, so looking to buy tickets soon once I find out the best way to.
I'd probably organize your schedule differently
I'd land in Tokyo and then fly to Fukuoka if you want to do that
Do Fukuoka for 2 days and then head to Kyoto for 5 days and then do the last 6 days in Tokyo
It takes about 5-6 hours by train from Tokyo to Fukuoka (I've done it)
and Fukuoka is quite far from Kyoto as well
If you want to do Fukuoka, its best to fly there as your first destination after you land in Tokyo
You're already at the airport, so flying to another city is easy
That’s a great point. Something I might look into. I’m somewhat flexible with dates since I made sure to book fully refundable hotels.
@crude wigeon Is this your first time?
Nope, though the previous times weren’t long stays and just for a few days before I left for other places in Asia.
I can recommend a few others areas that I think are worth checking out
If you want to organize your schedule differently
10/13 to 10/14 - Fukuoka
10/15 to 10/16 - Hiroshima + Miyajima
10/17 to 10/21 - Kyoto. Stop by Himeji for a efw hours on the way from Hiroshima to Kyoto
10/22 to 10/24 - Tokyo
If you don't want to do Hiroshima + Miyajima, just remove that segment
and just roll those days into Kyoto and Tokyo
I think 3-4 days is enough for Kyoto but that's just me
I appreciate the input. I’ll look into it and see how it works out.
Definitely either buy the suitcase in Japan at donki for cheap or get the box as MrT mentioned, no point in spending the money for an empty checked bag
Is there any way to get a short term JP phone number that allows incoming texts and allows me to see what the number is before I arrive? I'm seeing a lot of esim options that I can get once I'm there but those are useless when I need a number for advance booking
#internet-sims-pocketwifi
Also maybe someone will chime in different but afaik no, you cannot activate your Japanese number until you get to Japan
maybe someone in japan can activate for you, if you know someone there?
Only option there is if there's someone in this server who can do it, or who can agree to be point of contact with the restaurant and let me know asap if they reach out about anything
If anyone wants to join me for Yoroniku dining later half of October lmk! It’s one of the best meals in Tokyo
that looks deliciousss (but won't be in tokyo the later half 😔)
Please let us know if you don't like the raw meat or the rare way it is grilled (however, please note that it is not the best way to serve it).
this wording is sending me for some reason
"please let us know if you have SHIT TASTE" but nicely worded
I've never heard of the place, but if it's the Yakiniku place in Minato City it looks really promising. Is it a famous place?
I'm in Tokyo and in a hotel in Meguro between the 15-18 october if that coincides with your plans?
Yes pretty famous and very high rated. Been many times it’s very very good and not crazy expensive.
15-18 should be around when I’m arriving so I’ll update you. I still don’t have a flight booked
team last minute 🤝
Sounds good, I haven't booked any activities other than hotels yet, but I'm planning be more active in this thread in the coming weeks and see if anyone is interested in meeting up
This restaurant looks really nice, would fit in nicely with a night out in Shibuya 😄
@signal sundial : in the google sheet you have a potential meetup for Karaoke the 15th, is that still on and are there room for more people?
Karaoke in Japan is definitely on my bucket list 🎤
We are still interested in Karaoke, but probably it will be a couple days later
16th or 17th, I adjusted the dates.
I'm in Tokyo until morning of the 18th, so if there is room for one more I would be down.
@vapid relic @scenic sail @queen dock @pale cobalt @keen cedar @bright flower @brittle gulch How do we feel about Karaoke Kan Shibuya for karaoke place? It looks like Shibuya/Shinjuku areas have the most karaoke (most well known that i can see it at least anyway) so those areas seem to be best bets
(on the 6th for those remembering)
Sounds good, pretty much all of the ones in Shin/Shib are same same but good.
There's a good one right near kabukicho but it fills up quick coz of the location
Oh if you got more knowledge on it we can follow your lead too. I cap out at a google search lol
Also am i reading right, and do most karaoke places OPEN at 10 pm?
Just FYI the karaoke spots in the middle of nightlife areas like Shibuya and Shinjuku are the smallest, dirtiest, and most expensive
They’re much nicer if you go even one station out
What's wrong with dirty and expensive 😂 that's the best kind when you're partying.
You best be joining us Habo
I don’t mind go slightly further out if it’s a meaningful difference. Good excuse to check out a different area
But also if these are not that expensive in the main areas that’s fine too. You are planning so I am happy to defer to you - lots of opinions makes planning hard
My fave because not only is it nice but it’s very cheap
https://maps.app.goo.gl/PYnKEam38NtWYT4d8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
If that’s a bit far then Shimokita is a good option https://maps.app.goo.gl/5F3ugk3S89oykDMQ8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
Another good and very cheap one https://maps.app.goo.gl/MTkA3WoYa1Kae7fn8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
Anyone here going to be in Tokyo 10/23-10/30?
Please keep me looped in on this!
Tentatively interested, available from the 14th through the 20th! Looks like they've got a few options for different price ranges, which were you thinking?
Right on! I usually get the special course, which I believe is around 20,000 yen maybe slightly more?
Would everyone need to order the same you think? I can't figure out the difference between the 14k and the 21k menu, I'm just guessing the amounts of truffle
Yeah definitely all the same.. the more expensive courses come with a couple more dishes. I wouldn't be against the 14k course if people prefer a little cheaper
I think I would prefer that, but if the step up in price gives you wagyu then that is probably worth it 😄
The whole meal is wagyu pretty much 😛
Is there anyone who will be in Osaka the 25-27th who would be interested in joining a guided food tour?
This one is highly rated and looks really promising https://www.viator.com/tours/Osaka/Deep-Osaka-Food-Tours/d333-130036P2
I am interested! I am solo traveling and was about to make a reservation, but they dont accept solo reservations
Sweet! yea sadly its not a solo type place. Sounds like around the 17th we can have a small group for it if that works for you too
Should we put the date in the Google Sheet so people can find it if they check later?
Oh bummer! Maybe ill go again around the end of my trip lmao
whats the google sheet?
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EJYYoTmg89LyyDmuzPkVjPy9ruNSSkvZc_9sDmrDhOI/edit?gid=0#gid=0
I think one the mods made this one. People can post when they are in Japan, and there's a sheet for potential meetups with dates
Oh cool yea sure why not!
I'd love to go but I'm in Tokyo Sep 29-Oct 4 if anyone wants to go early in the month
I’m interested
Anyone purchasing Ghibli Museum tix for 10/26-11/03 that would be able to snag me an extra one? Unfortunately I will be hiking a mountain the day that ticket sales open up for October and I most likely will not have service 🥲
Who jazzed up the google sheet? Love it
did I fuck it up because I kept fucking it up but hopefully undid all my fuckups 😂
no idea but it looks nicer haha
ooh I didn't see it before that haha
Ill be there oct 27- nov 5
Down to meet up with whoever to grab dinner or drinks. My ig is aubreezys
Mo 7, tue 8 we are in Kyoto Sushi making and Ninja Weapon making. Put it in the meetup incase someone wants to join 😊
You can make ninja weapons????? That’s amazing
Hi everyone. I'm not quite sure where the best place is to post my enquiry. But here goes.
Any other fellow one piece fans out there? So I'm planning to visit Kumamoto on the 21st of October to visit the one piece statues. I recently booked a tour with a guide only to realise the price I paid wasn't the final price.
So I was seeing if there were any other people out there interested in seeing the statues as the more people going we could split the costs.
Who is the best straw hat and why is it Nami?
I'll be in tokyo 12-14th (a bit of 15th too but flying that day so meh) if anyone wants to eat together, go to borderless together, or go to an arcade together I would love that!
also crossing my fingers to manage to get a ghibli museum ticket but that one...
Not just Ghibli, also Pokemon Cafe is hard to get oef.
that's ok I don't wanna go to that one 😌 hahah
But I do
I did, I wanted to be able to sort on which dates people where arriving so I could find out who overlap with me.
Didn't realize I was making changes for everyone however, I thought I was changing the view for just me 😅
Hopefully its helpful for someone else
I'm planning on doing Borderless Planets on the 14th, preferably morning/early afternoon as I've heard there's less of a crowd then.
Maybe we could meet up if we both get tickets?
sure we could do that! I haven't booked yet, was hoping someone else would want to go (figure a lot of the point is to take pics of yourself there which is harder alone 😂)
Was helpful for me!
I haven't booked yet either, I was thinking of doing it this weekend 🙂
Good point regarding the pictures, I didn't think of that.
I'm trying to finish booking my travel and lodging right now but will DM you when I get around to that. asap, cause I fly to italy sunday and I need to be done planning shit by then xD
Sounds good. I checked on Klook right now, and there are several open spots in the morning so it probably won't be sold of for a while.
I was thinking type 09.30 or 10, as I'm guessing I will still be quite jetlagged on the 14th (I arrive the 13th)
yeah I looked yesterday and it looked fairly chill. I wouldn't wanna do earlier anyway so that's fine by me 😂
(I can get up and get going early if I need to, but I am planning tokyo as a chiller destination in my trip loll)
Me too, I don't wanna be stuck in monday rush hour in the metro either 😄
it's a holiday, which wont erase rush hour I'm sure but might not make it so crazy
Tokyo 26-30 Sept
Takayama 30Sept-1 Oct
Kanazawa 1-3 Oct
Kyoto 3-6 Oct
Osaka 6-10 Oct
Tokyo 10-11 Oct
Narita 11-12 Oct
2 30yr old belgian friends. Very much there for the food and konbini culture. Would love to have a good night out once or twice aswell (catch the 6AM 🫠). Cheers!
Hey all ! I was interested to know if any of you have been on an intrepid tour of Japan ? I am going October 22 and want to know what to expect possibly meet others when I have free time !
thinking of going to akhiabara on the 12th if you're down
There’s a one piece shop in shibuya you should check out if you’re in the area!!
Yeah! I've been there before and plan to visit again, when I'm there.
@wraith igloo I'll be arriving to Tokyo again at 21:30 on the 18th, so I can't make it to dead or alive 😢
5th we are together in Kyoto and 9th in Osaka, maybe we can meetup then. Group of 4 Dutchies here.
I'm also in Kyoto for the 5th if you don't mind a Canadian
Ofcourse we wouldnt mind 😄
https://maps.app.goo.gl/XE8ncAU1QyuffG4Y8
I bought an extra seat for the Impeller Exploration course on Mon, Oct 07 at 15:00-16:50
If anyone wants to join, lemme know
(You gotta speak basic Japanese though!)
heya all, 34m from Singapore here, will be in Osaka 3-8 Oct.
planning to do a day trip to Nara on 4 Oct, anyone interested just drop me a msg!
what kinda temperatures/clothing are you guys packing/planning on? I read everything from "it'll be 0 in the morning here!" to "for sure it'll still be 30 degree" 😂 gonna pack the opposite of light
I think its supposed to be mid to low 20s still
mid to low 20s is the beeest weather, but not if there's a large amplitude over the course of the day 🤔
Its all t-shirt weather if you believe hard enough
Tshirt weather with some hoodies jic
I am very bad at handling cold 😂 will pass on that option hahah
Hey Ming, I'm interested but can't do the 4th . if plans change and you want to do it on the 5th. i could join you in nara.
20° C gonna be refreshing after have a +40° C summer
Likewise with @quasi egret . I arrive in Osaka on the 4th but would be down other days while I’m there 👍
We can do Nara or Kobe
I plan on visiting both so that’d be great
Oh actually 5th works for me too. I’ll share a few spots that I’ve bookmarked. Cc @weary prawn
This garden is free to enter. https://maps.app.goo.gl/YXm3S4fv91KKEqQB9?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
https://maps.app.goo.gl/MC2XMtcH8odNEnGh6?g_st=ic
Not sure if y’all r ok w vegetarian food. (I’m not vegetarian but saw this place on YouTube)
we could do nara on the 5th and kobe on the 6th or 7th? cc: @uncut pike
I have no clue but I plan on visiting either or both
Y’all have fun in Kobe. I’ll be in USJ 6 and 7 😀
Originally planning to go as two, now I’m going solo. See you guys in Tokyo from Oct. 14-18!
I'll be landing in Tokyo on the 19th as well! I'll be heading up to Nikko on the 25th so down for food anytime between 19 - 24th. Currently finishing off my list of restaurants and will be trying to reserve some of the higher end places soon.
I'm also reaching Tokyo on the 18th and then staying till 25th before heading to Osaka
@quasi egret nvm lemme try and plan out when I’m in Osaka. Might go to Kobe/nara on a later date
Heyy! I'm sharing my Japan itinerary here of the places I'll be exploring. Have removed restaurants and cafes for now to keep it concise. Let me know if anyone wants to get together for a meal or any of these activities. Happy to shuffle some things around within the same city 🙂
@sturdy portal glad to see you’re visiting Uji, it’s such a beautiful place!
Yea I wasn't going to miss the land of matcha 🍵 😝
Anyone ?
I mean I've been all over Japan
What questions did you have?
Thanks for the help MrT!! I was just curious if anyone has taken a tour with the travel group Intrepid !
I was hoping to meet people who had gone or are going so we could potentially look at some excursions or bar hopping or anything together
I personally find travel agencies/groups a waste of time and money. I will say that most people do not use one, so its unlikely you'll find many, if anyone, who has done it
Yikes ok thank you
The only reason I'd use a travel agency is if I wanted to do something extremely difficult to book for myself
Like a private geisha dinner
Well I have never been and am travelling solo and dont know the language so I figured it was better
But thank you for the input ☺️ maybe next trip I will plan myself once I feel more comfortable
That's pretty much the case for most people here.
Virtually no one here is fluent in Japanese and many don't speak virtually any Japanese
The best you can do is research what you want to do, where you want to go, when you want to go. Then set a budget and plan accordingly.
You're going to make mistakes. Just pick yourself up from them.
My first ever solo travel was to Tokyo 15 years ago, without internet, google translate or google maps, any almost zero knowledge about the language ... you don't need a travel agency if your only concern is the language
@fading laurel @iron prairie ok thanks again guys.
yeah i looked at travel groups and just thought they seemed very expensive. also very rigid. this is my fifrst time in japan and first solo trip but i wanted to be flexible and make decisions day of.
you can go online and get itineraries pretty easy if you don' twant to research.
a tip, you can have chatgpt translate for you on the fly. turn on the voice option and tell it to translate anything you say in english to japanese and anything you say in japanese to english then just hit the mic
The one I found was quite generous with time tables actually ! I have alot of free time to explore myself and have added many activities ! I just have a real problem directionally and having a group that travels together would take the stress off me
I'm in Tokyo 18th-22nd and happy to meet up on any of those days ☺️
I'll be interested in joining your Izakaya crawl on the 20th! I don't drink but curious about the different dishes and vibes
I will be in JP from the 6th to the 20th. First week in Tokyo, second idk yet
There is an Ave Mujica concert I would go to but I didn't decide on this trip early enough, and also raffles 💀

hey, if anyone gets the ghibli tickets tonight for a day between 12-16th October and you can add an extra ticket to your booking, I'll be your friend ;) I'm going to try as well, so if you're looking at the same dates, I can do the same. ideally I manage to book it myself, but... :p
out of curiosity, why use chatgpt over google translate?
You can talk to it and have the other person talk and it automatically talks back. Google replies via text then you have to hit the speaker to hear it. It’s just a smoother experience in my opinion
@languid sinew
i tried to get tickets to ghibli museum yesterday for october and i was 30,000th in queue 😭 😂
I was 16k in line, but the days I could go were already booked up by the time got in
Were you able to secure any?
yes, but just 1!
Aw man! wish i saw your message earlier
thats exciting tho! congrats!! the queue was crazy
I had already made my itinerary not expecting to get tickets, so it’s not a big loss for me. There’s plenty to see and do in Tokyo
I opened it on my phone as regular and incognito, computer chrome regular and incognito, edge regular and incognito, and I had a 3k, 5k, 7k, and the rest from 10-15k
guess ill have to find something else to do! what days are you guys going to be in Tokyo?
Mine were all 16k-34k 😦
I’m in Tokyo sept 30 to Oct 3, then back on the 11th/12th before I fly out
With stops in hakone, takayama, and Kyoto between
Ah! I'll be there late october
Is your itinerary pretty loose?
Been having trouble seeing if mine is too jam packed
You can see my rough itinerary here: #1277678773470367787
Thanks for sharing!!
I should be 11 evening to 16th, if I stick to going to Nikko as soon as I arrive from Seoul
We might swap some day’s itineraries around at each city depending on what we’re feeling
But I left like half of it to explore the general area we will be in
what route are you taking for hakone to takayama?
ok no magical superior option 😅 doing something similar (but staying longer and sleeping a night in Nagoya on the way)
A couple alternate day trips in Kyoto if we’re tired of shrines are to check out Osaka or go up to Lake Biwa for some nature sights and check out a super sento
Did I understand correctly that it's actually going to be cold in mid-october in tokyo? I also do not handle the cold well
I was informed it’d still be in the low-mid 20s
I think the prediction is hotter that usual weather for Sept and Oct? I was looking at the foliage forecast and its predicted to be later
I’m expecting 10-25C weather
So not cold, just potentially chilly
I’ll decide what clothes to pack the week before I leave
25 is nice for me. 10 would mess me up lol, especially if it's worse at night
bring some layers
sending you a DM!
same
hoodie weather is the best weather
Winter is far more preferable than summer in terms of weather for me in Japan
Its very easy to bundle up and wear more clothing. Plus when you're cold, you don't need to wash your clothes as often
Which means you can wear some clothes a bit longer
With summer, sweat will make your clothes reek and it becomes a major hassle
Plus with summer you just got to deal with it
You can put on more clothes for winter, but you can't exactly take off more clothes for summer
Sadly my body freezes up when it gets colder and makes it difficult for me to move. Early March in Tokyo was brutal for me. Miscalculated when I was planning this trip as I trusted the stuff I could find online about October temperatures, but it sounds like it will be a lot colder than those estimates
I'm the same, I'm ok with 10 but I'm with you that cold is not easier to deal with universally by any means
I am the same as MrT
So I too hope it's on the colder side
Also because I'll be hitting up a couple onsen spots lol
Figured I might as well post my schedule, always enjoy meeting new people! Down to explore, or just enjoy the nightlife.
Fukuoka: 6-10
Takamatsu: 10-12
Kobe: 12-15
Tokyo 15-20
Hakodate: 20-22
Sapporo: 22-26
Hi everyone 👋 , I(29M Canadian) will be travelling in japan from Sept 29-Oct12. 2nd time in Japan but first time travelling solo. Still planning my itinerary for Japan but down to meetup with people.
Sept 29-Chiba/Tokyo
Sept 30-Oct2 - Sendai/Morioka - gonna try my hand at the Wanko-soba challenge-(dm me if you also want to join the challenge👌 ). also gonna try hiking around Mt. zao
Oct2-5-Osaka/Kyoto
Oct6-Oct11-Tokyo - still deciding if i want to take a group tour to hike Mt.fuji(2 day trip) or hike at nearby mountains(1-day trip).
I’ll keep this in mind 🙂 I’m still trying to figure out what I wanna do this October. I wanna hike more fs and visit the kansai region soon
@pure loom hey I'll also be in Tokyo from 8-11
Looking to do a day trip to Kawaguchiko. Let me know if you're also planning something.
i’ll be in Tokyo from october 14-24!! hmuuuuu
++ Will be in Tokyo at the same time. Up for hiking day trips!
Cool, I’m gonna look up hiking day trips from Tokyo :))
@pure loom i thought once you hit oct mt fuji got more dangerous. Also a bunch of us are meeting in dontenbori (osaka) on the tail end of your time there. Check out the google sheet
Please don’t hike Mt. Fuji in October, it’s too dangerous
Hike a nearby peak and get a good view of it
Im doing the zipline thing in hakone to get a view
One restaurant I can always recommend if you want amazing sushi is Sushi Inomata
if you want food to eat, you can follow my list
Nagano and Okinawa grouped together? is one of those meant to be something else
I'm really interested in activities and our Tokyo time overlaps! if you wanna go do some arcade, batting cages, let me know!
also super into ziplines but inside Tokyo... xD
Sounds great I’m def up for arcades! Haha originally I was hyped to visit Okinawa but the risk of typhoons wasn’t worth it, so opted for Nagano instead
I knocked Okinawa off the list too 😅
I wanted to hike more in the Alps but it seemed difficult without a car, so I'm sticking to kamikochi
I’ll be coming up to Tokyo on October 13th - 1st of November (first time travel) if anyone wants to grab a drink
I will be going to some bouldering gyms wherever I'm at, at minimum I'll be in Tokyo the 6th thru the 12th. If anyone wants to join me let me know.
Anyone have any good hiking places around Osaka/Tokyo area? That they can recommend.
my friends recommended mount koya
Depends how serious you’re looking to hike. Mt. Takao is the easiest to get to and is a pleasant pretty gentle hike
@cursive ermine @distant crater Was being ambitious at first in trying to attempt to climb Mt.Fuji prior to learning about climbing season(which ended in Sept 10)😅 .
However it seems there were climb tours for off-season. I asked the guides from the tour since I was skeptical(since the Mt.fuji official website mention it was prohibited). This was their response:
still the tour is about 60Kyen+ with 2 days gone...
I might consider just hiking at the nearby area and allocate that budget to other stuff(more food🤤 !)
Yeah, you CAN do it, but its dangerous, and my understanding is they might call it off part way if it seems too bad too continue
So not really worth it
I’m down for joyopolis. Go kharting Restaurants. Bougie and budget. I’m staying in shinjuku starting oct 11
Does it make sense going to Hokkaido or Kyoto for a week in October or staying in Tokyo?
It depends what you want to do in either of these places
Hi all, I’ll be in Tokyo Oct 5- Oct 13, 26 Male from VA. Would be cool to grab some food or learn about the Japanese culture with other people 🙂
I'll be in Tokyo then, hip-hop club would be 🔥
Shibuya Circus should be on that list. Ce la Vi is bougie and not that fun, Atom and Warp have the worst crowds
Hello everyone! Me and the wife will be in Tokyo 1st to 6th October, 7th to 10th in Kyoto, 11th to 14th in Osaka. Would be great to meet anyone for a drink or some food. Or any must try things do let me know!
Can't believe October's just a few weeks out from now
shh shhhh I am not ready
Right, I still have gaps in the itinerary lmao
sleeping under a bridge team 🤝
Part of the fun is playing it by ear and exploring (cope)
The days I don’t have mapped out are a few tokyo ones, so in all honestly picking a spot and wandering makes for a solid afternoon
that's where the fun part begins 😂
I also can't believe October is almost here!! 🙂 so exciting
is this for cosplaying as a homeless person?? loll
something like that! the name is so funny to me
no better way to stumble upon japan's "hidden gems"
Last time I went the only "itinerary" I had was that I would be there for two weeks, and the first three days would be in Tokyo. Everything else was made up there
It is fun
I find the best method is a combination of itinerary prep and wandering/exploration
I'll usually pick the areas I'll want to go and route the areas in the most logical order for travel. After that I'll pick a few interesting attractions and places to check out for each area to fill at least 3-5 hours per day for a 10-12+ hour day. After that I'll wander in whatever manner I want.
I can understand people winging everything, but that works a lot better when everything is still really new for you.
I'm thinking of doing a Shinjuku bar tour on either the 14th or 15th, was thinking of doing this one: https://www.viator.com/tours/Tokyo/Tokyo-Local-Bar-Crawl/d334-383992P1
But if we manage to get a group together in this channel we wouldn't need to get a guide 😄
@quasi egret , maybe you would be interested in joining as well since you're staying in Shinjuku?
This is what I do outside of days I'm traveling between cities.
Great method tbh
Yup
winging it is more fun in theory than executio, especially for a major tourism destination where many things have to pre-booked
Yeah winging it sounds a lot of fun before you actually have to put it into practice
on the other hand having hour-by-hour schedules on each day is too much for me
and its a lot better when you haven't done almost anything
but when you've literally spent years in the country traveling, you need to come up with new things to do or you'll just end up repeating the same stuff half a dozen times
That's absurd and I don't like it
Probably the only time I'll beholden myself to a schedule is when I need to make a train/bus
Like if I need to make a train by 1 PM or the next one isn't till like 2:30
then I'll quicken my itinerary
I find it crazyyyy! Like yes when there are specific goals indeed like trains that don't come often or needing to arrive early or whatever
The whole winging thing also doesn't work nearly as well outside of a massive major city like Tokyo or Osaka
but I'm not penciling in "one hour for tokyo tower, 1.5hrs for window shopping in akihabara, 30 minutes for walking through this covered shopping street" or w.e
That's why I usually build an itinerary that should only take 3-5 hours for a 10-14 hour day
Then I have tons of wiggle room to explore and wander as well as accounting for eating, afternoon tea, breaks, and transportation
I just wish I could be hungry more often
then my whole day every day would be eat
my master plan was to pick out things to do/see in a given area and spread them across the days allotted to reach a result like this. but I don't even feel like researching attractions right now lmao
Sounds cool. Is it in the google sheet?
I want to look at it when I’m at a computer
Yeah, I think I put the rough outline in the Sheet. I'm not at a computer myself today, so can't double check
Honestly I just use japan-guide like 80% of the time
and then I take a few reccs from people here
That's primarily because I'm going to way off the beaten path locations sometimes that no one here ever goes
anyone interested in going to this https://curryfes.com/?
maybe on 14th or 16th?
is that a festival of curry
Hi everyone! I (34M) am from Kagawa. It’s not a popular destination for tourists, but if you’re interested in nature trips (especially fishing trips) in Shikoku or the surrounding islands, DM me. Autumn is great for fishing in this area 🎣🐟 (I lived abroad before, so I speak English fluently)
because if so honestly yes 😂
That is exactly what it is lol
About what time is sunset in mid-october? I'm getting conflicting information trying to find that online
Says 5:04 pm
Yes, curry town Shimokitazawa shows what it can do
Even shops that don’t usually serve curry start serving curry
Def disagree, ce la vi can be* fun and atom is definitely fun
I've only been to Warp once and it seemed more EDM and electronic sort of thing, I heard Atom was more hip hop based only on friends going though
@cursive ermine knows best on that stuff
Yes and I will continue steering people away from Atom and Warp towards good parties
are you getting conflicting info because you're looking for different places in Japan, maybe? it's big and all one timezone
I searched for Tokyo @fallen crypt
it was very EDM/dance but yea could of been the night or the DJ, there's a few live jazz places I've been wanting to check out!
that sounds awesome. i'm up for going. for sure. there's also a ramen fest during the last part of the month
Curry Festival sounds lit
Hey Yall, I saw something i thought would be helpful in the september google sheet so i added it to the october sheet.
A calendar view of the month with the city everyone plans to be on a particular day. makes it easy to see who might be in the same city as you on a particular date.
Check it out. and fill in your dates if you feel inclined
Your subjective opinion on "good parties" is that, subjective. I'd rather go to any of those clubs then almost anything you promote constantly.
I mean. I guess if you want to be the creep trying to constantly trying to sleep with girls, I can understand your mentality. I think it’s extremely creepy to head to a club that charges men and women differently because their whole goal is to get women in cheap so that the men follow them trying to get laid
totally
If that’s your goal, then it’s best you head to those places instead
shh shh each to their own
As someone who’s been to an event @cursive ermine has promoted (NYE), they have great recommendations
"Monogatari" x "Steins Gate" OFFICIAL COLLAB ANNOUNCED!
Start in October 2024
collab cafe
Hello, I'll be in Tokyo from Oct 9th - Nov 9th. It'll be my 2nd in Japan and my 1st time traveling solo. Happy to meet up for hiking, shopping, coffee, restaurants, bars, arcades, etc. I'm getting a lot of good ideas from this thread, so appreciate you all
In Tokyo from 2nd to 12th of October if anyone would like to meet up, I am 22M and from New Zealand :).
Great idea. I've added mine 🙂
Would be in Tokyo from 29th October to 3rd November ...if anyone would like to meet up and move around please let me know....M 44 India
still interested in going to the volleyball? Tickets are releasing tomorrow for one of the matches
Hey - I'm also a bit of a coffee afficionado with a very long list of Tokyo-area spots to see. Second time visiting as well - let's link up?
i also love coffee - please let me know if you guys end up findng any great options
i added this to the potential meetup section of the google sheet
Glitch Coffee is great
Amen. Probably one of the best coffee spots I’ve been to
Aoi Coffee is bomb
Fulgen
Camelback in Shibuya has the best egg sando, and Cream of the Crop in Kouto is just a great cup of coffee
i’ll be down!!!
we can def hang out!!
Sounds good to me 🙂
thats great lets see if there are interests
If anyone wants to meet at glitch or aoi I’m down
We have almost Identical Itinerary dates included. Just slight difference in order for Osaka/Kyoto
Visiting with my gf and a friend of hers
Might see if there's anything on your itinerary we might want to add
This looks dope as an event, I just wish I was into curry more. After one serving I'm tapped out on that flavor.
I definitely over-researched for my last trip in April. I made a map of all the noteworthy coffee shops (including 3rd wave and old school kissaten) I could find (along with other layers for places Anthony Bourdain went, spots from Atlas Obscura and the show Samurai Gourmet, and more). Feel free to use as a reference if you wish 🙂 https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1_l1WUGCq1x9t6PfdpKJLDCGpa7VU7OE&usp=sharing
Very obvious I overindexed on food lol. If anyone has suggestions for non-food activities that aren't things that need to be booked in advance I'd love to hear them.
hikes!
unfortunately I don't think we can fit it into our itinerary
This is sick. Definitely going to check out a lot of these spots. Love all the Bourdain spots too. Thanks mate!
Sendai was pretty meh but I enjoyed morioka. Definitely azumaya honten is one of the best soba restaurants I have had. If you have time, try to visit jodogohama beach by miyako. Scenic beach
I’d be down to meet up! I’m there from October 13th until 2nd of November
was Sendai worth doing a day trip from Tokyo? Mainly want to go there to get gyutan!
thank you for sharing. any major standouts that you want to go back to or would say are must visits?
No. Matsushima bay is overrated and the only thing I enjoyed over there was their zunda shake from Sendai station. Everything can be experienced at other major Japanese cities
Gyutan reminds me of preserved duck meat..nothing special about it
Ahhhh good to note! Gyutan is pretty good in the states so was hoping it would be even better over there. I'll consider that for my itinerary, thanks for the input!
I really want to go back to Gonokami tsukemen. I dream of their shrimp pesto bowl often
Does anyone have any reco's for nightlife for someone in their 30s? in osaka and tokyo. i'm thinking rooftop lounges, maybe places to drink with entertainment but not like super packed bars. or typical nightclubs but still good for meeting people as i will be solo on most of my trip. I plan to hit a a few nightclubs and bars but i need some chiller nightlife, cause i can't go hard for a month straight.
I really like sake, i'm not sure if they have social sake bars but that would be up my alley.
does anyone wanna get teamlabs borderless tickets together on the 12th, 14th,15th or 16th? (I think someone mentioned but I lost you 😅) It seems like a nice place to have someone else to take pics of you
When in doubt you can sumimasen someone lol
oh for sure but if anyone's also solo, might be a win win
interested. what time of day are you thinking?
ehh whenever honestly? I dunno if there's a specific advice on when it's best to go, but barring that, I have no issues
well everything i read says it gets very busy and you either want to be early or go when its an hour from closing
i'll look at the dates tonight and get back to ya
hmm, the 9am tickets are sold out on all the days
but there's 10am
tbh I'm not too stressed about it being busy, I figure it's part of the expectation 😂 but I feel like I'd rather early (or later, but not at the last possible time, just in case I wanna spend more than an hour around it, you know?). let me know what you're thinking, anyway
sounds good, feel free to ping me if i don't get back to you within a day if you want.
what part of tokyo are you staying in?
akasaka, most likely (I have two bookings :P )
i’m down for that
we could get a group going :)
so far interested in mid-oct borderless: @quasi egret @wheat bear @sharp tide ✔ (sorry for the ping just trying to keep track so I don't have to scroll through the chat in 2 days when I get back to this 😂)
Yes please keep me in the loop 😁
i’m down for the 14th as well
only small downside of 14th is that it's a holiday in japan so a little more expensive and maybe more crowds, but let's be real, that place is prob. packed with foreign tourists anyway so shouldn't make a huge diff
what’s the holiday?
is being based out of osaka for 5 days too long?
No
No recs yet but i’m definitely interested in finding spots like that as someone also solo traveling to Tokyo and Osaka in their 30s. i’ll try to see if i can find any
I know for teamlabs planets i was told to go as early as possible (apparently for hygienic reasons)
dunno if its the same for borderless
I presume that's because you're walking through the water rooms and stuff. apparently there's disinfectant or something in the water, so I don't think hygiene would be an issue
yeah, it was people who had gone previously that had warned me, im sure disinfectant is there, but its still largely the same water throughout the day
so it'll still get dirty from feet and such
Maybe put it in the gooogle sheet. I’m out right now or I would
Hi all, I'm new here and I will also be in Tokyo next month from 9th to 20th
and would like to meet some new friends
Edit: 30M, Malaysia
did anyone else book for shibuya sky?
In Tokyo, I went to Aoyama Grand Hotel rooftop bar and Two Rooms Grill, both this sort of style, nice lounge, I wanted to check out some jazz bars and places with similar styles, not found one in Osaka yet
understandable oh man ew...
nah not the same there, planets was noticable...
done! I was out as well (asleep that is :P )
Hey guys, Kevin 30M, from the US. Heading back to Japan on Oct 11th until Nov 24th. Ended up making plans with 2 groups a few weeks apart from each other so I'll be solo for about 3 weeks in the middle of this trip.
I am open to most activities and meet ups. I had a great time earlier this year (June-Aug) and met up often with other members. My itinerary is rather flexible, especially 10/20 - 11/10, inbetween my groups.
- Tokyo 10/12 - 11/1
- Fukuoka 11/1 - 11/5
- Osaka 11/5 - 11/7
- Nagoya 11/7 - 11/10
- back to Tokyo 11/10 - 11/13
- Osaka 11/13 - 11/18
- Kyoto 11/18 - 11/20
- Tokyo 11/20 - 11/24
Hi see the pins to find the spreadsheet with everyone else's dates
Not yet but i would like to
I’ve booked before and am booking for this trip in a few days
I think we were talking a few days ago about booking the morning the 14th, but we never got so far. I totally forgot to do so when the weekend came 😅 I'm still interested, but now the morning sessions are already booked. Maybe we could try in afternoon, like 16.00? Now that we're a small group potentially going we could meet up before if anyone is down?
I'm interested in Shibuya Sky as well, maybe on the evening the 16th?
I'm trying to get a group together for bar hopping/karaoke that day as well if anyone's interested
Unfortunately I’ll probably be pretty dead at that time 😦
That’s day after I arrive
Oof, yeah that day can probably be pretty rough. What day did you have in mind?
I'm leaving Tokyo in the morning the 18th, so the 17th is my last chance
I don't know if you're a fan of the Abroad in Japan youtube-channel, but the host have opened a bar in Shibuya I thinking of checking out. I'm in my 30s as well, and this place looked right down my alley as an solo tourist in Japan.
https://g.co/kgs/16kZSuY
I was planning the 29th lol
Or the 30th
Greetings all! I (37M from USA) will be visiting Oct 17 - Nov 2. Always open to meeting folks; I'll check the meetup list in the spreadsheet and I also added my itinerary to the spreadsheet.
For me 14,15, or 16th are ideal. I prefer morning or end of day if those are possible
Hello all! I’m Sunny (29F) from California and will be visiting Oct 14-23, haven’t reserved much yet so I’d be down to meet up with peeps, first time traveler so open to new experiences!
Welcome. There’s a pinned link to a spreadsheet where a lot of people put their dates and activities they’re interested in to do possible meetups. Check it out.
I’m also from California. So cal to be exact
Hello fellow Californians
also hello from california
This sounds cool. I’m up for checking it out.
I have booked this Shibuya Food tour 5-7PM on the 16th. I'm planning on heading to the bars afterwards, including Lost.
We could meet up there? Or you can join the food tour if you want, I've put it in the Sheet
https://www.viator.com/tours/Tokyo/Night-course-Sibuya-City-and-Food-tour/d334-100234P9
I was hoping that it would be Karaoke night the 16th as well. msnkiller and some others have a tentative date
@solemn violet : Would you be interested in a bar hop in Shibuya on the 16th, I see you've mentioned that in the Google Sheet?
interested! lmk when everyone decides a rough time? : )
Yeah, will try. I find it a bit hard to keep track of everything going on in this channel, so it's a bit hard to nail down a firm plan 😄
traveling with @solemn violet and one more
i guess a general time frame so everyone can just join whenever? we'll most likely be bar hopping most of the nights anyway.
hmm you're right, unfortunate. I guess the question now is would everyone rather try to go together, at a "less good" time, or split up so those who can go early on another day do so?
just saw this, btw i've been trying for the shibuya sky ticket during sunset hours, its been soooo painful and difficult to get. not sure if any other hour is even worth going.
book it 1-2 hours before sunset
lol tickets are gone within 1min or two... the only ones left are starting 2pm ...
really not looking to sit there for 3hrs just waiting for sunset. : (
that’s trueeee
Shibuya Sky isn't a must for me, I might just do the Observatory at the Government building if I can get tickets there
Yeah, if we all do sometime in the afternoon then we could meet up either before or after if the hours align. I'll book for 16.00 at least, so I don't forget again
I've booked it through kkday tickets seems to not go as fast on there as others even though the app did bug out
For Shibuya Sky or for Borderless?
You don't need tickets for government building, its free.
Nice, I didn't know that 🙂 Does that mean you can't book a slot either then, just show up and stand in line?
Yep no reserving unless that was changed
11am eastern is the time to book sunset through webket
Usually a 15-20 min delay through klook
If you want perfect timing, webket is the way but some foreign cards are problematic
yeah i noticed the klook delay being inconsistent too... i should of been more patient and just keep refreshing. been trying for the past 2 days for a 4pm slot, but no luck.
Shibuya Sky
try kkday there was pretty much no delay for me
i did, kkday didnt even have the 4pm slot at 8pst.
=/
i'll just keep trying for the week, if no luck then its fine too. not the end of the world.
I can try for webket for you tomorrow morning if you like
My card should work on it
ahhh thank you! i'll give it another try tm morning before i come crawling back asking for help ...
I'm gonna pass on the food tour as that's not my thing, but i would totally meet you guys before at an izakaya if that's the type of place you are going to be ?
yeah i heard this is a great alternative to shibuya sky. Btw. i bookmarked a few things that are near boarderless. could be good meetup spot or place to go after
check these out:
https://www.instagram.com/p/C_VdxaiSDgR/
this place is a temple but like a cult? anyways you don't join just check it out. unless you want to join a cult i guess 🤷♂️
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Reiyukai+Shakaden+Temple/@35.661137,139.742203,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x60188b99d8a0f867:0xb814da133840c4ea!8m2!3d35.661137!4d139.742203!16s%2Fg%2F1v3grx3k?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
also tokyo tower nearby and has an observation deck https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3009.html
Sent you a DM, let's talk later and see if we can coordinate? I'll have to log off for the night now 😴
It’s booked up until 7 rn, my bank was being stupid so I missed the sunset window
The metropolitan building in shinjuku has a great indoor viewing spot. Shibuya sky is the only outdoor one nearby if I’m not mistaken, if that’s something that matters to you guys
Heeey fellow Oct travelers! Just peeking in here for some potential meetups. Hows the weather in Tokyo mid Oct?
I'd need to convert that freedom units lol, but that sounds cooler than where I am
hey late reply back, but you still up for this?
also would like an update on this too!
Oh for that one i didnt have anything specific in mind, figured we'd all just meet up in the area and play it by ear
ahh okay
If you got a place in mind let me know
Fair haha
i guess we can just start off by meeting up and see where the day takes us haha
My thoughts exactly. Im planning my trip more in earnest this week, so maybe ill look into some places we all should try
LMAO I AM TOO
honest to god, i just started really planning on monday
i was gonna go based on my friends itinerary, but i never looked at it until now.
i leave next friday 😬
When you have an itinerary together, you can make a thread in #planning-and-itineraries to get feedback
I booked the hotels then earmarked some places on google maps, then said im all set...
Buuuut i should plan a bit better lol
yea I booked my hotels and bought my ticket. Had all year to learn Japanese and plan.
and I’ve just been procrastinating until now
next time though
Lmao i’m kinda relieved to see i’m not the only one who put off planning, i’m going to Japan in two weeks and am still kinda procrastinating even now haha
Planning 1-2 days before flying? What insanity lol
what a chad
Honestly I might just yolo my entire trip and make the whole thing a game time decision lol
I planned a 3 month trip in 3 weeks
So don’t worry you’ll be okay
I leave next Friday too 😦
And my itinerary is far crazier than most people
Yes. Dm me and we can sort it out.
2 weeks in Kyushu
A week in Shikoku
Several weeks in Kanto region
Several days in Hokkaido
A month in the tohoku region
10 ryokans across 7 different onsen towns across 3 islands
And about like 30-40 cities
While also doing 30-50 music shows and concerts
And flying to Korea for good measure
Lots of new areas to explore
But my trip is also like 80-90 days
And I’m a seasoned traveler
So I’m going to cover a lot more ground than normal tourists
Damn that does make me feel better lol. Your trip sounds epic though!
I did like 80 days for winter this year
And I did all 4 major islands
My foodie map

If I have a spot saved
I’ve been to that area
Minus the Okinawa one
ooh ty for sharing that, i'm definitely bookmarking
Going to have to cancel my vacation for the time being due to family illness maybe another month
i will utilize this. thanks
wtf you've added 200 spots since I last opened it LMAO
More options for you!
I've stolen the first 730 and added them to my lists lmao
(which currently have somewhere around 2000 entries now)
@fading laurel what would be a MUST try place in tokyo?
Must try place?
They have amazing shaved ice and milk
Its also in Sugamo which is an area that most tourists don't seem to check out despite its interesting qualities
this link is broken for me
I assume you mean Atelier Sekka?
Yeah that's it
thank you
I had that marked as well lmao
Wanted to try Kakigori and planned on heading to Sugamo with mom cause she's old
:p
PSA if you don't already know about Tabelog, it's the "japanese yelp" and way better to find places to eat than google.
Is there an app tourists can use for this? I think the native app is Japan only
I just use the browser version
Also if you know the name of somewhere just put "name tabelog" and itll be the top result probably so you can check the rating
3.5+ is going to be good, 3.7+ will be REALLY good, and 4+ is insane (probably need a reservation)
I'm going to Hokkaido on a solo trip from 10/22 to 10/29. My main purpose is to see autumn leaves in and around sapporo. Would love to meetup with anyone traveling around the same time!
Also I don't have driving license, so if anyone is planning to drive around Sapporo, I'd love to join and share the cost. I speak descent Japanese.
It's my first time posting in this discord server. If it's not the right channel for this kind post, I'd be glad if you could tell me where can I post this.
I’ll be in Sapporo from the 23-26! First time visiting Hokkaido
I did that last year and it was great. On AirBnB we booked all our places 1-2 days before we showed up and got some amazing deals for places that had vacancies
Is anyone gonna be in Osaka 24-31 Oct this year?
Gonna be in Tokyo from 16th (evening) to 19th october. Any meetup plans?
Gonna be in Osaka Halloween week from the 29th till November 2nd
Wanna see Halloween nights at USJ
I'll be in Osaka the 22-25, leaving the morning if the 25th. Able to meet up the 24th
Ooh USJ sounds fun for Halloween. For the longest time I thought Shibuya was the Halloween spot but that's a no-no now, right?
this list is crazy, have you been to all of these places?
Was in shibuya last year for Halloween. You can still go to places in it, but there's no more big congregations there. Place is on lockdown outside shibuya station.
Hey Killa, how about on the 5th for this? cc: @weary prawn
5th seemed to be the most popular date yeah, so im good with that
Could do more than 1 day too, depends on how it goes
man people talk about australia wanting to kill you but I just found out october is apparently scary giant hornet breeding season in japan
what a gift
cool, might be good for us to create a group dm (when we get closer to the date) for just this night to keep everyone on the same page without gettnig lost in this general october thread.
Sounds like a plan
If anyone wants to join sheeto and I for a Nara day trip to bow at some deer on the 5th let us know. would be cool to go in a group of 4 or so.
I'll be in Osaka the 25-27 as the last leg of my journey.
Would be down to check out Dotonbori by night or something like that one of those days 🙂
I was planning a nara trip "sometime" while in kyoto/osaka, so i could tag along
oh shoot i forgot that was a thing!! I kinda wanna do that now haha
cool!! Let's see if we can make something work
Except for like 10-20 spots I put in for this trip. Yes
hm
I was gonna say MrT eats youtube channel when
but when those two words are put together it really does not work
that's wild
Sounds good, i was thinking of keeping it to 3-4 people as trying to coordinate a big group could be a headache
Yeah, its not like nara has lots to branch off to either, so you'd spend a lot of time keeping people together lol
More a field trip than a fun outing
i'll createa. group dm for the nara trip
My primary focus in Osaka will be traditional Japanese & modern cocktail bars + all kinds of restaurants.
Interested in a half-day of Minoh Falls if the fall foliage is coming in. Otherwise Shinsekai, Dotonbori, Osaka Castle all places I'm gonna check out.
I was gonna do the Minoh falls as well if the foliage has come in that end + those other attractions. Don't really know any of the cocktail bars over there but I'm always down to try some modern takes on drinks fs
Great! Have you thought about itinerary yet? Also are you planning to use public transport or driving?
Cool. We can play it by ear, but I'm good for some kind of outing on the 24th.
I’m (23M) around Tokyo/Yokohama from now until the end of November and just looking for friends to hangout with (dinner, izakaya, karaoke, whatever’s good!) and i’m especially looking for friends to go night clubbing with! nice to meet you all
I'll be in Yokohoma my first week from Oct 17th+ 🙂
If you guys are up for something on the 25th or 26th in Osaka as well I'd be happy to join 😊
Probably going to stick to public transport
I know there’s a whole thread on esims, but I’m curious about what everyone here’s going with? I’m debating between Ubigi and airalo
Ubigi
Ubigi has been great for me for many years
Ubigi is the one I’ve used world wide
no issues with airalo and discounts codes floating around
Ubigi worked amazingly for me on my last visit, even up in Hakone where I expected the mountains to interfere or see coverage drop off. I will be using them again next month for sure.
You’re all awesome!! With so many options out there it’s nice hearing real personal experiences
If anyone has a discount code I’m happy to use it (I figure you also get discounts or something)
It looks like Ubigi does do something like that. 20% off for you, 50% off for me - NY8CA8XJ
Huge I’ll be buying mine sometime after the 26th, I’ll be sure to use yours
Thanks, I appreciate it 🙂 Good timing for both of us
Absolutely, I’m glad I asked when I did lol. And thanks again for sharing your experience with it
#1092103190671012000

I am! But I'm planning to just walk around on my own and it's still mostly loosely planned
I'm probably going there 14-15 or 15-16th though, will be doing Hakone and Fujikawaguchiko together
I kinda followed the japan guide day trip video to hakone but made it an overnight stay at an onsen and it was really nice and hits a lot of the main things to do
Same here I don’t have a specific schedule confirmed yet, just some cool places I wanted to check out. I’m most likely going on 10th and 11th, trying to avoid the weekend crowds if possible
I purposely avoided the weekend crowds too 😂
and the lodging is much more expensive on weekends
I was actually considering driving there from Tokyo since I have luggages to drag around, but driving solo is quite expensive
Though that will allow much more freedom, I might still consider that if someone wishes to join 😅
I’m planning to head to Hakone direct from Shinjuku, still tbc
Oo, via train?
That's where most people depart for Hakone
Exactly, I opted for Fuji instead 😂
I will be in Hakone area enjoying onsen 10/9-10/11! If the timing is opportune, I would be down to explore together as well
Personally im getting the local transit pass to use their zip tram + boat to get a nice view if mt fuji. Aside from that its going to a bunch if different onsen, some light hiking, and (weather permitted) going to the top of the local mountain https://maps.app.goo.gl/z1veAgDZaVRUz1Nu7
Via ropeway since i dont feel like climbing a mountain lol
https://youtu.be/sQAa7zMFJKE?si=a01tqsaYExOe7euw
Mostly the lake area, the volcano, and using an onsen are the can’t miss things I’d say.

01:38 Going to Hakon...
Is anyone apart from me bothering to go to Kamikochi lol
meee
When? I’m planning on 22nd Oct as that’s the day where it’s supposed to be peak foliage
Committing to the trek from Nagano lol
It won’t be. The 22nd is the ‘start’ of peak
oh sweet
Literally the first day
The 18th won’t be so it’ll be emptied I think
I was supposed to go then actually lol but I decided to rejig the plans
How u getting there?
this is my little kamikochi area loop
Nice
Classic loop
Well end up in Osaka around the same time haha
I’m just stopping off at nagano for the monkeys
I'm taking shink from tokyo to nagoya, then local whatever to magome and from tsumago to matsumoto, bus from matsumoto to kamikochi, staying in the onsen area nearby, then takayama
all trains
I'm still not decided if I'm sticking to the river walk or yakedake
guess I'll decide based on energy level lol
I’m going yo nagano doing monkey park then Matsumoto castle + kamikochi for afternoon back to nagano then to Kanazawa before Osaka
uhhh
are you sure you can do all that on one day?
kamikochi has to be entered by bus and the last ones don'ty leave very late
Matsumoto and kamikochi?
It’s a bit of a chaotic situation. To do both there’s a tour that does it
That or I’ll do the bus in which case I’ll cut out Matsumoto
kamikochi feels like more of a morning thing
Cause if I’m correct…the busses are 8AM from nagano and leave at 2
Ye I’ve heard it’s either in the morning or like 1Pm
Have you done it before?
Oh that’s sick
I’m a huge water sports fan but as I’m soloing I didn’t want to commit this time
Hahaha
and shimanami, and hiking up miyajima. this time it's all hikes, because it's too late in the year for water sports I think
I was solo as well!
I was trying to wedge in rafting in kyushu, but it really is an island best done by car sadly
so I'm gonna stick to hikes
:O
well, my timing is pretty inflexible though unfortunately
😂😂
I can re-share my tentative schedule if anything sounds fun to join in on
Sure sure
You know what’s wild
Before I changed my plan for 17-20
I was supposed to stay in the same place
😂😂
Nope
Okay well chatsu (autocorrect here)
I was doing on same day
From Osaka
lol
So there’s that
I'm attempting to save and splurge on the loding so that it rounds out to something near 50-60 a night all put together
err
lodging
loding is what I do all the time I suppose
Haha
Well if u wanna do that hike from Osaka I can join in on that
I had it down anyway
For that date
sorry which one?
oooh
yeah that is NOT a day hike lol it's the start of the kumano kodo
I mean it is a one day hike but from tanabe
it's a hefty day from what I understand
but I'm open to company on the hike haha, you probably would have to plan for the bus i nthe evening though-- I struggled to find any lodging there at all
(hence it being one of my most expensive nights)
french!
Ah haha funny I’m taking that exact route just 2 weeks later (going back to visit close friends there)
Why I asked
Ok well I’ll DM you if the plan ends up working out 🙂
sure! don't hesitate. those days are pretty fixed by now due to scheduling. if you are tempted to do the full thing, there's still some openings in some places, you have to book on here https://www.kumano-travel.com/en but the website can be used properly only during japanese daytime
I have only seen positive comments about people who do it so if you like hiking probably worth it!
Damn you know how to plan a trip 0_0
the planning will cause me endless stress no matter what. and sitting around doing nothing will cause me unhappiness. this means I can either plan ahead and be mad stressed NOW but enjoy later, or plan during trip and be mad stressed during trip
or sit around and be bored
lol
Meanwhile
I’m leaving in like less tu an 2 weeks
And haven’t planned 3 weeks still
I mean I wish I were the casual type, for sure, but I know I wouldn't be happy so
gotta accept yourself as you are xD
I’m just not
In merely a procrastinator
I mean you’re talking to someone who lived in Paris for 2 years and didn’t have accommodation until the day before
😭😭
lolll
I like to be somewhere in between but your itinerary is seriously impressive
Im 3 days out and my plan is vague "go here for 3 hours" sections, i then have pins on a map of nearby places to check out... have about a 3rd if the trip planned out lol
Making plans is hard
it isssss
Best kinda planning tbh
Having a vague idea
Without day trips
Cause like realistically
It ain’t happening
When you say point A - B - B1 - B2
Is that even relaxing?
my plans for all their complexity invovle none of that
my 4ish days in tokyo are basically just "eat and shop" XD
That’s me in South Korea.
I need to decide where to eat
‘Day 3-6. SHOP’
Luckily i checked the areas i booked hotels and man past me made some good calls, so much around me in osaka and kyoto
I was going to have more unplanned days in SK but I saw pics of seoraksan and I had to shove it in the schedule
and then I saw pics of Cimer spa and also had to
Hahahaha
Same!
Anyone else planning on taking the Shinkansen on the 14th? It’s a holiday and I’m not sure how far in advance to book (if I even need to) Planning on going from Osaka-Kanazawa
Booking online is a pain with JR west, so I’m just going to buy tix when I find time at a station
I doubt a ton of people will be going that direction on the final day of the 3 day weekend, no? like, if anything it'd be the opposite
Kinda what I was hoping too, I figured the big cities would be bustling but Kanazawa way not so much lol
14,400 per id guess
I'm too picky for it, but I hope you find a food partner
@cursive ermine How would you rate the karaoke places around Ginza?
I haven’t been so I can’t say for sure. But I bet they’re nicer than central Shibuya or Shinjuku
if no one has preferences and Shibuya ones tend to be bad might as well pick one closer to where im staying anyway lol
fair enough
@vapid relic @scenic sail @queen dock @pale cobalt @keen cedar @bright flower @brittle gulch How we feel about Karaoke in Ginza on the 6th? https://maps.app.goo.gl/pwjr7MpFvvxPuwe37
Suggestions still welcome, but if nothing else comes this should be fine
Works for me!
was going to book a klook tour but can't decide whether it'd be better to rent a bicycle and go around the lake instead, maybe find some low-key spots as well
Looks good! But generally happy with anything you choose 🙂
Anyone around Kabukicho tonight for drinks?
That place does look really cool 😍 lmk if you get reservations on the go
Does anyone know of any good speak easys in tokyo?
I know that @tepid oyster and I were talking about visiting this place, but I think we were discussing the 16th.
As a massive foodie, can vouch yoroniku is one of the best meals in Tokyo. Someone should go with @drowsy ocean
Can we change to 17th? I’m thinking of being in Kanazawa area 14-17
I was originally planning on being in Shibuya the 16th and Roppongi/Shinjuku on the 17th, but that could probably be switched around.
@kaboomer2.0 , would you be interested in going to Yoroniku after we've been to Azabudai on the 17th?
Sounds great!
Just a little train away, you don’t gotta go to another city 😂
True, but I don't want to make the mistake of spending all night on the subway, my home city is tiny compared to Tokyo 😄
Or maybe is just way bigger in my head
No more than 20-30 minutes from any of those places
You can drive through all of Oslo in 30 minutes I reckon, so in my mind that's quite the trip 😂
It's not really comparable tho haha
District -> district transportation is really efficient, so there's nothing to worry about
Lmao I guess it depends how tight you plan your itinerary! Take a taxi and it’ll be under 15 minutes
I'm interested if the offer is still up! 🙋
what areas are you thinking of visiting ? Maybe it'd make sense for the group tour if you want to go to further areas where you can go by bus directly
Yeah, no worries I'm being a bit facetious 😄
I try to keep my schedule relatively flexible, if I make reservations for things I try to make sure they are free to cancel so I can move things around
I will take one seat please 🙏
However, I'll only be in Tokyo starting from the 9th Oct, we can arrange a date
But yeah, I'm down on the 17th as well, hopefully kaboomer is as well.
We were talking about heading to Shibuya or Shinkuju after visiting Abazuda Hills that day anyway.
weird that didn't tag me but i just opened the server and saw my name. iwhat is yoroniku? is this a lunch time thing? i'll try to catch up in a moment.
Wagyu dinner omakase
Here's a great thread that was just posted for people looking for nighttime activities that aren't just bars and clubs. I'll be doing some of these for sure.
@gritty wind @tepid oyster @quasi egret : I made this channel where we can coordinate if we should go to Yoroniku together 🙂
If anyone else in the channel wanna join let me know!
https://discord.com/channels/440956791426383882/1287134284460724345
@wraith igloo : If I remember correctly you might be interested in this too 🙌
Is anyone interested in going to Daikoku PA for carspotting on 11 October?
The 17th is open, thanks for the ping! I'm in 🤤
Going by the meetup calendar - you up for karaoke afterwards?
Yeah, I'm in
I can't be too late however, as I'm going to Hakone the morning after. But as long as I can get out of bed and onto the train I should be good 😄
Id be interested in joining on the 17th! If theres spots left lmk
Hey, I’m interested. What’s the plan for getting there n back?
We don't even know if we get a table yet, it's not the biggest restaurant and they are quite popular. But check in the thread I made and we'll see if we can make a reservation.
I'd be interested in going to Daikoku PA later in the month. like around the 25h. if anyone wants to go then
Possibly going the week before? Also what’s the plan of transportation?
what date? like the 18th i probably could. transpo either rent a car or take a taxi
I can do the 18th the 25, or the 26th
Would you be able to drive? If getting rental?
I will have my intl drivers licesnse so i don't see why not. I'm thinking take the train to yoko in the day and do some sight seeing then go to the PA in the evening. maybe after dinner
if people wanted to split with me we could rent a gtr or something too
Ah ok… I have the license too but never driven on the opposite side so a bit worried.
And yeah taxi don’t exactly go there, they’ll drop you off n leave. And you wont be able to get uber… as its middle of no where. 🥲
I've never driven on the opposite side either, but i'm good if i got like a half hour to kind of prepare myself not during rush hour during the day
ah ok... good to know.
we could also rent a Kei car for fun
this is about 150ish per person for r35? i think?
I’m good just renting a cheap car
i'll get back to you on that. i did look into this rental thing a bit, so basically thinking about keeping the car over night parking could be an issue since everyone is staying in tokyo. and you have to keep it over night cuz the meets go till about midnight n what not.
Maybe pickup in Yokohama and drop off in Tokyo next day ?
right but the car needs to park somewhere until drop off. and i dont think they let you drop it off at say 2am? i could be wrong.
and parking in tokyo is like 5 dollar per 15min type of deal.... at least thats how much it was in ginza a couple of years ago. 💀
I did a quick google search and it looks like there’s some 24 hour car rental places you can pick up or drop off anytime.
I’m not on a computer but I’ll look more later. Maybe we can pickup and drop off nearby
ok, i'll look into it a bit.
Thinking of renting a car with someone who has an international license. I wasn't able to get mine on time, sadly
there's a few people on Instagram who take people to Daikoku and offer rides in their JDM cars
I asked a couple, some charge 30,000 or so yen per person…. In a brz 🙃
try er34gtr they had a Daikoku Tour for that price
Have you booked before? Do they just let you take the car n return any time?
there's also jdmglobalwarehouse and WangunOG but I'm not sure about their prices
I've made a booking for Oct 13 but I'm not driving, I'm going with Jae Shin reviews on his tour I've read online say he's pretty much the best to go with
but the only downside is that it is quite expensive..
@brittle gulch i could try getting a international license I also drive on the same side just worried about driving in a new country new car
Anyone doing Work and Travel, or just Travel and would like to explore some places, that are not tokyo and kyoto/oosaka together?
I am already in Japan and will be until next summer and currently working with a family. I am looking for a Travel buddy for the coming months (or just weeks, or few days, or…)

and you prob wouldn't have much time for hakone after if you did
I'm in Kamikochi the 18th, though I figure you leave it that day to reach tokyo
That's alright, we'll figure out driving :p I'm interested to join and split costs if you're going through with this
Hi guys, i’ll be in Hokkaido on October 22-27. Hope to see you there!
That’s true!
And I’m in kamikochi the 20th so just miss you haha
Haha! That’s sad!
Where do you come from to Kamikochi?
Where are you before this?
Okay. I am doing Alpine Route and then going to Kamikochi!
Hahah! Are you traveling around in October?
I am going to Kyoto/ Osaka, Hiroshima, Kanazawa, and Tokyo!
Oh so am I
lol
17-20 Tokyo 20-23 Nagano 23-24 Kanazawa 24-31 Osaka 31-3 Hiroshima etc
But I go into November
I am in Tokyo from 18th - 20th October.
Oh
Rest I would have finished by then!
Im doing Fuji the 19th I think
Do you mean just visiting Fuji?
Ye I’m not hiking hiking it
Sorry I’m on mobile so quicker to do that
I see! If you are in Tokyo, maybe we can meetup. Otherwise, I don’t think our itinerary overlaps!
Cool! Texted you!
hiking magome to tsumago
Ah! We miss each other lol!
hey just wondering how long roughly it could take from landing in nrt to getting bags. trying to determine what time to book the airport limo bus
or should i just book the limo at the desk when im fully ready?
tia
Hey, traveling solo and gonna be in Tokyo for Halloween and super excited for it! Is the Shibuya gathering really still going on? I read that there are patrols making sure nothing happens there..
hey! after doing some research and asking some friends i concluded that its not really happening. saw a vid from 2023 halloween and there were lots of cops shooing people along
i'm going home before halloween after all but there's this bakeneko festival on oct 13 where people dress up as cats, and the ikebukuro cosplay festival which i think is halloween weekend! i heard osaka was poppin on halloween weekend too
Ah well I hope you enjoy Halloween back home! And thanks for the suggestions, I will definitely look them up 😁
Hi! I'm Lia (29F) I'll be around tokyo from Oct 11 to Oct 27 and then in Osaka until Nov 12! Nice to meet you all! and I hope I get to meet some of you there 😄
i'm def checking out bakeneko!!! you have to dress up as a cat to participate lol
I don't know if anyone responded but check out the pinned message it has a google sheet where most people are entering their details, dates etc to aid in meeting up with other travelers.
Hey, check out the pinned message it has a google sheet where most people are entering their details, dates etc to aid in meeting up with other travelers.
I put this in the potential meetup section of the google sheet.
I will! tysm!
Thank you!
If anyone wants to join Kamikochi on 22nd Oct do let me know 🙂 I'll be coming from Nagano
Definitely let us know how this goes! I’m thinking of doing this on my next trip
Going to Uji too!
What method did you use to secure a booking for Yoroniku Ebisu?
I just tried using Tablecheck but I got an error'
Yeah. I got all the way to the payment page and then it failed
Yeah, maybe my card provider though it was fraud attempt or something 🤷♂️
I was also a bit confused regarding the cancellation policy.
On the top of the page it says you can cancel for free if more than 48 hours in advance, but then you have to agree on the bottom of the page that you can't cancel or change the reservation
It only shows up after youve selected a date and a course
Yeah, I was thinking something similar. It's a bit weird booking with people you've never met before 😅
I also wanted to try and check this out.
It’s looking to be pretty hot the first week 🥵
I'm interested in this! i'll be in Tokyo this part of my trip, would it make sense as a day trip?
Hi
Hi my name is miles, I’m coming to Japan in the next 2 weeks for a month to see if I could potentially model over there… I’m 20 and have so many questions…. How do I make friends as a solo traveler if I have my own place?… is there pickleball lol?
Picklewuh
Yes there’s pickleball but it’s a bit more local-focussed than for tourists haha
The best way is to go to events as well as bars and (some) nightclubs
and of course organised meetups in this server (see pins)
Please if u now any add me and let’s do something !!
I’m bringing my paddle lol
I don’t need to speak to them just smoke them lol

I think I have seen that around tokyo skytree
If I’m not mistaken it’s a very long trip from Tokyo but I could be very wrong
Anyone going to Arakurayama Sengen/ 5 lakes between the 2nd-4th? A bit unsure whether to just go by train or try to book a tour so interested in what other people are doing 🙂

We got a karaoke night in ginza planned this 6th thats open invite
If you can maybe find a schedule to go to Nara or Osaka at those dates lemme know
I'll be in Osaka those dates, from the 19th to the 1st
The airsoft fields are kinda accessible by train but you'll have to walk at least 1.2km from the station, don't worry tho I'll walk too
I'm potentially interested in this!
Let me know how that location was. Maybe for the 16/17th we can do it there as well.
I'll be leaving Tokyo on the 5th sadly but if anyone wants to do Karaoke between the 2nd-4th let me know!
Hi! I'm also new to Discord. 28M solo traveler here as well. I’ll be doing part of the Alpine Route on the 13th of October and visiting Kamikochi on the 15th. I'll be staying in Matsumoto from the 11th to the 16th and then back in Tokyo from the 16th to the 20th.
If our schedules align, it would be great to meet up!
Our schedule should align! Let me DM!
Are you guys still up for karaoke on the 16th, and would you be down to do it Shinjuku?
Maybe combine it with some izakaya like this one before hand or a trip to Omoide Yokocho?
https://maps.app.goo.gl/4Eg1SWzUf8UtRe1E8
I dont think that will work for us.
2 Oct we are in Shibuya
3 Oct we are in Shinjuku
16 Oct we are in Akihabara
17 Oct we are around Tokyo Station.
17th would be possible to go to Shibuya/Shinjuku.
I'm interested. How much does it usually run? The only Sunday I could would be the 13th
Last time I did any airsoft was over ten years ago

A'ight. I'll be in Shibuya-ish on the 17th as well, but out for dinner
I asked the tour guide I've booked with and he can take 3 passengers if you and @solemn violet are interested on going on the 13th
Would be after dinner. Since we also have dinner plans.
Ahh, I'm leaving on the morning of 13th :/ thanks for the invite though!
Let's keep in touch- Maybe we end up joining parties for the karaoke 🙂

My favorite one is this one tho
