I'm here for 2 weeks and only made 1 dinner reservation, didn't make any at all last time I came. But then I'm not a foody and am easily satisfied by a konbini onigiri

Like if you have looked up a place and feel really set on definitely going there, then absolutely reserve ahead if you can

And character cafes tend to get really booked up
