Im all the way in asakusa so anywhere further than shibuya is a bit far for me, trying not to make the metro ride more than an hour

If you are going southbound to the lakes / hakone. Then pick a rental car location first

Then you set a time, and have everyone meet at the rental car location - that’s accessible by public transportation at a certain time and go on

Luckily it’s a weekday so cars should be more plentiful but it’s kinda crazy how regional buses are filled up like that everyday

There’s JR odawara in hakone, 8am pickup.

Like yeah you gotta go to odawara but you kind of skip the city central commute bullshit. And if you really really wanted you can return the car in shibuya or whatever.
If you rent in shibuya Thats also kinda doable too, but if you are going to take a train, might as well take a morning rapid train to somewhere further out
