#April 2024
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I'll be at Tokyo / Osaka near the first week of april (haven't fixed the itinerary yet), if people would like to meet up
I’ll be in Kyoto as a base for all of April. I’ll be sure to make a Sakura Watch and events thread!
I’ll be in Tokyo from April 1-11, and Osaka from April 11-22 if anyone wants to hang out.
I’ll be in Tokyo fr March 27-31, then Osaka March 31- April 5 and then back in Tokyo fr April 5-8 😋
Something I def want to check out in Tokyo is this
Oh damn, that looks fun
Yeah it’s a vibe
Definitely gonna check that out
FYI for people:
you will need to be at least 18 years of age and have an international driving permit (presented with your home driving licence and passport)
Thankfully that just costs me $20 USD, so hopefully it’s affordable in other countries as well
The international permit?
Yeah the international permit
Sweet
i recall hearing locals not liking people doing that. it caused a bunch of annoyances
heyo, I will also be in japan from 10th april till 8th may going through various cities from Tokyo to Fukuoka, would love to see the cherry blossoms but unsure where/when is the best option (:
cherry blossom bloom earlier the warmer it gets so the west side might be a little late for you
I’ll be in Kyoto from April 1st, then Nagoya/Suzuka from April 4th
I’ll be in Japan March 21-April 9. Will be in Osaka March 23-27 and the rest of the time will be in Tokyo. Would be fun to meet others for tourist stuff, drinking, food, games etc

My Japanese friends took me via this company and we did the rainbow bride route. They are doing a special right now.
Oooooo thank you!
We booked via LINE and that came with 10% off. They prefer you book with them instead of Klook or a 3rd party. They were very nice be friendly.
Ill be in Osaka April 24-27 solo. would love to meet up for drinks and explore some bars if anyone is keen!
TeamLabs Borderless (Mori) tickets are now on sale through April 15! Lots of folks had issues with the official site so we bought via Klook. Here’s $5 off if you’ve never used the site. https://s.klook.com/c/vy7VvQM0wW
Discover and book amazing travel and local leisure experiences with Klook. Find curated activities and fun things to do with exclusive discounts.
And here’s the links to the ticket.
Tickets just went on sale today in Japan and many dates are already sold out. If this was on your list, make your plans now!
🙏
You think booking for early morning is the play for Teamlabs?
Also, what's the basics on actually using a ticket booked through klook?
IE; What's the deliverable?
Anyone want to join up for teamlab borderless or planets? I’m free March 28-april 8.
QR code.
Gotcha! Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up; just booked my date.
Would anyone be down to do a kimono rental together? I’m hoping to take pictures in Kyoto. I would be free from April 1 to April 5
Hey guys ill be in Osaka on the 8th & 9th April, and Kyoto 11th & 12th, and have some free days in Tokyo before I fly back on the 22nd, 28M Solo Traveller from the UK would love to meet up with some new people and hit some bars/restaurants
Do you have an area you’d like to go to and a price in mind? I’m game
I haven’t solidified any places, I’ll do more research and get back to you. But I’m open to suggestions tho!
Heading off to Osaka for F1 race this year in April 5-7 weekend. Havent make up my mind for the rest of the itinerary yet. Either going to spend the week before/after around Osaka/Tokyo if anyone is doing anything
For the background, are you more interested in cherry blossoms, temples, red tori gates, traditional streets? I ask because there are different areas of town that the better for each and there are kimono rental places all over town. And if you have a budget in mind I can suggest a few places. Prices range from about $25-50 and it’s mainly about the selection of kimonos and the number of accessories/look. For example; lace is very popular with high schoolers but doesn’t look very “traditional” if you are going for the classic look. There are also places that seem like a good price but then charge extra for hair, bags, etc. you definitely want your hair put up (to show off your neck line) and to have a hair ornament.
My boyfriend and I are going to Osaka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima in March/April. We haven't purchased tickets yet, but we're pretty sure we're going to the F1 race... or at least the practices.
You have hotels booked?
You ought to prioritize the F1 booking if you don't have them already
Nagoya is already full up for budget accommodations
And I assume it's a similar situation for the pricier stuff as well
Last I checked was two weeks ago
Yes, he booked the Hilton yesterday. He wanted to stay there anyway.
gotcha. good that you have that sorted
I was basically priced out of Nagoya because of the event
but I'm on a shoestring budget
His friend runs a video game bar in Nagoya, so that's why we were planning to go anyway... and then my bf found out about the F1 race and he's all excited about that. I'd only be going because he likes it.
That sucks!
Ah gotcha. Thats pretty chill. I was only booking nagoya because it was between my Tokyo and Osaka stays
Had to book Kamakura instead
All good anyways
Nagoya would have just been a convenience stop for me
What do you plan to do in Kamakura?
Enoshima and Kamakura temples mostly
Maybe some nature hikes
if the weather allows for it
I'm only there two days
Probably could have done it as a day trip, but I read that a day trip for Enoshima and Kamakura can feel super rushed
probably better that I way. I hear temple fatigue is super real
I might have booked too much temple areas tbh
Kyoto, Kamakura, Nara
- whatever I see in Tokyo area
at any rate; good luck on your F1 adventure!
Thanks! We'll be in Osaka too.
Same-ish. I'm in Kobe for the weekend after the F1 event
Might do some meetups in Osaka if I have a trainpass for it
Cool.
Is this channel for figuring out informal meetups or is there a sanctioned meetup happening?
Yes. There are actually two april meetup threads though
There is another you gain access to by tagging yourself with the april flare
You can do that for any month
the meetup threads get pretty active once the dates roll around
also, there are specific area meetup threads
for cities and events
which also get quite active
Sounds overwhelming.
You can get an idea for it by looking at the current Jan meetup thread
3000 posts
Sometimes some wild stuff gets posted
lol
For other group stuff, the events channel is also good
The ticket is sold as the weekend package(no individual days). Its better just to miss the friday and do Saturday/Sunday since theres shows after the qualifying/race. I just booked the hotel in Nagoya(almost out on all other places nearby already, a few bad one in Yokkaichi but thats it).
Yea i hear you. I just booked compass in Nagoya and its like $200 a night. Pretty insane for the location. They have it in Japan early this year on calendar which was unexpected
I’m going to F1 as well, got the tickets already
Friday is the best day though, it’s quieter and a lot of track action.
Which section did you pick? Im still torn between 130R and section E(after 5x chicane with a giant screen)
General Admission
Im still gonna go to all 3days. Going to f1 was the point of the trip(I was just making a stop)
I’ll walk around on Friday to make photos and pick a spot for Sunday. Out of all the seats I had I prefer the freedom of GA over a grandstand
Ahh i thought about doing that but the huge walk distance is discouraging lol
I saw others commented like 30k steps/day for just grandstand if doing public transportation
That’s fine, I’m used to walking a lot when attending F1. I have 3 weeks in Japan prior to train haha
Im literally flying in just for that. Wow a month in Japan thats quite some time. I wish i could take a vacay that long 😍
3 weeks, ending in Suzuka. I made a deal with my wife in exchange lol. Bought some extra holidays at work.
people get more vacation days depending on where they live. Norway gets at least 4 weeks for example
Yes we have 5 weeks
yeah 100%. I think usually Nagoya is much more reasonable
Much more appealing cities were cheaper elsewhere in my itinerary
Including Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo
Not a big deal for me since I can just skip Nagoya
but probably painful for those that can't
200 is what I pay in Nagoya for 3 nights, next to the station. But i booked right after i bought my F1 tickets
Yeah probably very different prices depending on when you booked
I booked Kyoto months ago for April; like 33 a night 10 minute walk to Nijo station
same room is a lot pricier now
close to twice as much
Yes I paid 60 per night in Kyoto, booked about a month ago. Couldn’t find anything cheap
That's when my boyfriend wants to go.
What shows are there?
Is that the western part of the track where you sit anywhere on the ground?
I think they also have some unnumbered concrete/wooden seats. But yes basically it’s the sit anywhere area
A wise man 😄
Would you say $40-50 is a pretty standard price per person? I’ve made a reservation at okamoto in Gion for ~¥5,500 which includes ¥500 for hairstyling
But if you have other rental shop recommendations I’ll definitely take a look
That’s decent price. I didnt think of going until like a week ago. F1 ticket is still ok since its fixed priced i can hang on for a bit and no rush as im going there alone and take any seats. Hotel was the tough one.
It’s unfortunate there is nothing closer and it’s such a long time by train to get to. Least accessible race I’ve been to I think.
I think it’s a little on the expensive side but it depends on the kimonos they have.
Oh my goodness, yes. The transportation options kinda suck. Either lots of walking or you're stuck at the track all day.
I count on both, and a long train ride!
hey folks! will be in japan from the 1st to 21st April, flying to Fukuoka and making my way up to Tokyo through Hiroshima -> Osaka -> Kanazawa (and around), will be in Tokyo from the 15th onwards, let me know if anyone's down to chill
i'm taking almost the exact same route. major difference is that i'm a month earlier 😅
ill be in Tokyo from the 13th - 21st, what did you have mind drinks/food etc?
dont have anything planned yet for those days! but i wanted to hit up some good food spots, check out the new mall and teamlabs
my first time to Japan so agreed on the food, do you have to prebook teamlabs?
yeah u gotta buy tickets beforehand but the window after Apr 15 isnt open yet
The website allows me to book slots for all of April?
DMM.com sells official tickets for teamLab Planets TOKYO where the huge digital art space by teamLab. Please enjoy the interactive world of light created by digital technology.
There are 2 in Tokyo now. Planets in Odiba and Borderless in Roppongi.
Excited to go see borderless! Got my tickets for the earliest time slot but it’ll be on a Saturday so definitely will still be busy
sorry yeah I meant borderless, already saw planets
i'm doing pretty much the same route a month earlier as well
when do you start? I'm there from mid march
I start at the beginning of March
Ending in Tokyo in late March/early April
Hi all, I'll be in Osaka from 12th-14th
Hi I’ll be in Tokyo from the 1-5
Hi all, I will be in Tokyo from April 28th to May 5th 🙂
got a borderless ticket for april 2nd
Hi all, I'm Jack (36M, USA). I'm planning on stopping in Japan for 2ish weeks starting April 6. My ideal travel day starts with good coffee, taking in some local culture, and then wandering through the city for food and drinks. I tend to travel in the style of Bourdain, imposing myself and culture as little as possible along the way. If the night can end in a bar making friends with locals then all has gone right. If you'd like to join in or meet up for any of this trip please shoot me a message 🙂
I'll be in Tokyo on the 6-8th and would be so down to do this
Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you about this! Work has been crazy. I’m still down to do the kimono rental. I plan to do some research this weekend and will let you know 😁
Hello there gonna be my second time in Japan an from 3 April to 5th in Tokyo and from 19 to 22th (M24) from Germany/Poland
where would you suggest and did u want to meet up with @wicked crystal , previously we went to yumeyukata Gojo and Kyokomachi but they were very pricey (altho nice)
wondering if anyone here's attended a Bunraku performance before and your experience. Contemplating catching one of the performances on Apr 20 or 21 at the National Bunraku Theatre.
Anyone in Osaka April 25-26 trying to hit up dotonbori? Karaoke/bars/clubs?
I'm in Ikebukuro Apr 4-19
A man after my own heart, this is the way to travel 💯
For sure
Hi everyone, I already joined the March meetup but since i'm getting there March 22 and leaving Apr 13th , thought it would be good to join both!, this is my itinerary, I'm M26 and my friend is M25, just 2 of us, this is my itinerary, hope we can get to hangout and experience Japan together in certain places:
Tokyo March 22 March 27
Osaka March 27 April 2
Kinosaki April 2 April 3
Kinosaki to Kyoto April 3 April 4
Ainokura/Toyama April 4 April 7
Kanazawa April 7 April 10
TBD Apr 10 Apr 12
Tokyo April12 April 13
also @vivid nexus I didn't know you were gonna be there in April !! Lets find a date to get a drink/do something!
I'll be in Tokyo from the 6th to the 19th (probably in Osaka for a lil' bit too around the 13th - 17th). Who else will be there then?
Im in Tokyo April 6-13, Osaka 15-18
Catching the tigers vs giants game on the 16th 🙂
Oooo I like that idea!
Do you have to buy tickets in advance for that?
Is there anybody willing to go Reol concert on 6th of April? (Osaka)
I bought mine via japanballtickets since I’m stateside
I believe buying in advance is advised especially because they are playing the giants.
Yeah that's like their top rival right?
That's what I have read. I don't follow NPB but love baseball and feel like I need to experience this level of fandom at least once in my life
From Parts Unknown Episode about Osaka shot in 2005 and aired in 2006. Anthony spends time at a Hanshin Tigers bar & takes in a Tigers game at Kyocera Dome vs The Yokohamama Baystars
Hop to 4:45 for the stadium action. I can't wait
Looks awesome and the timing on the game day is nice too
I might check out that restaurant if it's still around
There's a good chance I might end up there the next night lol
Also I know someone who gets a discount on NPB merch so I might get a jersey to wear on game day
Nice. I'm a little too well-fed for Japanese sizing I think.
We will see 😂
I believe this is where he went to watch the game https://r.gnavi.co.jp/f2dpfmj90000/
Anyone going to the NJPW show on April 6?
If I wasn't flying in that day I totally would
Anyone doing the Bachata festival?
whats that
New Japan Pro Wrestling
Nice!
Ill be somewhere around nara, kyoto or osaka from march 30 to april 3, is anyone interested in meeting up and potentially doing a kimono rental or going to one of those tea ceremony classes or something (preferably someone under like 25 and not. weird?)
i'm down! there's 2 of us both 25 @hushed prairie
in osaka from march 27 to apr 2
tea ceremony sounds fun! DM me
in Tokyo?
Yes, I am going to that card and seeing if anyone was going as well!
Same day as WrestleMania, Jesus
Also on the same day of the concert i wanna go to , life is bullshit
is anyone around the same time in tokyo or osaka and would like to go out? I would love to check out the nightlife scene there 🙂
My dates in Tokyo line up a little (April 12 & 13)
sounds great!
Have you planned anything yet? Sorry just got back into my Japan planning in between being swamped at work 😅
And to answer your question I'm interested in taking pictures near cherry blossoms and red tori gates 😁 !
Are you still interested in doing something together? I can DM you to plan stuff out.
Same! I'll be heading to Osaka on the 13th though.

Thanks, I've got that one saved in my bookmarks 🙂
great! do you have any experience going out there already?
Absolutely none, my favourite part of travelling is learning how new places nightlife works. I'm somewhat outgoing and I've got some basic high school level Japanese so should be fine lol
oh same here, gonna be in tokyo apr 11-12th
also staying in ikebukuro
Hey all! I'll also be in Tokyo April 10-15 before heading out to other parts of Japan that still have to decide, super down to hang out~
Unfortunately I won’t be there those days, but I highly recommend you plan your movements cause places are getting full !
More or less ofc, I also enjoy the winging it part of travel
Oh shucks! Did you have a change of plans from being in Tokyo apr 11-12th? And for sure, I already have my hotels booked for the busy areas 😁
No those are my last days in japan so I’m making sure to be neat Haneda/Tokyo
Ah gotcha
Im in Tokyo 4/6-13 flying solo. Staying in Shinjuku. If you’re looking to link up for some exploring/nightlife
It's my birthday on the 11th so I'll deffs be out on the town that night 😂
Hell yeah, great place to celebrate mate
Amazing! For sure, let's link up soon 😁 I'm 20min away in Ryogoku
hey guys, I will be at Osaka in April 12th and I'm looking for someone to go with me at Nintendo World
Nice! I saw you posted in the photography channel as well. Maybe we can get a photo walk in.
That'd be awesome! I'll look forward to it 📸
Anyone down for a visual-kei gig?
That sounds fun
Tickets are on e+ which means tourists can’t buy them btw
Yeah I tried already, hoping there'll still be tix on the door
Japanese phone number required
Wanna hook us up @grave sequoia ?
You can pretty much always get a ticket held in your name at the cheaper ‘advance’ price by contacting the artist. Can’t find a contact address for these guys though…
Some artists just don’t want to be found 😭
😦
Have you looked into a ticket proxy like https://www.ticket-japaaan.com/ ? Great reviews all over reddit for their services.
Purchasing tickets to events in Japan can be a hassle (or even impossible). We, Ticket Japaaan, are here to help!
Believe there's another called Bridge Japan as well
Ooooh good shout! I'll suss that out
I'm 99% sure I'm going to go to the Saturday lineup for Synchronicity on 4/13 if anyone else is going, give me a holler.
I'm down
Awesome. The 1% is trying to figure out how to order from outside of Japan.
Synchronicity has tourist-friendly tickets
I found them! Thank you
I used google to get to the ticket page and it was the JP one
I’m down to join for the 13th!
Suspiciously quiet in here considering that April is only 3 weeks away...
Busy trying to shave off a few kgs to put back on next month 😜
getting mentally ready, gonna be a long one
I’m on the same game plan as @smoky verge but working out and trying to plan food stops seems counterintuitive. It just makes me hungrier lol
29 days until I leave for Japan! WOO
I leave home in 21 days, but then have to suffer through a week of work in Mumbai before Japan, so really like 30 days for me.

Welcome! Read this if you haven't already https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/comments/14sum76/how_to_access_live_music_in_japan_and_why_it/
Also your role shouldn't be 'Visitor in Japan' yet if you're not here yet
Ahh always coming through with the solid bands , thanks so much! Do you have any guides on electronic music or any music festivals happening in April or May?
You arrive the day after the amazing Synchronicity Festival 🥲
and leave before the New Buddy festival... https://skream.jp/news/2024/03/new_buddy_seek_seek_seek.php
But you'll be here for this at least #april message
(Please get an April role from id:customize to view)
going to where again?
Golden Gai
Hello 🙂 I will be travelling Tokyo-Okinawa-Hiroshima-Kyoto-Osaka mid April and interested in checking out a lot of the music/arts scenes if anyone has any info to share or would like to join!
absolutely no idea but I am up for it! 🫡
Hi everyone, does anyone here plan to go to Daikoku PA? I need a ride 😭
That's the spirit!
There's at least two bars in Golden Gai I had considered checking out I believe and I should be back in Tokyo from Osaka that day
should be able to make it as well!
Hello, read this! https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/comments/14sum76/how_to_access_live_music_in_japan_and_why_it/
Hi there, thankyou! I already read it based off your previous mention of it here 🙂
HEY guys I’m in Tokyo from 1-8 April
got any plans?
April 6 through 13 in Tokyo: Question about tour of G-cans: does anyone know about a paid guided tour WITH a translator? (Everything on web seems without translator and the only such service is unavailable at the moment)
Hey guys! I’m leaving Osaka tomorrow. But I’ll be back with some friends first week of April. A bunch of the guys weren’t able to get their leaves approved. Anyone in the Umeda area today?
Hey all!! I’m Mitchell 27M from Singapore and in Tokyo from 12-19 April.
Super hyped for Synchronicity music fest, if anyone is going idm meeting up!
Not music related but a few of us are meeting up for drinks in Golden Gai on the 17th
Howdy y'all! My partner and I are traveling March 30-Apr 16 from the US. Doing the Tourist Loop, but we'll be in Shibuya conveniently for Synchronicity (thanks for the heads up on this!!). Anyone know if it expects to sell out?
I've been trying to get a reservation this entire week. They fill up basically the moment they open.
which is @ 6pm JST 31 days before the date of reservation (4am for me)
I was met with similar dissapointment with the Ghibli Museum as I queued up 30 min early only to find out they queue everyone randomly when the tickets for the entire month are released for sale. I was queued 21,000th place 😦
Good luck to you
sure sounds good !!
Meeting outside the nearest Lawsons at 9pm. I'll be around shinkuku/shibuya that day anyway so can always meet anyone earlier
Myself and @faint schooner have tickets 🙂
How is this fest?
So does @tiny prism 🙂
Yay! Looks like a few people from here will be at synchronicity 😁
I can't believe how fast the Shibuya sky tickets sell out..
You can check the timetable on their insta or download their app!
Sweet!! I’m going both days sooo yep
What is and when is synchronicity?
It’s a music festival on 13-14 April in Shibuya
Unlucky 😦
Yewww! 😁
don't know your budget, but maybe getting a guide from gowithguide might be an option? I booked a tour there ( https://gowithguide.com/japan/tokyo ) and the tourguide offered to change the tour according to my wishes; So it could be possible to message someone there and plan your tour with different locations. Just look for someone you like and message them
Anyone keen to join me in renting a GTR or Supra for the day up in the mountains?
Will need an international driver's permit if you don't have one already to share driving. Or just ride shotgun 😂
Posting weekly until my arrival. Getting into Japan April 15th - May 4th. It’s my second time and I luckily spent a huge amount of time last time discovering the underground music scene all over Japan. Also met tons of cool people and explored lots of nature, food, bars etc. if anyone wants to meet up hit me up!
Hell yeah! Keep in touch we’ll meet up
I'm so down for music, will be heading off on the 19th so there's a bit of overlap towards the end there 🙂
Awesome, we should start a group or somethin
also interested! will be in Tokyo 15-21
@mint perch @autumn sinew @smoky verge https://discord.com/channels/440956791426383882/1217967121372545064
I won't be in Tokyo the weekend of synchronicity (I'll be in Tokyo April 2-10 & 17-19) but would be down to possibly go to some other shows! What genre of music are you guys into?
Can I join on this 🥲
Is anyone going to the F1 and staying in Nagoya for the weekend?
Thank you!

Hi there, posting once weekly until I arrive. Will be in Tokyo April 21st - 27th, Osaka 27 - 30th, then Tokyo the 1st - 3rd. Easy going guy who’s up for anything nature, food, live music and get togethers. You can also join the live music meetup here: https://discord.com/channels/440956791426383882/1217967121372545064
Are there sports bars or places where people watch F1 races?
I'll be in Fukuoka during the Suzuka race, and I'd imagine a lot of Japanese people and foreigners will be looking to watch the race somewhere, but I can't seem to find any place that's open.
The race starts at 2PM, and most sports bars/pubs don't seem to open until 6PM..
I’ll be in Suzuka during the Suzuka race 😉
I found a few in tokyo that I want to check out aswell!
Yo im not an expert but id love to tag along
Wow I love hookah please I will join you

★★★★★ · Hookah bar
Im unsure about japanese hookah standards though
i got mines booked for the 9th
I absolutely love shisha but Im not expecting too much hahah. I heard that they remove the nicotine in some places but idk if I can trust that (source: reddit posts)
at least they try!
would love to join you guys
Ayoo count me in
my research is so bad, I really thought shisha was banned in tokyo

I'll be April 17th to May 3rd
Let's plan for 17

Hi! I am French (23M) and will stay until April 15th for and work remotely! I know Japan a bit since I studied at the university of Tokyo. I really want to meet people to do as much random activities as we could possibly imagine ahah Maid cafés, karaokes, whatever animal café, Fuji Q highland, late nights clubbing! Let me know if you are down for this kind of things!
Hey, i'm planning to do Shimanami Kaido Cycling tour between 10 - 12. If you happen to be there at the same time and would like to join, hmu.
Hey all. Figured I'd post again since I'm about two weeks out from travel. Jack (US, 36M). Traveling solo, staying in Shinjuku. Into finding hidden gems, hole in the wall bars or restaurants, sightseeing, and photos. I'll also be taking in some live music while in Tokyo (4/6-14, Osaka/Kyoto 4/15-21. Would love to meet other travelers looking to explore.
I'm there on the 11th
doing a full day
I did that on my previous trip in 1 day. It was deadly haha
So many uphill paths and sunny as hell to top it off. Views were amazing though
Go hard on the sunscreen, you'll be out the entire day
we have ebikes
Anyone going to be in Kyoto between April 19th-25th and are interested in meeting up?
@autumn sinew awesome. I normally like hitting attractions alone but am down for group dinners if people do those
(CAN, 27M) I'll be in tokyo from April 4th-14th. Mostly doing some anime and clothing shopping. Aswell as teamlabs borderless on the 8th. Hmu if anyone is down for a bit of shopping or drinks later in the evening
I’ll be in Tokyo from the 17th-22nd, would love to check out some live music! I’ll be staying near Shimokitazawa 🤗
Hi all! I’ll be in Kanazawa from the 12th-17th, and then Tokyo from 17th-22nd if anyone is interested in meeting up ☺️ I’d love to do some birdwatching/easy nature walks, catch live music shows, take art workshops and visit galleries, and go to all the cafes and bookstores! Looking for hidden gems and scenic places to people watch 🤍
hey everyone, would love to link up!
Coming to Japan with a small group of friends from Houston, TX. This is our schedule:
- Tokyo 4/18 to 4/20
- Kyoto 4/21 to 4/25
- Tokyo 4/26 to 05/13
This is my second time going. Interested in live music, hole in the walls/speakeasies, dank food, and experiences
Hey folks - I’m (37M) going to be in Japan from Mar 29-Apr 11 and planning to travel with a friend / solo for different parts of the trip. My plan is to do Tokyo (5days) - Hiroshima (1day) - Kyoto (2days) - Osaka (5days) - Tokyo (1day). If anyone will be in those cities and wants to see some sights, feel free to msg me and we can hangout!
hi guys! 32F queer here 🙋 first time in japan arriving in tokyo april 15th, kyoto and osaka from april 22nd until the 28th, back to tokyo on the 30th and leaving on may 6th.
looking to try all the good food, buy vintage anime goodies and second hand books/everything, seeing live indie j-rock/j-pop, going on hikes until my feet are sore, exploring temples and going karaoke (:
message me if you'd like to connect!
Hi everyone, I (24m) will going to Japan for the first time from April 3rd - 20th.
I will be in Nagoya from the 4th -7th. (6-7th f1 suzuka. Would love to meet anyone that is going there)
Kumamoto from the 8-10th
Osaka from the 10th -14th
Tokyo from the 15-20th
I like visiting museums, walking around, playing sports, trying food and listening to live music. I very much go with the flow of what the day itself has to offer. So if anyone is down to hang out for a bit lmk!
#1182317586810159194 a few of us are going
Anyone planning to go to the big NJPW show at Ryogoku Kokugikan on April 6?
I'll be in Tokyo from the 13th-19th (25m). I've got a tight itinerary but am always down to meet for dinner if you're also someone who isn't a fan of eating alone all the time
28M here id be down a for dinner, any particular type of food
Basically anything as long as it isn't western styled food. I'm from Canada so I'd prefer to try something new lol
Fried chicken excluded
Hey guys, is anyone staying at Hostels or has experience with it? Because Im thinking about getting a Hotel or a Hostel
Nice I'm from the UK, I've always wanted to try proper wagyu
I'm staying in Hostels for my trip solely because of the budgeting aspect of it and the hopes of maybe socializing a bit. I highly recommend using Hostel World because it has a chat group where you can talk to people going during the duration of your trip
Alternatively, I hear Capsule hotels are another great option and a blend of hostel and hotel
From what i've been seeing in the food chat, Osaka is the place to be for that. Not sure if you're going there. I haven't looked too extensively in Tokyo for it though
I I'm on osaka from 7th-10th so will keep an eye out
Tbh I'm easy its my first time japan so i don't mind what I eat 😂
Yeah same here, also, I have to be honest, don't take it personally if I don't follow through with making plans (i'll follow through if we do make plans though) I'm a pretty shy and fast moving traveller. I have such a jam packed schedule that I'm not sure if I'll have time but would like to make time and meet people
Oh god. The traditional capsule rooms are tiny as hell
That's cool dude, my schedule is pretty packed too, I'm fairly introverted too
I saw one in Osaka that seemed pretty spacious, J-ship Osaka
I hope you are not claustrophobic
I opted for hotels because the capsules scare me 😂
If you have the choice, do get the bigger capsule rooms
I ended up cancelling my capsule and booking a hostel instead. But we'll see if my bunk bed is any bigger
what scares me about capsules is not the size, but the fact that you can't lock a door 🤡
feels so exposed
The exposure
we'll get along just fine then haha. I'd be more than happy to share my itinerary with you in case you find we're somewhere on the same day
I like my privacy lol
Sure can send a direct on dis?
yeah will do!
The one thing you need to deal with in a hostel is people snoring
I'm having the opposite concern. I'm afraid that I'm gonna snore
If you are a light sleeper then I hope you have noise cancelling headphones
Probably ask someone if you snore or not lol
I'm considering taping my mouth closed 😭
If you do snore, people will secretly spite you
can't wait to get jumped in my sleep
My main concern right now with hostels is not even sleep anymore, it's luggage security
How is the socializing aspect in these hostels? Is it like a school trip with random people? 😂
I have genuinely no idea yet tbh. The only time I stayed at a hostel was actually a school trip so I knew everyone there LOL
yeah this is what I'm constantly told. I won't be keeping anything super valuable back at the hostels anyways
In japan? People generally don't talk to each other
You'll more often see guys simping to girls
My hostel told me this when I asked. They said people are willing to, but you've got to initiate
Sure you can initiate but it gets tiring after asking the same question 50 times in 1 trip
very true. I also don't know how much socializing I'll actually end up getting done since I'm an out of the place by 6am person
I do.. but there is locker that I can usually put my stuffs in
ah as long as there's a locker, I'll feel fine
my hostel says there are
I'll doubt you would want to carry your tablet/steam deck/handheld around the entire day
oh yeah no that's fair. I'm doing my best to bring as little as possible this trip. I have a bad habit of taking too much normally and then leaving with even more
I'm down for a dinner. We should set that whenever y'all have free time those days @still rover @iron stag
As of now, the days I don't have concrete dinner plans are the 14th, 16th, and the 18th (but I'll be coming back late from Hakone on the 18th)
Sounds good to me, I'll be in Shibuya most that day. Any area of Tokyo in particular
I'm staying in Ueno so should be easy to get to other places
I'm mainly in Taito that day
I don't remember why or how I came across it, but I had this place on my itinerary for that day (def didn't reserve yet though)
my dumb ass @iron stag your hotel is like a 30 min walk from my hostel, so we'll be in the same area usually
I can't see the menu on the website unless I'm being stupid 🙃
yeah neither could I. I used the google review images of the menu and just translated it using google lens
It's basically Japanese bar food (I can't remember the correct term) but like ramne, karaage, other kinds of stuff
all you can drink too apparently
you'd be shocked how many all you cand rink places I've found on google in Japan
I don't even drink but it might be cheaper than water
I've been speaking to a Japanese dude from Saitama, he likes the all you can drink places
20 dollars an hour apparently which coming from the UK is mega cheap
I feel like there's more eating I wanna do in Japan than anything else
Agreed
Damn i dont arrive to Tokyo until the 15th 😭😭😭
Yeah maybe you see a spot that looks good while you're there
Cool I'll be staying at Taito city as well
I will keep my eyes peeled
Yeah I could probably still do the 16th
I'll be out and about for dinner on any of those dates
Anybody interested in checking out this unagi spot in Shinjuku the week after next? (4/6-12) looks like if we got a group of six together we’d take up the whole place 😂
For sure. I’ve got dinner reservations on the 11th already but maybe for lunch?
I would be down for this. I'm back in Tokyo on Apr. 6, flying home on the 10th though.
I'm keen for something tasty on the 11th, it's my birthday 🥳
same!
I am visiting Japan April 1st - April 18th and I will be in Tokyo April 1-6 , Kyoto April 9-12, Tokyo 14th-18th (I am still working out some of my iternary) I am excited to eat all the japanese food I can, meet travelers, locals, and take lots of photos with my analog camera
I've got a tattoo appointment from midday to 6ish pm, then keen to go out for dinner and see what happens from there
this might sound silly but I am new to Discord. How does one tag themselves with an April flair?
In the file select menu. Search the discord for it via text or just go through all the channels
Down , let’s plan closer to the date
are you in Tokyo twice or was there a typo there?
It's pretty common to have Tokyo twice in an itinerary, usually at the start and the end
anyone planning to make a reservation for Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu? either the third week of april or first one of may?
it'd be cool if a bunch of us can arrange to go have dinner there together
That’s what I’m also doing
4 days beginning and 2 at the end
I wouldn't be against it depending on the day and time
Anyone in Osaka on April 19th and want to hit up a Yakinuku place with me? There's something that feels sad about sitting over a grill and watching meat cook alone
I am always down for delicious food, count me in
11th works for me
Alright then what’s the birthday plan? I’ve got early dinner plans but it sounds like we need to get something going for you
I’d be down for the 11th too during lunch if there’s space!
Sounds like we are going to shut this place down. I think they’ve got 12 seats in total 🙂
absolutely down to check out anything that serves eel
ah nvm, we arrive on the 12th! 😦
can potentially join me @still rover & @vagrant sonnet for food on the 16th
Unagi is my favorite food. If the spot is good I will 100% go back on the 12th with you lol. My Airbnb is super close
Wow ngl I’m more excited to try it since I’ve never had it before 😅
I’m excited to try it in different variations. Each unagiya seems to have their own spin on the sauce and prep style.
Also really looking forward to trying the soup and skewers
Yeah, would have loved to go here with all of y'all but i dont get to tokyo until the 15th. Taking over a whole restaurant sounds crazy.
same here! I love eel, I'm so excited to eat it in various forms
I just noticed that I confused the times again, the arrival is on the 12th at midnight, I think the first day we can actually do stuff will be the 13th then 😦 is that still fine?
this sounds good too!
so far I think I'm in a hookah outing, a nightclub outing, and a food night 🤩
the holy trinity
I’ll be spending all day on the 13th at synchronicity in shibuya so that probably wouldn’t work for me, sorry 😞
But from everything I gather that place is very much worth checking out
I took over one of the google docs I saw in the other thread and changed it up for April, could you guys fill your stuff in too? 🙂

Well I should be having my first beer of the day back in Ikebukuro area around 7, rooftop bar would be dope, maybe golden Gai later in the evening but I'm not fussed honestly
Thank you! I saw that May one and was planning on compiling one tomorrow.
I'll be in Kyoto on the 19th but not above trekking back to Osaka for meat. Getting a tebori tattoo earlier that afternoon so I bet I'll be famished after.
[repost] thinking of going for Bunraku performance on Apr 20 (18:15 show). @faint schooner saw in the meetup sheet you might be interested?
Ah shucks I’ve got dinner reservations that night. I’m thinking of going on 4/15 but not sure my attention span can handle anything more than the ‘Short trip’ ticket offering
haha no worries then. oh yea i just noticed the single-act ticket.. might go for that too in case i get bored halfway 🤣 . much more affordable too
dropping here first and will update the Google sheet later. drop me a msg if ur keen to meet for any of the following!
Mon 15 Apr: Nagashima Spa Land
Sun 21 Apr: Akashi Kaikyo Bridge Tour
Mon 22 Apr: USJ
Tue 23 Apr: Shimanami Kaido (weather forecast for now doesn't look promising tho)
No typo ! I’m there twice
Thank you!!
If this isn’t full I might be interested! What day will it occur ?
let me know how Teamlabs is! I have mine booked for the 15h!
Cool but not amazing tbh
Too many people, too catered to influencers but still@fun !
As long as it's still fun!
absolutely!
The pain of traveling
I just did Borderless today, and holy shit
Very very good. Just a heads up, set aside 4.5 hours for it. I think 4-4.5 hours a reasonable amount if you're taking it slow and soaking it all in.
Didn’t see it
I did borderless back in 2018, does anybody know if the exhibits change? I’d be down to go but don’t want to if it’s the largely the same
Great question, probably better suited for #attractions though
Oh thanks!
4.5 hours???
that's wild
Yup! And the time flies by too, if you're in a relaxed mindset
oh my god what did yall do for that time?
btw could any mod/admin pin this message so it doesn't get lost? 🙂
I hear borderless is better because there's more? Idk. Planets has an emphasis on water and nature. i booked both
I think you'll still be satisfied based on what I've heard. I'm looking forward to both regardless
When are you going?
oh damn, just 2 hours before me
you'll probably be leaving as I'm starting.
done
thank you!
anyone in Osaka 1-5th April? I’m working remotely 7am -> 3pm but keen to explore after! I’ll be staying near Sinshaibashi
I’ll be around 🙂
Planning to go to Hiroshima on 4/3 if anyone’s around 😊
So many people going to Hiroshima that I'm starting to feel that FOMO
not sure why I didn't have it on the list 😭
Also, definitely check out that excel sheet they have pinned. April people have been sharing their schedules and I think I saw some people In Hiroshima around your time 🙂
I totally missed that. Thanks!
No problem!
For stuff I can’t fit in for my trip, I say Another excuse to come back lol 😆
I haven't even gone yet and already planning my next trip 😭
Canada is just so far though
Most people spend 2 days in hiroshima. It is out of the way to get there though
Unless it is along the way
So trueeee
I am actually getting to Hiroshima on 4/2 afternoon and leaving on 4/3 evening. DM me if you wanna meet up on 4/3
I'm around too
Is there a Google doc like in the May char?
#1173234572431999099 message
I visited Hiroshima last summer for 3 nights. We had a hectic schedule up until this point, so I actually really enjoyed taking the foot off the accelerator.
There's an amazing wagyu grill between the Knot hotel and the Dome, and a day trip to Miyajima is wonderful
The owners of the grill were so interested in why we were there and why I could speak a little Japanese haha
Nothing wrong with taking breaks during the trip. Every person is different
Anyone planning to go to EVO? I'm not playing anything, just looking for people to hang out with.
When and where???
Looked it up. I just miss it
I'll post dates for anyone else vaguely interested.
EVO Japan is April 27th - 29th, Ariake GYM-EX Tokyo. Event is basically many Fighting Game tournaments in one location. Tickets are required to enter (You can pick days. I'm not going 29th because it's Grand Finals day.)
Based on what @vale siren told me, japan is terrible at organizing game tournaments in that they don't have a lot of space
So just be ready to be squished
They have a lot of space. They don’t utilize it correctly
Past two evo japans I was herded like cattle during pool play
Shoulder to shoulder even when playing
If anyone is interested in catching some live music on April 12 (Friday) I'll be attending this show. Going specifically to see QPLO. If you like Daft Punk, Justice, and the like you may be into them as well. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1213414417832616016/1218927876171370546/IMG_3342.png?ex=6612ac8c&is=6600378c&hm=987bcc175869bc736a645ef01fa7e03e26918281b706240bf24fe37dad4178bf&
I can't find a venue link for tickets yet, but have been messaging with QPLO about it.
I’d have joined if I wasn’t booked for shibuya sky, love live music!
Yeah, and I haven't booked anywhere to stay yet past the 18th 🙃
Anyone going to be around Osaka,, ideally Dotonbori on the 8th/9th April in the evening, would love to meet up for drinks and checkout all the streetfood
Can you share the name of the grill?
I’ll be in Osaka those same days. Might do a Nara daytrip on the 8th but you’re welcome to join.
Ah ill be doing Himeji that day
Guys can we plan for the Hookah/Shisha
I will be in Tokyo from 10 to 13, then 16 to 18
It seems to be permanently closed 😭
広島市中区大手町で広島牛を扱う、炙り焼きダイニングCent(セント)です。紙屋町からも近く、精肉店直営なのでリーズナブルな価格でお楽しみいただけます。
Cent grill
However, okonomimura is also a must visit for food
this one was from Ron
would anyone be down to try for a 3-person reservation at Ebisu Yoroniku? I can do apr 15-20 and am looking for 2 more willing souls 🙂
im planning on going every day to one 🫡
I'm game, leaning towards the 16th, what time are you looking at booking
I would be down. I can do any day between 15th -19th
@vagrant sonnet @iron stag so the only available times seem to be 10 PM for 3 since we're quite late 😅 , on apr 15-18 and 20
all the earlier time slots are already booked
its available to reserve on both tablecheck and omakase.in but i'm not sure why the omakase reservation is a lot pricier 🤔
omakase.in has more slots available to book though, so maybe that's it
Is there a huge price difference?
tablecheck ranges from 9900 to 14400 yen, omakase.in has em listed at 22000 - 24200 yen
so almost twice the price 💀
And for the same menu?
it looks to be very similar, yes
https://omakase.in/en/r/yr300126
https://www.tablecheck.com/en/shops/ebisu-yoroniku/reserve
here's the links if u wanna compare
Looking now
Onakase seems to have more items on the higher priced menu
Seems to be the "Special Course"
it's pretty much the same as the 14400yen course on tablecheck i think
minus 1-2 things?
if anyone who's ever been could chime in that'd be great 😅
I don't understand why they don't just have it on one website 😅
if i had to guess they might sell reservation slots to different websites, kind of like hotels
alright, we'll see what @vagrant sonnet has to say about it
its scuff coz we're doing it last minute, but apparently this restaurant is godlike so i dont mind a 10pm meal
It looks like some good eating. You’re in for a treat!
Im with it
so we cool with Apr 16 10pm? @iron stag
Let's do it
Book it
lol bank blocked the payment thinking it was a fraudulent transaction, and I can't text em to confirm it for some reason :/
Oof. Sorry that happened. I had that yesterday but I could text them, fortunately.
@iron stag @vagrant sonnet its booked
had to use a different card but i think it'll work out
Awesome thank you
I've added it the Google sheets meetup tab Trixious setup
let me know if anyone is interested on dinner on the 14th in Tokyo or late on the 18th. Technically the 13th too but that's when I land and have no idea when I'll be settled
Oh I'm also in Kyoto / Osaka between the 19th - 25th
If anything or any of those days catches your eye, let me know! I'm also still free on the 16th too, forgot about that
And if anyone else was interested
I also don't mind if it's not a planned reso thing and we go somewhere chill or casual that tends to be good with walk ins if that exists
heyy I'm interested too! arriving in Japan around April 1 then staying for 2-3 weeks
Anyone wanna aim for the 14th?
I don't really have an itinerary yet! so im down
should be free for a dinner on the 18!
hey id love to go and see them, where is the show going to be?
Says on the flyer, Shimokitazawa BASEMENT BAR
QPLO are awesome, can confirm

hey! are there other websites like omakase where i can view multiple options by date? 🤔 should probably get an itinerary going
i've only ever used omakase and tablecheck, but I know u can reserve with tabelog as well though it might be on the jp site only (and u might need a jp phone number)
normally I just look up the restaurant's name + "reservation" on google and see what looks legit
gotcha. thank you!
@sharp pilot @autumn sinew @mint perch , just a note, and for anyone else that was interested in joining, I come back late to tokyo on the 18th, like 9:30pm at the latest , if you guys are okay with that. But I am trying to see how I can shorten my Hakone trip because idk if I want to be there all day So I'm going to try to be back to Tokyo by like 7-8pm
I'm cool wih having a super late dinner, as long as I can either catch the last train back to my hotel or can reasonably walk back
Where abouts are you thinking
No set place in mind ( I feel like I don't have enough sushi planned) but I'm open to ideas
I can start looking when we have a time and date in mind and also a general neighbourhood we can congregate to
18ths Ok for me, I'll be staying around Uneo most the day so most areas are within easy reach
Even if I come late, Ueno is a good spot for me because I can walk about to my hotel. It'll be a bit of a treck, but it's still just within an hour walk
(in case I miss the trains)
Oh I should mention this too, is anyone planning on going to Hakone on the 18th? Or wanted to experience an Onsen, let me know
this place was brought up in the food channel. I'm kind of intrigued if anyone else is, a bit pricey for me considering I barely drink though, but wanted to throw it out there
it was said it needs to be booked pretty well in advance, so not sure there are any slots left at this point
My coworker also recommended this place to me @still rover
smallyyak49 aid he paid about 7700 yen for 3 drinks. again, I'm not much of a drinker so to me that seems like a lot, but maybe someone can chime in?
I guess that's like $20 CAD a drink, but they're specialty drinks
I think the appeal is great service and inventive cocktails with ingredients not typically found in bars. It’s one of the best bars in the world according to many industry publications etc.
I forgot to respond to this one specifically. We'll be in Kyoto / Osaka at the same time in case you want to do something then as well
Oh jesus. I feel like that'll be wasted on me tbh
So even if you aren’t a heavy drinker it might be worth it for the experience
Or maybe they make you the first drink that you fall in love with
very true
It’s a tough decision though. If your time in Tokyo is valuable and other things can happen at the time you’d be doing this then its probably not fully ‘worth it’ but if you don’t have any other solid plans at night why not see what all the fuss is about? I am a fancy cocktail fan and even I’m not sure if im going to try and make the time for it
But it would likely be a very cool experience if I did.
this, and I'm a bit of a budget
I feel like I'd rather probably spend it just eating LOL
Fair enough! A cheap beer and eats at an izakaya will almost certainly be just as fun in a different way
Surprisingly, an Izakaya is still the one thing I have not planned for
Could be the route we go for the 18th?
not a bad idea
I would offer to scope out some places but I have no idea what to look for 😂
Any tips @faint schooner
they shouldn't be too hard to find. Just a matter of where
If we do the 18th, the closer to the train station, the better since I'll be coming back to Tokyo pretty late
Which station. I'll have a look on my break
Either ueno or Tokyo Station preferable because I can at least walk from those areas back to my hotel, but I can be flexible. I wouldn't want to make anyone else miss their train either
I’d be down for dinner if anything’s happening on the 14th. I’m keeping 14-17 pretty open for now since I’m aiming to do a Fuji trip one of those days when the forecast is clear.
The Fuji climb? I think you need to book well in advance
Oh no, I meant just roaming around Fuji

Right next to Ueno Station focusing on seafood
I’ve got a list but I can’t vouch for them (yet). Just based on research or friend recs from their previous trips.
Do you know which side you plan on going to? I've been told to go Hakone
Better than anything I've got atm 😅
I was aiming for the region between Yamanakako & Kawaguchiko. If the skies are good I might rent a car and do a couple of days around there.
Are you headed to Hakone?
On the 18th, so one day after your prospective day
this looks promising
8 days ! I'm so stoked!
9 days for me a mixture of anxiety and pump 😂
13 days for me 😭
Anyone else already mentally checked out from work 😂
2 weeks to go
Not work, but I have a week to decide which school to do my PhD for the next four years and I'm telling you right now I've spent all morning researching Hakone than actually making a decision
Im headed to Mumbai for a week of work before getting to Japan. I can’t be checked out but also I’m fully checked out
8 days to go
I manage the maps venue listings for Snapchat and a portion of our moderation team is there. I get to do yearly site visits. I usually try to turn the return flight into a stop somewhere for vacay if I can swing it.
dayuuuuuuuuuuuuum
for anyone that was hoping to meet up for a late dinner on the 18th, I just did my calculations and timings for that day and I should be back in Tokyo by 9:30pm at the latest
Hey all, gonna be in Osaka 14th-19th and Kyoto 19th-26th. Would love to meet some people over some good food & drinks! Give me an @ in here or a DM if there's any plans in those place and times
sounds good, I forget who else said they might be down for it
I'd have to scroll up but there were a few
I'll be in Kyoto from the 20th - 24th and might be down after I take a look at my schedule!
Nice, I've booked my trip super last minute and haven't made specific plans yet so let me know if you've make plans that night and I'll do the same!
I know as of now I already have dinner resos on the 23rd and 22nd, but no dinner plans on the 20th or 21st, or the 24th. But one of those days I'm hoping to train over to Osaka and eat some street food for dinner
I think @faint schooner is in the "area" at that time as well
by area, I mean Osaka / Kyoto because I can't remember which
if worse comes to worse, i can canel my dinner reso on the 23rd because I'm kind of hesitant on the place I picked. Not even sure I'll like it
I’ll be in Osaka 4/16-18, then Kyoto 18-21. Let’s hang!
Since the beginning of the week 😭
@faint schooner @nimble basin @autumn sinew how do you guys feel about Yakiniku?
Sounds good! I've been to Osaka before so know my way round a little but first time to Kyoto
Love it!
So one of my reserved dinner days was at this place https://maps.app.goo.gl/956GLSYNfbNnkJmMA
It's an Omakase Yakiniku which might be interesting
I could always see if it can be changed to the 20th which seems to be a day we're alla vailable
all*
I was going to do the 6000 yen Omakase course
I'm down for that!
Looks about right for the amount of courses, 10000 looks great but trying to finish all of it could be a challenge!
Alternatively, if you guys are down to take a train to Osaka, there's an All you can eat Yakiniku place that I had booked as well
but I feel like sticking to Kyoto will be easier
I feel pretty darn good about it. You ever seen a human eat their weight in meat? Lol.
Basically every time I eat
My dude 🔥
I 100% travel for food and this trip is no exception. I’m coming hungry
But if I can make some new friends and take some cool pictures that’s a win too
So one thing about this place @faint schooner @nimble basin @autumn sinew is that it required payment before (free refund if you cancel before 5 days. So I'm going to see if there's another way to make the reso because I don't want one person paying for it and then something comes up with someone and then someone else is left to foot the bill, you know?
ah looks like I can actually just call
That makes sense, always a bit awkward having to put money up front for strangers!
now I'm trying to find info on it, but there's a Pontocho Omakase Course for 6000 yen and a Hiro Omakase Course for 8000 yen. I can't see what the difference is yet but any preference from anyone? ANd is 6pm alright? @faint schooner @nimble basin @autumn sinew
also, any allergies?
oh right, the 20th @kyoto
I think that was the day all four of us are there
most things close by 5pm in Kyoto anyways
I'm actually gonna put this link here because they have locations all over Kyoto and some of them are a bit more homey? if that makes sense and a bit cheaper too
We wish to share the splendor ofJapanese beef with everyone.
in case you guys don't wanna do a bit fancier Omakase (as if what I chose was at all fancy lol)
Maybe, and the added bit of it being an Omakase
yeah this one caught my eye too
If we went the pricier direction, I'd prefer the original one I mentioned because they specialize in Wagyu
I'd be up to do this one and then I keep my original reservation for the omakase one
I just made one on their website and it needed no prepayment
However, I had to make it for 5pm on the Sanjo location
the only other time was like 9pm
but I made the reso just as a place holder and then we can talk about it more later
it says the average price for Senbon Sanjo is about 4500 yen
cool, and in that case I'll keep my original reso for Hiro Pontocho
that one I have booked for myself on the 23rd
I did make a place holder reso for the four of us though on the 20th
for that place too
so we can decide between the two of them later tonight
I'm going to add it to the google sheet for now
Sorry for the radio silence - I’m currently flying to Mumbai. Dinner on the 20th sounds great
Thanks for looking into those reservations
I’ll be in Osaka from the 16th to the 20th, definitely looking for seafood and lots of beer/crazy cocktails
Looking to get in a YOLO omakase meal sometime between 4/6-11 in Tokyo area. Anyone have recommendations or reservations to share? I hear most good ones require at least two guests…
Get a different role from id:customize and ask in the food channel #food for recs
I'll be in Osaka 18-22 and I'm up for beer and seafood for sure
hi everyone! just found this server, dropping by to say hi and ill be in Tokyo mid April til first week of May!
nice, some of us will meet in a shisha cafe in April
Oh I've been in Tokyo and sticking in Tokyo until about the 8th when I go to osaka for 3 days then come back to fly home
So I've been learning a lot of cool Tokyo areas
Is anyone interested in going to the Smino concert on the 2nd?
Welcome! There's an excel sheet pinned to this chat and has been a great way to set up little meet ups! lot's of people here wanna hang out so you should be spoiled for choice!
No problem dude, have a safe flight
Just a heads up that we're actually between two places that day so I double booked for the 4 of us. One place is the original one I mentioned which is an Omakase Yakiniku ranging from 6k Yen to 8k Yenhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/xVMchUhspVbeZD1RA
The other was this place https://maps.app.goo.gl/hhF8wdL1vWj6SV197
which is the same company, but a bit less up scale ranging from like 4-5k yen. Let me know which of the two you guys prefer @autumn sinew @nimble basin @faint schooner . I think Kizo preferred the Senbon Sanjo location. I'm indifferent but just need to know so I don't go to Hiro Pontocho twice because I kept my original solo reso LOL
@iron stag @mint perch @sharp pilot @autumn sinew I remember saying you guys were down for a late dinner possibly on the 18th. I did some looking around and found what looks to be a decent Izakaya (something I personally wanted to try but feels weird as a solo traveller) https://maps.app.goo.gl/nkvWYhw6q56vduNeA
I made a place holder reso for the 18th at 10pm for 7 people. I added a few extra spots in case others wanted to join us. @celest mortar I think you're in Tokyo at that time if you wanted to tag along if we follow through. Same with @vagrant sonnet and if there were others, i can probably increase the reso size. let me know what you all think!
Also sorry for all the tags tonight. I like planning LOL
Oh I also chose a place close to the train so depending on where everyone is, they can quickly make a last minute train back to their hotel
Sounds good @still rover , appreciate you sorting the bookings etc top man
No worries man! Just didn't want us scrambling last minute and also wanted a place that has decent vibes for a reasonable group
Yeah the place looks pretty good and reasonably priced from what I saw
I booked too many places that take over my food budget so I gotta be careful
I initally planned a budget but it has soon been left to the wayside lol
My budget goes up significantly depending on which PhD school I choose. Might have to go to the one offering more money LOL
chase the bag
I'm pretty indifferent too! Both places look delicious and happy to go with Senbon Sanjo if that's Kizo's preference
sounds good. We'll wait to see what Jack once he's a bit more settled
This is the spot you have extra spaces for on April 18 at 10pm?
If so and there is still a spot available, I'm in
Hey yeah I should still have an extra spot but I'm also gonna increase the reso to 10 people just in case and then I'll bring it down later when we get a concrete number
So I'll count you in!
Sweet thank you 🙏
No problem. See you then!
Have updated the google sheets meetup tab for this
sweet, thank you!
No problem
Count me in as tentative! I need to actually book my flight to Tokyo first…. Buut the plan is to be there by then
Im down
you have been added to the list sir
sounds good! thanks for planning it out
added you too @mint perch
Noted! I'll count you in
that's seven in total, still have room for 3 more unless I counted wrong
Yup! I think that can potentially be pretty fun
Also, @mint perch noticed you're also from Canada. Any idea if our outlets work in Japan? I'm getting conflicting info
if you're talking about the electrical plugs they're the same as in Canada, I didn't have any trouble charging my phone last I went, not sure if you have any other things you need to plug in
nah just my phone, so that's really good to know
was about to buy an unnecessary adapter so you saved me some money
cool, they don't have the three-prong outlet tho so you'll need an adapter for that I think
yeah I noticed that, but I should be good since my phone charger is just a two-prong
I just need something that can connect a couple of usb though so I can charge my kindle and watch
I have no problem with either spot. I’m sure by that point in the trip my wallet will be like ‘dude ease up on the spending’ but it’s not gonna stop me lol
I feel the same way LOL. How about we stick to the Sanjo spot (the slightly cheaper one)
Sounds good to me
thank you, would love to join!
Nice! I'll add you to the Excel sheet!
did you also look at the ones I sent you?
I have also an excel sheet for the trip and written down some more shisha places I want to try, some are on the more expensive side though but offer a better service 🙂
We're at 8 people now for that night, we're growing
could you also add @silent sleet to the list? 🙂
no I meant my personal travel sheet, I will look at it from home and tag you with some more places if thats alright?
Oh wait, I still need to add @sharp pilot
also I don‘t have the meetup sheet infront of me atm but I think one person was in Fukuoka at the same time as us, the 5th may I believe
I also found shishas there 🤭
Kanamara Matsuri is 4/7. In planning on going with a group of mostly ex pats from Meetup, but is anyone here also interested in attending, maybe making a food stop or two as well?
Oh no I know nothing about fugu
the idea freaks me out
ohhhhhhh that's good to know. i might be willing to try it but don't forget our dinner reso on the 20th please 😭
tempting. Let me think about it unless you come up with any places you can send and I can look it over to see if I'm down
Finally walking out of my last day of work before the trip 🤙🤙🤙
Oooh I'd be interested on the 21st!
Hi strangers! 😆
I'm Paulo, and I'll be traveling solo to Osaka from April 2 to 8. I don't really have anything planned since this was a last minute trip, but I want to take daytrips to Kyoto and Nara, so I'll be happy meeting new friends along the way! Feel free to DM me!
for the location I'm trusting you, lets catch up at 10th night in tokyo to plan better at a shisha cafe?
@onyx ridge do you and your partner have plans on the 18th? Or Is that the day you fly out?
18th we fly out 😦
ah damn. This is the restaurant that a bunch of us are going to on the 18th
https://maps.app.goo.gl/ooKkJZvz51R3XnNs8
It has halal kobe beef if you two wanted to give it a shot during your stay
I haven't tried it but it looks pretty good
can you please make it a day earlier?
I think the 17th was a day some of us were unavailable (me included)
are you meeting up some other day some where?
On the 17th or in general?
whats the final plan for shisha?
in general any other day
As of now I haven't set up a day to meet with anyone else in Tokyo at least. I know I already have a dinner reso on the 17th and the 15th, but nothing set in stone on the 13th, 14th, or 16th
where are you eating at 17th, I might get an idea for reso
I should point out I don't eat exclusively halal, so I can't guarantee the place I'm eating at will be halah. However, there is a halal ramen place near my hostel that I can get the name of for you
halal*
because I'm pretty sure my spot on the 17th is not halal
https://maps.app.goo.gl/tCfTZyYYUG64YHTu7 @onyx ridge
anyways I would really to meet SOMEONE, as I like interacting with people.
Once i have my scheduled narrowed down a bit more, I might be around to meet up
I think on the 15th was shisha planned right?
and going out on the 16th or something?
maybe I got the dates wrong now
On the excel it says hookah on the 15th and drinks at golden gai on the 17th it looks like
Where's the excel again?
#1173234572431999099 message
Tyty
I'll bring up Golden Gai Again on the 17th as we planned it early this year and there's quite a few new additions to this chat
I'm considering joining but am not much of a drinker, but besides my dinner reso, I have nothing going on and am already kind of around
Sure there'll be options for non drinkers
I have a feeling there's gonna be many impromptu golden Gai nights anyway, I plan on spending more than a few nights there chatting shit
Mocktails maybe
Yeah possibly, I'll keep you guys posted or might just text you guys after my dinner depending on how I'm feeling
my reso is like 10 min away from Golden Gai
No worries dude
Slightly off topic but I plan on bringing a few sweets, chocolates from the uk to japan as a gift for a dude I'm meeting I'm certain sweets and chocolate are OK to bring in however I plan to bring in pork scratchings are these OK to bring in
Ah nm
Meat ban 😂
interesting that there's a meat ban
I mean, I wonder how deeply they would check
but def one of those things you d at your own risk
Knowing my luck the 1/100 time they'll check it will be me
Sticking with haribo, chocolate and shortbread 😅
are we gonna go out after golden gai?
Isn't it just a street?
can we go for hookah after Golden gai, I am not in tokyo in 15th
I think so? we can surely look on the day itself aswell! 🙂
I thought it is also just a street, I meant going out as in going to a night club or something
I would love to explore the scene but I have honestly no idea
me too, I would love to visit a night club
I added some new functions, you can double click in the "Date" cell in the events-tab and a small calendar will pop-up, the meet-up dates are also sorted by order now so we don't loose the overview 🙂
dang, you're going to yoroniku, probably my favorite meal in japan, everyone i recommend it to loves it too
Club after golden Gai I reckon, then pull up in a karaoke room until the trains start up again at 5/6am 😊
And yes, it's a few "streets" which are actually private property with leases to business owners who own the bars
I'll be in Ikebukuro HUB on the 3rd from about midnight until close then bar hopping nearby if anyone is around
Hey guys ill be from the 15th-17th in tokyo would be nice to meet someone who would enjoy some halal japanese food with me
welcome! I actually suggested two halal places to @onyx ridge a little bit earlier today! I know he's also looking for Halal food 🙂
Also make sure to check out the excel sheet pinned in this chat. Some of us are meeting around the time you're there and everyone here seems pretty welcoming, so you should have no problem finding people to hang with!
I should have clicked the reply button ^
has the cherry blossom started yet?
@still rover if there is helal food id like to join the dinner on the 18th
there is halal food, but didn't you say you're in Tokyo only until the 17th? or am I mixing that up?
If you are around though, I'll def add you to the reso
thanks, i might stay longer in tokyo,
Hello friends! I will be arriving in KIX to start my trip on April 22nd and the next 3 days I will be in Kyoto! Afterwards, I'm still deciding on what to do but I'll be in the Osaka area!
Anyone up for some omakase sushi in Osaka on the 19th? Looking to make a reservation at https://r.gnavi.co.jp/8v502uee0000/
price range is 5800-7800 yen
what time were you thinking?
Probabaly early evening 5-7pm but open to time suggestions!
Do they make you pre-pay for the reso?
Nah, it's a nice no hassle just book time and party size
Count me in for now. I technically have a reso for that day and around that time but I'm going to see if I can get it moved to another
So I'll let you know asap
Awesome! will wait a bit and see if anyone else is interested too before booking
Sounds good. Also I'd prefer 5pm but am good if people wanted to do 7pm
Same here, will be my first night so expect I'll be tired but wanna have something planned to make sure I don't just go pass out at my hotel straight away and wake up at 2am or something silly!
Fair enough! I also wanna see if I have time to hit up Dotonbori or somewhere and try some street food LOL
or maybe I'll do the street food for lunch
I think that'll be my first stop for some takoyaki while I wait for hotel check in time!
def let me know if you find anything good. I have to stop at Kyoto first to check in to my hotel and drop my bags off, and then I'm heading straight to Osaka for the rest of the day
Actually could we potentially do 6 or 7pm? I might try to rearrange some days and need to see how this is going to work out
Yeah that's all good with me, the layer I can force myself to stay up first night less jet lagged I should be the next day 😅
Seems a bit backwards of staying in kyoto and going to Osaka. It is more expensive to stay in kyoto unless you have a good reason to stay there
Most of the days I'm spending are in Kyoto. Only going to Osaka for one day / maybe occasionally going if I want to walk around at night
I think trains stop running earlier in kyoto than Osaka too
Are you saying trains from Kyoto to Osaka or just trains in Kyoto in general ?
The latter
You'll have to look up the last train back to Kyoto plus whatever transit you need to get your hotel then time your time in osaka
Last train from Osaka to Kyoto is at around midnight, but I'd probably leave before then anyways since I'm an early morning person
And my hostel is luckily a 30 min walk from the station
The biggest hassle will be moving from Dotonbori to Shin Osaka
So if trains stop early in Kyoto, I can probably still comfortably walk back from the station
The reason I decided on Kyoto was because the idea of going from Osaka to Kyoto 3 times and then back again, so a total of 6 times seemed exhausting for me. Vs Osaka where I knew I'd probably only spend a day and maybe an evening there
just pick one
hey megan! can i dm you? was looking at the excel and our travel dates overlap!
sent you a dm 🙂
I'm gonna be back in Tokyo for a few days, tomorrow til April 4. Anyone want to meet up somewhere?
wheres the excel sheet?

would anyone be interested to do a half-day of shopping with me? I found some malls that focus on beauty/skincare and would love to explore those 🤭
Any early April people here. Starts tomorrow. I’ll be here April 1-9
Will most likely just be doing Sakura viewings where ever it’s good
Landing Wednesday night 🙂
I'll be arriving on the 6th in Tokyo. I'll be a bit jetlagged so the first few days doing chill things like looking around would be nice!
Sick man, cheers for letting me know. Will look into booking shortly

Any music meetups happening between 21st and 25th in Tokyo?
(im a bassist, play in a vgm orchestra, and love most genres!)

Met some folks on here a few months ago, looking to meet others. Here’s my post from Reddit
Hey there!
Late 30s male from the California, will be visiting Japan again this year and will have my two cousins with me (mid to late 30s). Have used this thread and the discord before and have met some pretty cool people. We're all into anime, video games, hanging out, have drinks, trying new things to eat/eating good food, meeting new people and whatevers fun! This will be their first trip, so I've made an itenary for them with what they want to see. Besides the dates and locations, we're open to change what we have planned to meet up!
8th-11th - Tokyo
11th-15th - Osaka
15th -18th - Kyoto
18th-22th - Tokyo
LOL no worries, it made more sense for me to change my plans around that day so it worked out
But I'm not in Osaka at that time so it's gonna have to be all you
I get in on the 6th 🙂
Phew, glad I haven't fucked you. Had a massive panic when I thought I may have booked hotels the wrong week but luckily it was just the planned day for sushi I messed up 😅
Hey, I sync up with you guys on the 14th and 15th in Osaka, down for some food and drinks!
yeah no man you're all good, it made sense for me to change plans. But yeah if you're considering doing Omakase in Kyoto instead on that day (19th), let me know!
That's an idea, I'll look into some places and let you know!
Sounds good and no worries if it doesn't work!
Hey guys please let me know if you add yourself / add someone to that dinner on the 18th. More people isn't a problem with me, the more the merrier, but I just need to know so I can remember to ask the restaurant to increase the number (and whether we can go past 10 people in the first place
Arriving in Osaka tomorrow
@onyx ridge hey I saw u added urself to the Ebisu yoroniku event in the spreadsheet, just wanted to let u know I only reserved for 3 and I can't modify the reservation either :/
If anyone wants to link up
yeah in support of this, those kind of resos are really hard to change and add people for because of how quickly they sell out
do you mean this place https://maps.app.goo.gl/RpGBLnF1CmeddGNq7
I think it was Arca that made that reso, unless I'm missing something here
there might still be openings for 10pm on other days but you'll probably need 3 people or more again
they don't seem to take solo diners
and all the 2 people slots seem to be booked
How much was it again?
22k yen I believe
it's 14400 yen per person
oh nm
