Hey everyone! As you might already know, the mayor of Shibuya has basically said "Don't come" on Halloween, not that it is going to really stop anyone. I expect that the crossing will still be packed on the 31st, and it shouldn't be missed.

Every year, I throw a Halloween party in Asakusa. If Halloween doesn't happen to fall on a weekend (It is a Tuesday this year), then I typically push it back a few days. This year I am planning to hold the party on Saturday, October 28th.

A lot of my Japanese friends and other expatriates are really busy with work this time of year, so celebrating Halloween on the weekend is preferred. I hold my party at the same venue every year, just across the river from Asakusa.

Last year, we had about 50 people throughout the night for the event. If you want to join a low-key Halloween party and connect with some locals, so come on over. Costume or not, please feel free to join us for drinks and socializing.

There is no entrance fee or designated starting time for the party. We will get things going around 7PM, and we will finish up around 11PM. Those who are keen on partying longer can feel free to join us on an informal bar tour of Asakusa to follow.

The venue for the Halloween event is "Asakusa Smile Bar and Cafe". It is conveniently located next to the Asahi Beer HQ building (directly to the right of it) and two minutes away from Asakusa across the Sumida river. Please feel free to join us in Asakusa after the party for an informal tour and some bar hopping!

I'm glad to know that my small SEO efforts are finally bearing fruit, thanks for telling me. Between here, Couchsurfing events, Facebook, and Eventbrite it looks like there might be a pretty sizeable turnout this year.

Nope! Just feel free to show up whenever you like. Smile will be open from 5PM, but we'll probably get going around 7PM. Eventbrite has a limit of 25 people for free event advertisements, so that's the only reason why there is a limit specified. The shop can accommodate many people.

I could imagine Asakusa becoming a cool location for a replacement to Shibuya. Maybe I need to find a kappa costume or some sort of youkai look and show up to this.

After some thought I think this might be a nice alternative to the Shibuya downer this year. From what I recall of 2019 there is also a healthy street drinking scene along the Sumidagawa during most event or public holiday weekends.
