If you trigger the duration extension while you are at the maximum duration the maximum duration extension is reduced. Ie if you continuously fire the Wrangler you will receive a total duration of 70s
for Hunter's Mark, but if you stutter fire such that the timer never hits 45s you will receive a total duration of 97 seconds. It would also be appreciated if the reduction in effect was reflected in the tooltip

Hiccup251: Some testing results on hunter prime:
Hunter's focus + Wrangler (deals exactly the base damage needed to trigger prime once)
initial proc appears to be 3.5s as advertised
was able to achieve 97s total duration (25s base, so +72s from prime) when ensuring the duration refresh never capped
around 25 procs in, proc is granting less than 1s duration (loose threshold, don't put too much stock into the 25 value).
around 40 procs in, proc is granting negligible (if any) duration (once again loose threshold)
no math done, but on its face the reduction to duration gained per proc may be slightly nonlinear (more shots to go from <1s to negligible than to go from 3.5s to 2.5s, I think), but a linear approximation wouldn't be far off even if it's nonlinear under the hood.
procs that would overcap duration still reduce proc efficiency, seems to be by the same amount (~40 shots to reach negligible gain even when 28 of those were overcapping)
results were similar with hunter's mark, no reason to believe it behaves differently by skill
