Since patch I am unable to access nor host any multiplayer session while launching the game on Steam. My guess is that this is related to Epic games forcing account linking, since my friend didn't have same browser popup, and is able to host/join games.

My friend that is receiving the epic account linking pop up can play multiplayer. Me otherwise isnt getting the popup and i cant join or host any multiplayer session.
In the menu the config is set to "Friend only", when i start the game and check the settings, the multiplayer gets deactivated. If i try to change it to anything else the game kicks me to the menu.

Account linking is not required.
There should be a pop-up when you sign in and you can opt out are you not seeing that?

There is no popup for me. I can see the button (press F to liink to epic) and it open in the browser if a press it. But the popup asking to link when the game start isnt happening for me.
My friend, that isnt having any problem, is receiving this popup

Some additional information. The popup for linking Epic Games also fails to actually sign in if I do attempt.
It only goes to the character select after 20 seconds or after a timeout period.
Launching the game with internet disabled DOES NOT avoid this timeout period of the game attempting to contact epic servers.

I just joined this discord to see if someone else was having the issue, I also cant play multiplayer, As soon as I open the game a tab opens on google chrome to create an epic games account and link steam to it, If I enable multiplayer on a session the game reloads and puts me offline again
Also for some reason, the popup only lets me create an account, not login, and since I already have an account linked I cant (more like dont want to) link it to a new account

I have the exact same issue. It started when I was playing online and the game just crashed. It would not even load the game until I found a post here about restoring save files. After following the steps I can play the character offline. Linking an Epic Account does not help.

Just tried it and it doesnt work, whenever I put it on friends only or public, the game just goes to the main menu and stays offline even if I click on the network settings on the main menu

I did not, nor ever see a pop up for any alternative. Nor have I ever linked an epic games account in the past. Some further debug steps I tried/info that may be helpful.
Some other information that may be helpful. When game launches it opens a link: "https://epicgames.com/id/activate?userCode=KJBLDTFP", this link is an instant redirect towards "https://www.epicgames.com/id/login/headless?user_code=WXCSWRFQ&client_id=xyza7891A4LinhCdCnvcv5TOXU6M7RSp&scope=basic_profile friends_list openid presence&continuation=0dbd198b9ff64aa39dcc7a1c024508af&hide[0]=steam"

so how exactly is the problem manifesting for you? Is it switching it to offline from friends/public setting when attempting to start?

When game launches, instead of loading normally it seems to hit a timeout period of waiting for auth from epic servers. After a short-ish period I am able to go to the character select screen. On the screen I can select between public -> friends only -> etc. However regardless of which one I have selected the game will load in as OFFLINE.
Once in game if I go to the escape menu it shows as offline, and when attempting to switch to either friends only or online the screen will go black and place me back on the main menu.
Attempting to join a friends game through steam, either from the main menu character select, or from in game does not work. Specifically no action happens when pressing the join friend button in steam overlay.
Additionally I cannot invite friends to my game
Some more information I just gathered. I believe this may have to do with the account state of myself and others with the issue. I just installed the game on a second computer I have and am encountering the exact same bug. It may be due to the fact that at some point steam has linked to an epic games account I have, most likely because iirc it was forced by another game (Rocket League) at some point
Also I just timed this 3 times. The initial load timeout will consistently wait 35 seconds on this screen before preceeding.

Made sure to sign in to epic games in browser to make my browser cache store my logon information. The popup is still only to Create a New Account with no way to sign in.
@split fossil I did manage to fix it.
After I did manually install the epic launcher I got the popup to link my game. After clicking Cancel (Because I don't wish to link accounts) the game loaded and behaved normally.
Although my game is now working, I feel like it should not be necessary to have epic online services installed separately. So I wonder still if something else is going on?

also, you said you never linked your account but said maybe you did for rocket league, did you unlick it after rocket league at some point? Have you logged into your epic account to see?

Yeah wasn't too clear. I had never linked epic in relation to Remnant, but you are correct that I did not unlink after something like rocket league.

yes... Previous to the update my game would load very quickly.. now the rem logo is there for the 30 secs or so.. and then logging into my save takes a couple mins now as before it was immediate

this is only affecting a small amount of users and it's something we can't replicate internally, Blackcloud mentioned installing the epic launcher then starting the game and canceling out of the link accounts dialogue allowed them to get into the game and play as normal. Not saying this is a long term solution but it would go a long way to tracking down the issue. If some folks would be willing to try that, it'd be appreciated

Update: I installed epic launcher.. linked my account to Remant 2... and now my friend and I can play with each other again.. Super unhappy about having to install and log into epic for a game I have and purchased thru steam. My friend and I do not want to be linked to epic. Unlinking from what i have read here today could cause the game to be unplayable for us. My feelings aside about epic in general. We are now able to play co-op again. Also, we are still using the invite thru steam so not sure why epic needs to be involvoed at all in the game I purchased in steam. Now it works BUT again we both had to login and link our epic accounts to Remnant 2 in order to play anything other than offline. Not cool. As many people wont actually come here to discord or submit tickets, I'm sure there is probably a much larger group of affected players than what u see of ones who are reporting or looking for solutions. I truly love this game so I will endure for now. Just stating my position, hope this helps.. I will follow for updates tho, thank you for your time and help.

No, for some reason on the web browser it only shows " create a new account" no sign in, no cancel option, and I think the issue with my steam account is that I linked it years ago to an epic accoount which I no longer have access to
So the game on steam doesnt let me play online if i dont link it to epic
But i cant link to a new account since I linked it to an email I can no longer use years ago

I dont understand why to begin with you need an epic games linked account when the game was bought through steam. This issue was nowhere to be found before the patch.

To be clear, the intent is not that you are required that you link your account or have epic launcher installed. That does seem to be a work around for now, but is not the long term solution.

i was looking for it. and it never gave me that option. opened google once with the page and never did it again, and it only gave the option to log in.
and suddenly it worked last night again after restarting game multiple times and traveling back and forward between the ward and last visited checkpoint a cauple of times.
Today it was different. didnt work at all. and it actually showed playing online with friends. it didnt yesterday. But invite that i sent to my friend didnt work. Nothing happent when clicking on it.
Then we both tried install epiq luncher and i linked it from inside the game. And now it seems to work fine.
Many peaple that i know and playing with, hate epiq. and refuse to do what i did. Its not cool, really hope u guys find a solution. Everybody i know that bought the game in steam have the issue, like i did, or like Princess meatball describe.
Also I had 2 unreal crashes yesterday when it didnt work. forgot to mentioen that.
By the way my Epiq was already linked, i had to relink it to make it work.

Reading the comments here. I managed to get online by clicking on "cancel" in the tab on browser asking for the link. If i just close that tab i cant go online, but cancelling it worked.

Friend had this happen and he was able to resolve this by logging into epic rather than closing it but needs both open it seems to run the game online

Had the same issue. Solved it now by removing Steam from "Apps and accounts" in Epic Games "Account" settings

I can't even log into Epic Games right now to try removing steam to check because their login page is the create account page. I'd really rather avoid downloading a launcher I'm never going to use. Also to clarify, I was able to play with friends last night just fine.

So this is interesting. The window that remnant brings up in your browser on start up seems to make it so that the Epic Games login page redirects to that page no matter what even from it's own website. When I had a fresh cache the Epic Games login page was fine but as soon as I started up the game I could no longer reach that login page 🤔

The issue is that it’s trying to log players into EOS and seeing you have an account, but there’s something wrong. Exactly what’s wrong, we're not 100% sure. We’ve unlinked our accounts and still don’t get the problem, we’ve never been able to dupe the problem internally. But, that’s why it pops up the window, it’s trying to notify you about something and failing.
That said, the work around until we are able to address it is to link your account and install the epic launcher or unlink your account and uninstall the launcher. Something is out of sorts with EOS.
I would appreciate if folks who are having this issue would reply with the video card they are using, attempting to chase down something with this issue currently.

I'm using a RTX 2070 Super. I was able to get it to work using the work around. I installed the launcher and logged in to try and link or unlink my Steam account and found it was never linked and when I tried to link it told me my Steam was already linked to another Epic Games account which it never was. I ended up having to log into the Epic Games launcher through Steam which then created a new account Epic Games account for me that was linked to my Steam. When launching the game after this the window that popped up in the browser changed asking me if I wanted to link my accounts which I accepted and the problem has been solved since.

I'm using a 6700XT. The workaround isn't working for me. My newly created epic account was never linked with my steam, and when trying to simply bypass the Link Epic account option, I still can't play online.
It's not crashing constantly now, but I still can't play online. Each time I select "Public" I am brought back to the main menu.

yes, but steam thinks you do have one. If you login in with your steam account, it should show you the epic account you are linked to

my GF still has that problem. she already unlinked her epic account from steam and that fixed the problem for one day. today she got it again. she actually never gets the pop up on start (which i always do)

Hey. Another person with this exact same issue. On Steam PC, with Epic not having been isntalled for years.
I basically...Froze while playing with a friend, and he kicked me as I force-closed the game. And since then I've had this same exact issue.
Unsure if or what of all that might've caused it, but just details I noticed and rember that happened RIGHT before the issue happened on my end.
