Sounds like knock to me
@flint geode this is your field of expertise
Yeah its over
Rod knock
holy shit i was expecting like a small tapping or something
Nah that shits done for
No that bitch is slappin 😭
jone im sorry bro that fucking sucks😟
Its consistent tho rod knock is more like thuds no?
How long has it been knocking for
No that is 100% rod knock
Starting off sure, but the longer it goes on the worse it gets
I've got an exact example for you
Just started has been off the road since it was first heard
if it was a chevy thats somewhat fixable but in a japanese motor its over
Exact same engine if yours is a 3sge
Sound of doom and despair
Be ready for new car, new engine, or rebuild your engine. Don't fuckin crank it anymore if you want a chance at rebuilding it
This sounds almost the same and its likely the same motor
3sge's love to spin bearings, so does the 5s
I cant lie maybe i got bad ears but that sounds so much deeper and heavier like metal, and it doesnt go away after a couple seconds
Sounds a little different because the engine bay is open in your video but closed in his video
It will have a torched crank already
And mine doesnt increase like pitch when you rev its consistent
Does it speed up with revs
Not pitch, just speed
The second video shows reving
Well done cooked
What I'm sure is happening is that it has bad bearings but still has oil pressure
There's a very easy way to check
Drain the oil and cut the filter
As it does stop likely when it's at oil pressure but this will get worse and worse as it goes on
I've owned 3 personally btw
I bet that filter will be glittery as hell
Is there no other way to know? I havnt bought the car yet i was about to pick it up this weekend, it was really cheap so i wanted to fix it up as a project but if it needs a whole new engine it would probably be out of budget
Basically oil pressure is rising to fill the gaps in it
An oil change is the cheapest way
It's probably too early for a compression test
Could look for a junkyard motor, if it's na they are mostly cheap
Do you know how much a full rebuild would cost for these?
3sge/3sfe is like under 500 USD (I don't live in America but it's an economy motor) used
But full rebuild is like 8k
Id just turbo swap atp
I 3sgte swapped mine but the motor isn't rebuilt yet, was about 1.5k USD if I convert
Its uk
GG @tardy root, you just advanced to level 2! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Parts are plentiful then
Northern ireland tho? Or does the shipping not matter much
And it'll be a ge
Probably would be in your best interest to drive to pick up a new motor
Shipping is pre costly
Okay and how much would it cost for someone to do the swap? I dont have a engine crane or whatever its called, other than that im decent with mechanicing i do motorsport
Labor would be thousands possibly
Fixing it yourself is the only way it's worth it
I can't confirm for UK but it's thousands in most countries
In the end it's up to you
Yea id do that then
If i can find a cheap enough engine close enough for it to be worth it
Thanks for the help
It's a lot of work and you'd also want the car to be rust free
If it's a super rusty car I'd steer clear
Depends on how far you want to go
Yea the main reason i didnt mind working with the engine is its shell is in really good condition barely any rust and its only 40k miles compared to much higher for much more expensive im seeing
Pretty much this especially since this is MR. Not a lot of room, axles in the way, etc etc
Just know you need a crane or hoist, this engine comes out the bottom exclusively and then you drop the car on top of it.
Everything has to come out
Subframe, everything
