I’m troubleshooting a no-crank issue on my 2010 Acura RDX and wanted to see if anyone has ideas. The engine won’t crank at all when I turn the key — it doesn’t even try to turn over.

Here’s everything I’ve checked so far:

• Battery voltage:

12.47 V with the car off

When attempting to start, voltage only drops to about 11.9–11.7 V

• Starter:

I removed the starter and took it to AutoZone for their bench test

It passed the starter test

Reinstalled it and the car still won’t crank

• Starter wiring:

The large battery cable is connected to the starter terminal (with the nut)

The small signal connector is also plugged in

• Starter signal test:

I unplugged the signal connector and tested it with a multimeter

Black probe on engine ground, red probe inside the connector

When someone turns the key to try and start the car I get about 11.8 V

• Fuses:

Checked all relevant fuses in the fuse box and they are good

• Neutral safety switch:

Tried starting the car in both Park and Neutral multiple times

Current symptoms:

When turning the key, nothing happens — no crank at all, dash lights and all other lights do come on like normal though.

Since the starter passed a bench test and the signal wire is getting ~12 V when the key is turned, I’m not sure what the next step should be.

If anyone has suggestions for what to test next, I’d really appreciate it.

Anything happen between last time it ran and when this started? Did the vehicle sit for a while? Just one day it worked and next day it didn’t?

#

Good troubleshooting by the way. If you haven’t yet, follow your ground cables too.

I mean it got an oil change like two days before this happened but that’s irrelevant

Follow your negative ground cable and make sure that’s secured and not compromised

Could be relay or an open on an in-line harness

#

You could switch around (relay 3) -Starter cut 2 and (relay 1)- power window and crank to see if its the relay.

#

If the relay doesnt click you could momentarily bypass it by injecting 12v+ to the Component side of the starter solenoid to either to know if all the way to where that relay is to the starter is good. Or some kind of input isnt allowing the starter to rotate

#

Take it to a tech who knows what they are doing.

@fringe wigeon I found the issue can’t believe it I finally did it lol. I connected jumper cables from my negative battery terminal to my transmission case and it’s starting now lol

Nice find! Next step may be to find the grounding cable that should be connecting your drivetrain to the negative battery terminal

Both

Doesn’t make sense to me why it’s starting with no issues now without the jumper cables
