I have a 2003 cadillac cts and I was just on a long highway drive, I got off the highway went to a parking lot and parked my car. After sitting there for five minutes I went to another parking lot to meet with a friend, I got to my parking spot drove up to it, put my car into reverse backed into my spot, and then the shift knob would not go into park, then I tried to pull it back into drive and the shift knob locked and I couldnt move it at all (it was still in reverse) I then smacked the shifter forward and it went into park, when I tried putting it back into any of the gears you can hear a loud almost metal clunk sound, there is ALOT of play with the shift knob no matter what position or gear its in, and it seems the shifter is positioned as if all the gears a back 1 position, so reverse is park, neutral is reverse, drive is neutral, so on so forth (this is all shift knob position wise) but it still shifts gears normally, so when the light is on reverse it still goes into reverse but the shift knob is wrong. I took off the shift knob and the plastic on the center console and saw a shifter setup ive never seen on any of the cars I've ever worked on, and there's no videos online about it whatsoever, the transmission works as it normally does and the car drives normally, the only issue is the shift knob not moving how it should, having way too much play, and making a loud metal like sound when moving, should I take apart my entire center console and try to take it apart and see what's wrong or should I go to a transmission shop (i have no images of the shifter setup at this time)

This is the best pic I could find online until I go out to my car again in the morning
