#2018 Lincoln MKZ hybrid radiator problem

The radiator hose is important because it’s a single-point failure that can shut the car down suddenly. If it bursts, hot coolant can dump out in seconds, causing the engine to overheat and, on a hybrid, potentially trigger the system to shut the whole car off. When a hose feels “spongy,” it usually means the rubber is breaking down internally, even if the outside looks fine, which makes sudden failure more likely. Since the hose is relatively cheap compared to the cost of a tow or engine damage, replacing it is mainly about preventing a breakdown, not improving performance.
