Lots of things could've going wrong

You can sand down the terminal if you want

Imo terminal doesn't look that bad

Terminal looks fine, check voltage with its rating (usually 12v), if it's significantly lower then bad battery, if not then likely a bigger issue

I don't see any cotton candy, no corrosion

There is some surface rust but nothing a wire brush can’t take care of

Shouldn’t stop you from starting the car though.

After you get it cleaned up, I recommend you use this.
