#NEW window regulator not raising window?

Hi

I got a BMW E88 123d Pre-Facelift, N47 Engine if it matters.

My old window regulator on passenger side suddenly died, the rope had burst. Got a mechanic, who I will never hire again, to change it. He installed the new one, but the window now produces a scraping type noise and only raises the window approx 2 inches/5cm before it completely stops.

Kinda clueless what to do at this point, since mechanic fucked off bc I refused to pay him for a job not finished.

Thanks.

EDIT: He manually moved the height of the clamps to insert the window before testing. Are the distances/relative heights of both sides super important to assure proper function? To me logically it'd seem it could misalign and create more tension on the rope that way. If so, how fix? lol

Are you able to detach the window from the clamps to ensure it can raise and lower correctly?

Cool. I’m kinda guessing a bit here as I’ve never worked on an e88, just trying to reason through what it could be. Something impeding the window is my first guess, and then with the glass all the way up I think you should be able to test the full range of motion of the regulator without the window attached to confirm it has all the travel it needs

Thought misalignment could be a thing since the „mechanic“ moved it by hand

@lavish bronze make sure nothing is catching on the window or regulator because I had that happen on my e82 when I replaced the lock actuator

And somehow the rope in the new regulator also wrapped itself up badly. How the fuck does that happen on a new part? Funnily enough that was the issue w my previous one

Ah, unfortunately that tracks with the suspicion above about it getting moved by hand. Hopefully there’s at least a warranty on the part?

Im trying but if not it seems the false choice in mechanic screwed me. I’m not sure I’ll try a return

This is the current state of the new part

#

I doubt they’ll allow me a return if they can prove it was an installation error

If the window is binding the actuator might still want to continue hence why it balled up on you like it did

I mean the whole part came as one

Without the rotor motor
