Hey guys I’m tryna find the misfire in my 800 dollar shitbox 2010 bmw 528xi. So far I’ve pulled the spark plug and it looks like this. I’ve also swapped the fuel injectors what else can I check?

I have a valve cover gasket leak but that will be fixed for free by bmw due to a vanos bolt recall

you can try swapping the coil for the cylinder 5 coil to see if the misfire moves.

And don’t forget to clear codes when you move the coil to see if it comes back on same cylinder. Assuming you did that when you moved the injector

I switched the ignition coils before I pulled the plug the misfire didn’t disappear, if I don’t clear the code would it keep misfiring

#

I’m picking up the spark plug in about an hour

#

I havnt turned on the car since I pulled the plug and switched the fuel injectors

Ok I switched the spark plug, the injectors, ignition coils. It’s still misfiring same cylinder

Time for a compression test

Is there any specific kits I get?

You might be able to rent one from a local auto parts store, if not a harbor freight one should do just fine as You’re not looking for super precise measurement just to see if they’re all roughly equal.

oh ok bet

#

lets say if the compression is good, what else could be the issue

or it could be carbon buildup on the valves

you can remove the plug an coil and ground the spark plug to the valve cover then start the car for a sec to look good spark.

#

be careful not to zap yourself

#

that'll wake you up

what if i put cylinder 5's wire into cylinder 6 and cylinder 6's wire into 5

steady flax
#

then it will misfire on both

#

the coils power is delivered by the ECM

crystal dagger
#

ohh ok

#

so when you say ground to the valve cover, i put the thread in a way where it touches any part of the of the valve cover

the little arm at the end on the plug is the ground strap
