Those are easy to remove a lot of wd40 and they slide off .. easy to replace and very little you can do wrong
GG @lofty mesa, you just advanced to level 10! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Those are held on by cheap af electric clips
Like these (top row )
Once you remove them you’ll need a screw driver and maybe a small hammer to tap the cap off
Ok perfect, so i should just nuke it with wd 40
That or if your buying a new pump and whole unit cut em and get the new connectors they are cheap and can’t go wrong honestly.. if it’s wired wrong it won’t work just swap them around and your all good. Both sides are the same connector the wires are probably different colours so take pics and it’s easy af. Need wire cutters and pliers to attach the new end
Actually
Let me check if the new pump has the wires lol
Because that would be sweet
Or before you cut em label them top and bottom
Ye ye
The new pump won’t have the wires
They are part of the cars loom
Thankfully older cars like yours are easy and have wires and no stupid computers You might blow a fuse is all and that’s nothing
Personally I’d label them as they are (left/right) and cut/rewire remove the rust
So just cut it probably?
Yep those are perfect cut one replace amd then the next and you won’t have any issues
Although if you’re doing a pump replace just do it and figure it out .. if you don’t get fuel they are wrong way round
Honestly don’t think to much into it your car was made with simple technology a lot of my old Minis just needed the basic shit to keep going and couldn’t kill em
A hammer was great
Hammer go bonk
lol it works a lot of the time
So i don't forget
Fuel filter, new line
Fuel pump, don't be afraid to nuke wires
Check tank for rust, and the lines you can look at with a boroscope
Check oil, check coolent, check coolent Hoses for cracks or etc,
, check carb if possible with horoscope,
Double check for missing to do items, start car maybe, or tow it to local car wash, put up on blocks and begin the funny
personally I’d pull the carbs off and rebuild as easy todo rest is easy basic checks
Can buy a rebuild kit for a few quid online for a lot of makes
Never had to use a borowscope older engines tell you what’s wrong if you listen and understand them
Fuel filter and oil should be changed a lot if you have issues and inexpensive easy way to find out if you have a bearing gone (metals flakes or trash in the filters )
Fuel tank checks when you take the old pump out is a given and no need for a scope a flash light and your eye is good enough
Rest is as you should check most days
All depends how bad it is under the bonnet and its life .. anything could happen
Just hit me as I was trying to sleep .. those 2 wires are just for the fuel sensor you have a mechanical pump not electric cut em it’ll make no change
Your kidding lmao
Even for the new one?
Wait no thats dumb lol
The new pump btw
Hmm might be an electric pump then Tbh it’s easy to rewire if it is maybe 5 mins
Just looked it’s not It’s a mechanical pump so that’s just a filter and sensor
that's not a plane
This is so confusing
So the fuel line has 2 filters?
I mean
Eather way I gotta remove it to check for rust
So I'll see
Are you sure you’ve got the right part as most I can find are this single unit which looks like what is in your tank already
Thats the fuel sending unit I found
There is a separate pump under the car
Also @lofty mesa @scarlet hinge
Ohhh nice bit of sediment Although not that bad for age of the car
Ima just re do the whole fuel system
Yes
Pull the gas tank and restore it
I've been told it has a leak, so I'm probably just going to buy a new one
If new ones are avaliable do that
bunch of rust fell out while doing undercrages
thank you!
I had a e21 for a while but got rid of it
tragidy

as for everything else! I use 2002faq to learn more about my m10b18 and in general the 2002/e21/84-85 318i: https://www.bmw2002faq.com/articles/technical-articles/engine-and-drivetrain/
I look forward to seeing it drive for the first time.
We did run it! , literally was on route to road, but the break line exploded
I wanna get it to one car show before winter then we will do some bigger overhauls
Awesome to hear that!
She'll definitely need brakes from what you're saying
Got new pads and rotars
New powder coated drums, new shoes
And full break line kit
One thing you don't cheap out on is brakes lol
True! Hopefully suspension is next up during the winter
And body, hopefully on the road by this weekend?
