Hey guys,
So my dumbass sucks at DYI stuff and I bought this Dashcam and a power adapter to piggyback the power connection from the Rearview Mirror. Anyways, I connected it as instructed but I feel like I messed up something because now I get this error and it won't go away. I ran my FIXD OBD sensor and it doesn't detect the error.
I read online that I might have messed up the gel in the sensor of the rearview mirror, not sure though. I wanted to get some second opinion before I head to the dealer and get completely btt fcked by their pricing.

#

My power is fine, 5 V of power drawn to 0.5ish Amps to the Dashcam

#

so I don't think it is drawing too much power or anything of the sorts. Could be wrong

#

I think I might have fucked up a sensor or something

#

Would appreciate any tips or info that could be of help

Interesting. This does indeed point to the IR sensor.
With any type of movement of that sensor, it will generate this fault.
Grasping at straws, the only other possibility could be voltage drop, but not at the top of my list.
Do you feel you tugged on the sensor at all during your install?

So there’s two sensors, I’ll send the pic

#

Ignore the yellow line

#

So I unplugged the red one to place the piggyback power adapter, I did check however that the black one was still plugged in before closing the casing

#

Not sure what exactly I could’ve messed up there

#

I don’t even mess with the output wiring at all, it’s really just a plug in

#

You plug in the V connector back

#

Here it says 0 amps output because the dashcam isn’t connect but it’s getting 5V (4.99)

#

Also… the garage opener buttons do work still

#

So the power is still going through fine to the rearview mirror

I'm sorry to say, but I too suspect you have allowed an air gap to form between the sensors and the glass itself.
If they are getting proper power and ground, that is about the only thing than can cause this, especially since you yourself have identified it occurred after you worked in that area.
Since the rain sensor requires the exterior side of the glass to be clean, be sure to clean it as part of your testing.

Got it. I’ll give it a clean. How would I create this air gap just to get a better understanding

#

Can I remove this air gap myself?

#

If not how much should I expect to be spending at the dealership? My car is under warranty but I doubt this will be covered as it was completely my doing

Creating an air gap? Probably by putting downward force on the sensors themselves, pulling them away from the glass. It only takes hundredths of a millimeter to disable the system.
I'd probably save a few buck, and take it to a windshield replacement center, as they deal with these sensors daily.

Gotcha, appreciate the help sir.

#

I’ll see how the car awakes tomorrow after leaving the sensors resting overnight

To all that are curious. I am proud to announce that I am a dumb fck and thought I had inserted the three pin power back in fully but it wasn’t. When I reopened the case today it was loose and disconnected. I have reconnected it fully and the issue disappeared.

With this being said I apologize for the waste of time I have consumed and I will aim to be a better idiot next time.
