So I want to install a new (aftermarket) stereo but im a complete beginner to be fair. Im trying to find an adapter so I dont have to cut off the wires of the original plug. The problem is that I cant find an adapter.

I'll leave some pictures here, hopefully I can get some help.🙌

What year is the Lupo?

That’s weird though - the plugs don’t appear to match

#

The white plug goes into your stereo, yeah?

#

Any car stereo shop where you are that can help?

neat adder
#

its really weird, I'll probably have to wire them myself ig

#

But the colors of the wires dont match too so im really confused

indigo palm
#

Hang on don’t do that

#

What region are you, or at least what region was the car from?

Theres a popular store here that sells all sorts of car parts called "Auto 5" but I couldnt find the adapter

Cool! I translated their website and couldn’t find any harnesses that appear to be specific to the Lupo. Any chance you can visit the store and talk to a person? I’m unfamiliar with the European connectors but I’ll be very surprised if there isn’t a harness for a few quid that just plugs in.

I asked one of the workers but they couldnt help me either because that was all they had. Its very weird and uncommon I think haha

The stereo that I want to connect is the JSD 520

@meager ivy any suggestions for VW Lupo radio wiring harness in Belgium? I’m out of my element for that side of the pond

neat adder
#

Totally understandable lol, i feel the same

#

Mechanical parts are more easy to understand for me

#

but the wiring just kills my braincells

#

Appreciate the help regardless tho

meager ivy
#

uhhh i’ll have to check what i had in my GTI when i had it

#

fairly certain i went with an alpine unit and found the harness off ebay or autodoc

neat adder
#

Take your time boss

neat adder
#

Okay so I think ive got something

meager ivy
#

yeah i couldn’t find what i had

neat adder
#

I removed the adapter of the previous stereo and found this

indigo palm
#

Now you’re in business - the link I had above may actually work

#

That’s the connector I was expecting to see haha

neat adder
#

Yeah its such a simple thing lol

Idk how I didnt find it earlier

neat adder
#

If I buy this one, and just wire the end of the cables to the one on the new stereo would it work too?

indigo palm
#

Either that or the first one I linked, both appear to have similar connectors but the first one includes an adapter for the antenna plug. However, take a closer look at the connector on the radio end, I can’t tell if that will plug into the back of your radio

#

Granted, maybe you skip the connector at the radio and and do as you described by matching wires from your harness with the white connector to the new harness that plugs into the car. that’s what I usually do, although they follow a standard color coding. You want to compare the colors on the harnesses in the links above with the ones on the harness in your hands and make sure they match.

neat adder
#

Alright, I think I'll do that since I cant really find a suiting adapter to plug into the new radio. But I got one more question: The holes where the pins go on the brown plug in my car are placed on a different place than on the big plug that goes into it

#

By the 'big plug' I mean the last link I sent, hope u get what I mean

indigo palm
#

Yep some of them are not commonly used or were used in the factory harness but not aftermarket. Not a huge concern

neat adder
#

Alright, I know enough for now. I kindly appreciate the help u offered!

Okay so, I bought the cable and wired it all up when I discovered that the plug of my aftermarket stereo only had 1 grey cable. The front right speaker didnt work as expected. So I removed the grey cable that I needed from the old plug and put it on the new one. The front right speaker worked, but the front left speaker suddenly stopped working. I officially dont know what to do now haha

indigo palm
#

Can you show a photo of how you have the harnesses connected?

neat adder
#

I apologize for the late reply

indigo palm
#

Ok no worries. So you should have eight speaker wires: white, gray, purple, and green, and each should have a second one with a black stripe. I assume you matched up all eight on both sides of the harness when you were splicing the wires together?

#

Ah, right - one of the harnesses only had one grey wire.

#

It looks like your stereo harness (with the white connector) has the gray/black wire but no gray wire, so you added the gray wire into it? And spliced that grey wire to the gray wire on the other harness?

neat adder
#

Thats correct

#

I mean, I didnt really fit it "tight" enough in the white connector

#

but it still works, its the left speaker now that wont work magically lol

#

because it worked before I put the gray wire in

indigo palm
#

Re-splice your connections for the left front speaker, it should be the white ones. May have accidentally undone one of them while you were working.

#

And double check both harnesses to make sure both white wires are fully seated in each harness

neat adder
#

Thats a good suggestion, I'll try that tomorrow but I have just one more question. Since the white connector had a free hole I just used the chance to put the gray wire in. But how do I know It's fitted well?

I mean it works so I guess that's the most important thing?

indigo palm
#

Yep, if it works I’d be inclined to leave it. Usually with those connectors they have a snap/release mechanism that you use a very small screwdriver to release and then they “click” ibto place on the new connector
