I currently am searching for new wheels, I like my current fitment and am trying to keep the same fitment but with different wheels ofc. The issue I am having is that the new wheels are .5in wider than the wheels I have now, making me a bit confused with offsets.

Current: 19 x 10 +5 offset
New: 19 x 10.5 +23 offset

From my knowledge half an inch wider wheel means +6.35mm added to the offset (If I am trying to keep same fitment). So for the new wheel 23 + 6.35= 29.35mm, So if I buy a 25mm spacer 29.35-25... I should end up with a +4.35 offset which is close enough to +5 for me. I wanted to know if my understanding was correct before I buy the wheels and spacers. Thank you!

You desire to make the distance from wheel face to mounting surface as equal as possible, let me try the math.

#

Current fitment has a 254mm wide wheel, so 127mm to the center, plus 5 offset meaning it’s 122mm from face to mounting surface

#

New fitment has a 266.7mm wide wheel, so 133.35 to the center, plus 23 offset so 110.35 from face to mounting surface.

#

I think you need 122-110.35 or 11.65mm spacers or as close as you can get

#

Adding that if you are using spacers, make sure they come with longer wheel studs, for safety.

@fleet jewel Thank you so much for the info! So we have the same idea and math, but I added the offset and you subtracted the offsets. The reason I added them was because I know the basic “less offset means wheel sticks out more.” So I was confused how the new wheel has less space between the face and mounting surface if it has more positive offset than my current wheel setup. From my knowledge the new wheels should have more space between the two because it has more positive offset, or am I getting confused about it all?

Great question! Less offset means wheel sticks out more which also means higher offset means wheel sticks out less. How much the wheel sticks out is a function of distance between face and mounting surface: wheel sticks out more means higher distance between face and mounting surface. So higher offset means lower distance between face and mounting surface (and importantly, this is why you’re adding a spacer, to increase the distance between face and mounting surface).

Although - maybe best check with the vendor beforehand
