If i had damage on my back bumper and then after a while someone hit me at the same place and it sort of unfolded the previous damage with additional damage, can a proffesional or a mechanic notice that there was previous damage or it is hard to differentiate between a previous hit and a current hit and if its easy to know, how does it work exactl

I’ve been hit in an area that was previously rusty, their insurance covered replacement of the panel anyways. Nobody was concerned about the condition of the existing panel.
