I am interested in buying this as my first car. Has anyone experienced any issues with them? (UK)

it's a Honda civic, they have very few problems in general and many people will tell you it's one of the best first cars.

I dont see alot of them so I was just curious

#

Thanks

#

Now for around the same price I have seen a VW Golf

Hondas are the most reliable. Best choice for a first car

Vws are nice but if you plan to keep the car for a long time, honda is your best bet. Vw is reliable, but honda ranks #1

#

If you plan to switch out the car within the next 3-5 years then theyre both fine

It's just the civic is insurance group 15 while the golf is group 12

#

So that's also what I'm taking into account

#

I'd keep the car for 5-6 years

#

I'll see if I can test drive both

Both cars should be fine then. Take into account the mileage and any past accidents on both if theyre used. I guess go for whichever makes more sense financially

My mate has a group 16 bmw and it costs him ~4.5k a year as a secondary driver

#

Yeah

#

Both look fun to drive 🤣

#

Thanks I'll try check them out in person

#
  • if anyone knows of any issues with the 1.0 TSI engine that would be great
#

And I've read somewhere that there's been some stuff about the timing belt needing to be replaced after 5 years

#

Other than that it seems solid

Hard yes for Honda

wouldn’t get the 1.0 TSI golfs, way too slow to merge into a motorway lmao

#

honda is cool tho

#

Hard no for vw

edgy parrot
#

the VW isn’t a bad car

#

it’s just that the honda is a better car for a first car

sorry, but little bit delusional vw mechanically is scary bad,and interior quality, amount of plastic in them is just too much.Plus the amount of "bad" aluminium and steel is high.If we are watching from engineer perspective its not good car, otherwise for regular guy who just want some type of transportation.(disclaimer: VW still better than nothing).

Wasnt trying to be rude ❤️

#

seems like you’ve bitten into the internets overall belief of the VW lmfao

any other people able to comment on the reliability of the Ford Focus 1.0T EcoBoost St-Line

#

horrible reliability, cars like to chew timing chains

#

from memory, ford offer a warranty on them but i’m pretty sure because of the age of that one, no warranty
