Recently, my brother's TSX has started to produce a grinding noise on the front left when he releases the brakes while the car is stopped, and at low speed ~5 mph, at highway speeds it apparently goes away. I'm fairly certain the backing plate of the pad needs lube and that would solve it, but just wanted to get additional opinions on what the problem might be. No vibration in the pedal or wheel, so I don't think it's rotor related, and it's only grinding, not squealing. I know it's not the pads since the were replaced around a month ago.

We really can’t speculate without seeing it, but grinding usually means metal to metal contact and were it not for the pads getting replaced so recently it would almost certainly have meant pads being completely worn,
That said, the speculation: something geometrically changed that resulted in a piece making contact with the rotating assembly that should not be making contact. Maybe one of the bolts came loose and the caliper is sitting funny, maybe a clip popped loose, but I’d expect that when you get the front end of the car in the air and get the wheels off, youll see something wrong when you inspect them.
Yeah, I’m taking a look later today, will send pictures asap
Know how many times I’ve hit the dust cover when doing brakes just enough that it slightly makes contact with the rotor. You can only hear it at low speeds and never at high. Bet it something so simple.
You guys will be fine one you look at it.
^^^^yup - this is a great call. Dust shield is a prime suspect
Alr thanks, will be sure to look out for that.
