My mom has a del sol that hasn't been used in about 6 years. She says it runs but I don't want to turn it on in case i might mess it up. Any things I should do before starting to prevent something bad happening?

Drain out all the old fuel, flush the fuel lines, get literally all of it out that you can.

Make sure the gas tank has no rust or debris in it, if it had fuel in it I wouldnt be surprised if your fuel pump has corrosion on the wires. (Denatured alcohol soak will clean it up)

Check fuses just to see if any are bad, only takes a few minutes and ended up being something I needed to do with my Capri that sat.

When you put new fuel in it, I would give it like 2 gallons of premium with a bottle of seafoam to get any carbon buildup out (seafoam works wonders, I trust it with my life)

Check your spark plugs, coolant, and oil. Wouldnt be a bad idea to just change all of them

Also check the air filter and any place a rodent could have built a nest
