You can tell the differences; did you see if they had an ASE Certification in their building?
ouch, i would try to go back to that shop and try to get your money back
Would go back and ask them if they can do a brake test, that's very dangerous for your mother's safety.

oh so it wasnt the actual cost of the shoddy repair?
aye, thats a lot for a brake replacement, i would totally go back and get it tested and see if you can get some sort of refund
i dont usually go to shops as im a mechanic myself, but it should be around 200-300$
it was just the two front pads right?
yeah that shouldve costed ya atleast 500
thats like 630$ before labour and taxes i assume
and was it a professional shop?
ah
that looks more normal for repairs these days, stuffs expensive. but ignoring that, i would definetly take it back to a shop to get them tested to see what is wrong with them.
its a certificate for professional shops
"The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is a professional certification group that certifies professionals and shops in the automotive repair and service industry in the United States and parts of Canada"

thats where the pad presses down on the rotor
if thats what youre talking about
thats how break pads work, the press down on the rotor to slow it down, the ring is just cause by all the friction
its like when you use an eraser on paper and it leaves that little trail sometimes
nope you dont need to worry about it
it might be the way the shop put them on too thats causing it on the back to show more.
ohhh okay
it still is what i said, but it is most likely caused by how they put them on
not likely
yes
that might be it, but i dont know if the pads the shop bought were the same model as the ones before
ah, there might be a difference but if she needs to use more power on the brakes to slow down its most likely how they were put back on,
there could be other issues but modern bmws are out of my expertise, id still bring it back to a shop to get it fixed
go to other shops, itl be cheaper
i dont know your financial situation though, if youre able to i would go to a dealer since they specialize in bmw, they just cost quite a bit more
