#2007 chevy trailblazer 4x4 (clicking when steering wheel is turned all the way)

Got this chevy back in march of last year, a whole list of problems came with it

Almost entire suspension is brand new now (front and back)
Rack and pinion is also brand new
All work was done at home

A click happens when the steering wheel is turned all the way left and right (only once though, and if I let it sit for a bit it'll happen again)

Thought it could be the rack and pinion being worn out, so we replaced it and click still happened. With the suspension being all new I cant think of anything else other than the alignment looking so far off that could cause it

The Left lower control arm on the front is pushed out while the right one is pushed in (the corresponding tie rod ends are also vastly different from one another)
before doing any work the original control arms and tie rod ends where pretty much the same on both sides, and it drove straight and without any drifting, then a bunch of noises happened and things broke so we replaced it all and now every alignment place we go too sets them so far off from what the original was

I've thought that it may be a bad front end alignment (I've taken it five times now)
All the times before make sense that is wasn't aligned cause the rear upper control arms where completely snaped in half (that was fixed before the most recent alignment)

The last front end alignment did not change a single thing with the way it drives (wheel is turned to about 11:00 when driving straight and it pulls to the right when letting go of the wheel)

I looked under and the car and the control arms look in the exact same spots as before and the threads on the tie rod ends also look the exact same as when I installed them before the alignment

(is that how the tie rod ends and control arms should be and could a bad front end alignment be causing a clicking when turning the wheel to its ends)

Does it click when it turns all the way while stationary or does it need to be in motion.

stationary

K not a cv then

#

Could be ur rack

tall laurel
#

I'm thinking maybe something is wrong with one of the parts, its all new (including cv and rack) might be faulty

boreal brook
#

Cv joints would be making clicking noises while in motion, and would be somewhat rhythmic

#

So it is probably rack

#

Can u record the noise?

tall laurel
#

yea, i did have that problem butt it is fixed, i dont think thats it, and i just replaced the rack on saturday

Yea, give me a minute, i gotta go record it

That is ur rack

#

Pretty sure

tall laurel
#

well shit

boreal brook
#

Or ur tie rods are messed

tall laurel
#

how would the tie rods have to be to be creating this sound

boreal brook
#

Seized

tall laurel
#

these are them currently

boreal brook
#

Did u check to make sure they were the right length

tall laurel
#

yes ive checked everything before i bought is to make sure it was factory specs and reinstalled everything back the exact same way it came out

#

and the rack came with the inner tie rods attached ( we made sure they where centered before hooking it up to the steering)

K, well it has to be with something from the knuckle to the rack. I don’t think it is anything with ur steering column.

Ok, I'm getting it up on a lift tomorrow, ill take a look at it and see if I cant figure anything out, if it is that, then that's good (annoying... but good), I may just have to send back the faulty part and get a new one, thanks a bunch

Np, I hope you find the problem

tall laurel
#

i hope i do too XD

Sounds like something is seized and is being forced to move. It seems you have done a really good inspection of everything underneath so it seems something not obvious.

tall laurel
#

inspection HA! I wish, no I replaced everything since everything was making noises, didnt even have to inspect to see half of it, im getting it on a lift tomorrow and hope to find something

@tall laurel did you check your strut bearing

#

I had the same issue, clicking when turning stationary and it turned out to be that.

tall laurel
#

both strut assemblies are completely new

elder shard
#

But sometimes the original strut bearing is used. I mean, I wouldn’t use the original one but some people do use it.

tall laurel
#

The 07 trailblazer doesn't have a strut bearing, the entire strut assembly is brand new though

Is it possible that one of your new components are defective?

#

You should get one of those car stethoscopes that Scotty Kilmer uses.

#

You could then isolate where the noise of coming from exactly and get a better idea. @tall laurel

tall laurel
#

i have reason to believe its the lower control arms, both of them are out way farther than they where when i got the vehicle, and each shock on the struts has a spot that looks like its making metal to metal contact

Camera won't focus but this is 2 photos of the same thing, it's just a rusted chip in the paint of the spring

tall laurel
#

I think something must be hitting it cause why else

boreal brook
#

@tall laurel I don’t think that is it. Get someone in ur car and get em to steer it while u are outside looking at the coil. If it was recent rubbing it would also be bare metal not rust. I don’t think it is the coil.

#

Like I said it is something between the rack and ur knuckle

It's been that way for about a month, it persisted after the rack change, I have to look at the steering column maybe?
