#Engine light came up after slamming gas pedal while going 60-70mph

I drive a Volvo S60 2014 and never seen the “check engine” light come up in 6-7 years of first getting the car.

Of course, like a knob-head, I wanted to see what would happen if I slammed the gas pedal while going 60-70mph on the freeway.

I kept speeding up, and then I got a warning message that said:

“Reduce Speed or Shift Up”

Of course, I saw the check engine light on, and slowed down. And, of course, my car started to vibrate while slowing down. Once I got to a consistent 50mph, I did not feel any more rumbling, and the check engine light went away.

The RPM is measured by x1000 (whatever that means I know it’s revolutions per minute or something) and normally it’s around 1-2 while on the freeway, but the RPM was around 3-4.

I never drive like this, so this is something I need to ask, ya know?

I did park my car, and start it back up, and found no issues with it or the engine. The check engine light has not come back at all. Of course, I will have to drive a bit tomorrow so I should see if it comes back then.

Was I just being stupid? Pushing my 96k miles car too far?

I treat this thing like a child, I don’t fuck with it at all. Lol.

I just gotta know, if the thing with the engine light is something I should be worried about?

OR that light came on because I’m a weetood and it won’t happen again unless I do it again.

You did nothing wrong, a car should withstand some hard acceleration every once in a while, but your car has an issue with it

#

Since you probably have no mechanicing experience, i'd take it to a shop to get diagnosed

@shadow fractal what if I don’t do what I did before and drive it normal and the engine light and error never appear?

#

I mean, I do plan on getting it serviced in 3k miles

That doesn’t matter now because you did drive it hard and you have a CEL. Like Skeid said, you should take it to a shop.

#

The sooner the better so that you don’t continue to risk damage to your car

Oh, okay

humble pewter
#

What kind of issue would that imply? Or because the CEL came up just take it in because

@humble pewter bring it to a parts store that reads codes

#

Many will do it for free

if it can’t take that, how long will it take until it can’t take daily driving @humble pewter

#

problems don’t really fix themselves

It could be a simple issue

#

Or a code that only happens this one time

#

You never know

I took it to the dealership to get a second opinion, and the tech wanted to ride and see what I was describing for himself

#

While accelerating, the car jolted and shook on multiple occasions so that’s not good
