Hey people. My van got broken into on the 20th January, resulting in some damage and a hole in my sliding door (even with security locks) i'm still trying to get my door replaced/repaired through my insurance company. And nothing as of yet has been fixed/settled.
Now, as to my question my insurance renewal is today, and because of this my premiums have risen by 35%~ if I mention a previous claim.
So my question is, do i have to say iv'e had a previous claim on a new insurer if nothing has been fixed yet? I'm just trying to get some money off as this all sadly has cost me A LOT of money.
Any advice would be appreciated. Sorry if it isn't the normal questions posted here.

Are you changing companies?
@turbid lintel
Yeah, trying to go with Admiral
Company iv'e been with past 2 years have been useless
I don't think you have to say it. You could start a new claim the second you get your insurance, but if anyone finds out it might not go well.
I suppose if you cancelled all insurance, thereby closing the claim, and then opened an account with the new insurer you could theoretically claim it. The problem is that admiral probably wouldn't cover the damage if they know that the car was damaged/broken into before you signed up with them.
Insurance companies in my experience all kinda suck.
Yeah I see what your saying. Assuming it's all on a system now so if I was to do that, and then Admiral looked up at previous claims they might see it. Then i'd be screwed.
Am I better off just going for the cheapest quote if their all quite terrible, in your opinion?
Pretty much
That's if admiral looks but if they're smart they will
The company who iv'e been with still comes up the cheapest funnily enough. Then all the rest jump up by £500-1000 or so.
GG @turbid lintel, you just advanced to level 1! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
Ugh, well. Guess i'll just go back to the same company. Thanks for the help @dusky axle
Never had a claim in 6 years, now i'm learning they are all pretty naff.
Yeah-no one likes paying for things
Hope it all works out for you!
Oh-one last thing.
If you switch, there's no chance of you getting your claim processed. So, staying with the same company is sadly the best option until they pay up.
Yeah i'm going to stay with the same company. Just a quick question, do you know why it's cheaper if I go back through compare the market v's the renewal offer I directly got from them in my email? Is it because it thinks im a "new" customer rather than an existing one? @dusky axle
Sorry to ping you
Just wondering if there is any downside going through the comparison website rather than renewing directly from my renewal offer i got in my email if that makes sense. As its the same company
Probably not im guessing
Probably not, no
The renewal they sent me was £1292 and the same company through compare the market is £1116.
Anyhow, a lot better than 2k+.. i'll get rid of my illusion that any insurance company that costs vastly more has any of the customers best interests at heart. They are all the same.
Thanks for your time this evening
