Well check if the timing chain has been done, since it can be a lot of work and money to replace sometimes. Especially on a vq since it is a closed off timing system.
Check for head gasket leaks or sweats
imo it is not worth that much; more around 8 to 9 max
check the service history on the transmission as those cars get beat on hard and probably has had already multiple owners.
Because of the closed off system they are not as accessible to actually mods as per say other engines (as i am pretty sure the chain timing system closely resembles that of a 37 engine). And i am talking about actual mods like cams, valves and pistons. So if you have plans for like intake and exhaust upgrades you will be fine with those options.
Only other nag with those cars is the engine bay space being a bit crammed, but that is it.
imo if you like the engine and the brand aim for a 350z, its a much better driving experience and you will defiantly have more fun in a z chassis with that engine than a g one.
My friend has one, and it came from factory with a carbon fibre driveshaft which I thought was really cool. Also seems like he has a great time driving it; and says it handles really, really well.
