Hi, I have a 05 accord with the k20a6 engine in it. Bought it a week or so ago, but a few days ago the alternator started whining, i at the time thought it was just a leak in the air hose and didnt worry too much, but its become apparent that its coming from the alternator (or compressor but i believe thats unlikely).

I have a 600km (400 mile or so) trip ahead of me tomorrow! Am i good to go or do i need to get a new alternator NOW?

Update: when i unplug the alternator it whines less, still a sliiight whine that i think i can hear

Am i right in assuming thats a electrical failure and not a mechanical one?

Check how battery voltage with a multimeter

Shi if u have a obd2 scanner u should be Able to read it from their

I dont have an obd reader sadly. Can check battery voltage though, what values should i be looking for?

check your battery voltage when car is off

Then see how much of a difference it is when the engine is on

Should be 1.5-2v difference
