So i have stock Jeep TJ axles which are front Dana 30 LP and a rear Dana 35. I started to push power out of the engine and im looking to go bigger with up to 40s for tires. Now im wondering if i should get Dana 44s from and rear which would be easier to swap but more expensive but i don’t know if they would hold up to the 40s or i go with 05+ super duty axles which are dana 60 front and sterling 10.5 rear which would hold the 40s but they are a lot wider and need more extensive mods to make it work. Sorry it’s a lot to read i just don’t know what to go with.
#What Axles?

How much power?
right now i push about 220hp and 300tq conservatively but i’m doing a turbo kit very soon
Regearing would be much cheaper tbh
i can’t run 40s on a dana 35 and gears, the axle would be destroyed
Super duty axle would be wider
yeah it would give a very wide stance which idk if i want that or not
but if im forced to then i guess it’s fine
Ft lbs or nm
but if dana 44s would hold 40s then i’ll do those
ft lbs
Maybe get the super duty axle because they would handle the 40s tire without getting damage it
@opal vortex
front dana 30 wouldn’t hold but i can get jk rubicon axles that are dana 44 front and rear but they are expensive
also am unsure how 40in tires would fair on them
How much?
they usually go for $5k for both but i have to rehear them and add the conversion kits too
Damn
Those axles are kinda thin tho
while i can get super duty axles for $1k and regear and add the kits and then i’m good
Maybe just get the super duty axles
That's a good price
the only downside of the superduty axles is that they take a little more work to fit and that they are wide asff
Are you going to build a crawler?
it’s another 12” of axle width for the front and closer to 10” of width in the rear
yeah it will be
Did anyone put super duty axles in to a jeep before?
yes it’s pretty common
Can you show me a pic?
most common 1 ton axle swap is 05+ superduty axles
this is using the same front axle but it has a gm 14 bolt rear
sorry for bad quality it’s from an old article
It's fine
I can easily see it
not legal in Maryland but it won’t be a daily once i start this
i’m already planning on getting something else so
but i’m going to be stretching the entire wheelbase 3 inches in the front and 8 inches in the rear aswell when i do the axle swap
maybe coil overs too
What country?
haha nah
Upgrading to 40" tires on your Jeep TJ is a significant change, and it's important to make sure that your axles are strong enough to handle the added stress. While the Dana 44 axles are stronger than the stock Dana 30 and Dana 35 axles, they may not be strong enough to handle the weight and torque of the 40" tires.
The 05+ Super Duty axles are much stronger than the Dana 44 axles and are capable of handling the added stress of the 40" tires. However, as you mentioned, they are wider than your stock axles and will require more extensive modifications to make them fit.
Ultimately, the decision of whether to go with the Dana 44 axles or the Super Duty axles will depend on your specific needs and budget. If you are looking for a more cost-effective solution and are not planning on doing extreme off-roading, the Dana 44 axles may be a good choice. However, if you are planning on doing heavy off-roading or rock crawling and want the added strength and durability, the Super Duty axles may be the better choice, despite the added cost and modifications required.
It's important to keep in mind that upgrading your axles is not the only modification that will be required to accommodate 40" tires. You will also need to upgrade your suspension, steering, and brakes to handle the added weight and stress
this is much needed thank you so much in advance. i plan on doing heavy trail riding, lots of miles, rock crawling fs but low speeds and not a whole lot of bouncing as i have a back injury and it limits that. budget isn’t a huge deal as i’m willing to afford it but i would rather not spend over $5k on the axles alone. i would like to ask if there is a way to shorten the width of the axle if i wanted a slightly more narrow track?
Shortening axles is an option, how about getting wheels with a different offset?
