#ITBs?

i have a 68mil throttle body off of a Jeep 4.0 on my fully built 2.5 for context but i seem to be running “rich” but i’m still getting the right amount of fuel so i assume not enough air is the problem right now. i’ll be sticking with the single when i go turbo but for naturally aspirated would custom ITBs increase my airflow over the 68 mil throttle body? or do i have a different problem
You can’t just get custom itbs made
You are gonna have to get a donor from like a gtr
The advantage is a more direct and conventional path for air to flow. So you get an increased throttle response. They also sound fucked
Making a custom plate for your itbs to mount to your head might not even work, and it will cost a lot of money.
Also paired with velocity stacks; you have a more simplistic engine setup and larger bay as u remove ur whole intake setup and maf. The only annoying thing is getting it tuned.
i was thinking about ITBs from a honda
Ohh I was thinking of a inline 6 jeep
yeah the 2.5 is the 4 cylinder so it’s close to k24 in size
idk about the actual head specs tho
i already have a port and polished head but i could get a new one for cheap and machining is free cause my dad knows the guy
Lucky
k24 wouldn’t work but i feel like i could find some other 4 cylinder that has ITBs out there that i could use but i could make a custom manifold, that would be a fun project
GG @fathom spindle, you just advanced to level 26! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
idk this would be an insane project wouldn’t it
I mean if you got a machinist to make you a adapter plate for your itbs, I feel like it would be pretty straightforward. May have to fiddle with your cable a bit but it wouldn’t be too bad.
yeah the cable would be simple
i might get out some cardboard and start looking maybe make a 3d printed model of one then get it machined out of aluminum or something
i just gotta find what ITB setup would most closely get to where i want it
Take out your intake gasket and see which itb setup matches the best
i still have my old one so that makes it simple
i’ll look at that on saturday cause i don’t have work or school
If you are running rich then it isn’t the right amount of fuel. How are you monitoring air:fuel ratio? I assume it is running closed loop in which case the ecu should adjust the injector duty cycle to maintain a target ratio. If it was running rich the ecu would just pull fuel away. If you aren’t running closed loop like some kind of speed density or other open loop type tuning strategy then the issue again isn’t with the throttle body it’s with the actual tune calibration data.
your pushrod off roading engine likely won’t benefit from itb’s. It’s not a simple thing it’s a 2-3k investment in to sourcing the throttle assembly, adapters, harness modifications, and standalone ecu
just save your money and go turbo
what he said. Clean your MAF, if applicable, check your LTFT, clean injectors, check fuel pressure, etc etc
yeah i’ll look into what you said about everything it’s odd that it’s running rich without adjusting itself tho i may have an issue with one of the sensors then
i was looking at it today and injectors are brand new fuel pressure is good and temps are good it’s just a rich smell to it
ITBs were more of a coolness thing than anything anyways
smell could be oil or failing cat
I wouldn’t assume it’s rich off of smell, long term fuel trim (ltft) is the best way to check
it’s very gas smelling and it’s only exhaust i don’t have leaks. i also don’t have a cat anymore lol
yeah that’s why
