Its a common issue for the 4runner’s 4x4 to stop working. Till now the stuff i diagnosed and checked:
4x4 actuator working✅
Front diff sensor working✅
4x4 computer module working✅
4x4 button working✅
Vacuum Solenoids not checked yet ❕
Front diff lock working ✅
so after diagnosing everything. I put actuator manually to 4high as soon as i turn on the car it automatically switched to 2wheel drive accordingly because the front diff was unlock. This meant it received the signal to be in 2wheel drive and in one way system was communicating. Then i pressed the 4x4 button, the lights on the gauge cluster went away for a sec and started flashing meaning 4x4 not connected. I got under the car and checked what didnt not connect
Front diff locked(received the signal).
Actuator didnt moved( possible no signal received)
So here is a theory.
Maybe i need the 4x4 shaft connected so the front diff locking forces the shaft to rotate which then connected to the transfer case where the actuator is. Maybe the actuator needs a vibration or a movement of the transfer case to engage in 4x4.
Any suggestions?
I will take the car to some transmission wiring guy who can check if the wiring is the problem somehow.(i doubt it)
Any suggestions from fellow 4runner guys?
