4g94 idling like its suffering

My broyhers 2003 mitsubishi lancer OZ rally is idling like its desperatley trying to grasp at something and its idles horribly and im not sure how to fix it

Everytime i take it to get read for codes the reader says it cant pick anything up

Could be a misfire

Try pulling coilpacks one by one

If the idle stays the exact same when you pull one of them then you have a misfire

Could a missfire also cause over heating?

Are you losing coolant?

Sometimes it is and sometimes it isnt

If the exhaust does not clear up and you are losing coolant (without it leaking externally) I would suspect a blown head gasket

You can test for exhaust gas in the cooling system to verify

And I think some parts stores let you rent them but I can't remember
