what really helps with traces are 2 tinker equips for 300%ish each a potion and one of the new crusade boss cards

just unlock what you got and equip those 🙂

tanks help too, it just takes time till you reach the appropriate bonuses, then it becomes an instant unlock.

(also don't forget how gains are bugged unless you perma refresh the screen or use candy, so a 2 hour candy on botany might give you tons of traces)
