Holy fish
πππ
look at the funny face on this guy
florida flagfish (technically a native though i bought him at a petstore)
heres a non fish, but almost fish enough
dusky salamander
its swag
Wonderful fish
You are truly the fish master
thank you, i will post my 40 gallon tank here once i renovate it
the substrate (soil) in it is inert, and cant grow plants
which sucks cause basically every fish on earth loves plants
also somebody requested a pic for a johnny darter in another server, ill post it here
darters are fun little fish that lack buoyancy, so they dart around the bottom in between rocks, plants, and look for bugs
some make nests and become very protective of their territory
theres like, 300 species or something
i forgot how many
all are located within north america, most in the states
across 3(?) genera
fr

heres a rarer species, tennessee snubnose darter
located to a single river drainage, bet you couldnt guess where that would be
this one is very bossy and likes staring down basically any new fish
also chases other darters from his territory
other darters like this orangethroat darter, i believe this one to be an immature female, but mature males will have bright blues and oranges during summer
colorful darters arent always the most fun to keep since they tend to be drama queens and dont retain their color like other native species do
renovating the 40 gallon
the sludge consumes π
still waiting for this to clear up
leaving some air room near the top for displaced water when i eventually put more rocks, gravel, wood, etc in here
i have three fish in there and im hoping none of them attempt to jump out
two are different species of dace, which are a stream minnow known for jumping
but they tend to not jump when placed in good water quality and not in a stressful situation, which this would not be considering they have eachother
there is also a baby minnow in here who is somehow a gigachad fish 1/100th the size of the biggest minnow in here, and yet has thrived for the past week since he escaped his small holding tank
biggest minnow that will be in here*
striped shiners from tennessee
a species i dont have at home here
in the creeks
Kind of looked like a frog lol
fair since theyre both amphibians, salamanders are just long frogs
Huh neat
Hard to spot due to the camo skin
a lot if fish change their color very slightly to fit their environment, so that makes sense
not like a chameleon or anything
Nice
but fish can control how dark or light they are to blend in
Reminds me of that rock fish w the super venomous stingers
those things are neat
Though these guys do it do hide from predators rather than hide to fuck your life over
lol yeah, besides, a rock fish has less to worry about usually anyway, big bulky fish near the shore of the ocean vs tiny fish in the middle of a big river with tons of bass and other predators
40g clarity has gone up a bit
i did basically just put mud and clay in the bottom of the sand
so itll take a little bit
all of the fish so far within it are doing great, the rest of the fish are in a cooler next to my bed
This could go crazy as an album cover
If you cropped out everything but the fish tank
Fishcore
true, gotta add more rocks and driftwood then we get fishmellia
some of my fish turn a bright red with warm weather so theyre basically camelliafish
Flying in the flow of the water current
Wait no it's already called flying in the flow of deep sea LMAO
But yea that purple color is really nice
i might experiment with the scaping on this one, usually i do basic overall structure with grueling details
basic structure as in just pushing and stacking everything high up in the back
but i think i can make it look natural while also doing something unique and good looking
usually that would be easier with driftwood since it is literally the goat of fishtanks
i dont have that much, and the driftwood i do have is half mid
cause it half sinks which sucks
fish π
I found what I believe to be a catfish on the side of the road today
It was raining quite a lot earlier
It swam into the drain before I could do anything
thats sick asf
probably walking catfish
never seen one in person since they dont live here
but theyre pretty cool
they love these big rocks so far
the blacknose dace will dig in between them with their nose looking for little bugs and stuff
guess you could say the blacknose is
doing some
BUG COLLECTION

real, now hes basically relentlessly taking up half of the tank
LMAO
this mf so real for this π
rusty crayfish are invasive here and its illegal to throw them back if you catch them
you must kill them
damn
