When the application for the programme teams go out (the team lead positions were in this newsletter), I highly recommend applying to join. They really appreciate having young people and they don't expect you to have qualifications/experience or anything. It's a massively rewarding experience

I didn't think we could because it's like the big boy pants stuff

I was on the cub team so I can only speak for them but basically it involves reviewing the current programme (like the lands of adventure, the Turas Taisteal and Tagann badges etc), making a few resources on the programme and also supporting the teams that run the events for your section. There was a bit of overlap between the Cub Programme team and the Cub Challenge team and all.

I went in at 19, one of my friends was 18 and another of our team was 15. They really appreciate young people because a lot of the people on core teams for the younger sections are a bit older (the venture team was all under 30 though).

The jobs I did were running the Instagram and also giving my feedback on input on the cub programme as someone who had experience the current programme.

Because SI really pushes for youth empowerment, you can join these teams when you're in Scouts and older. This includes DEI, Sustainability, Communications and Sea Scouting, not just the section teams 😄

We mostly had online meetings but we rented out a meeting room in a hotel in Tipperary once because we work better in person and it was really productive! I got to see the team at things like Cruinniú and cub Challenge as well. I didn't join the team through the normal application process, I went in as a youth rep and stayed on so I actually don't know what training there is 😅.

The people on the cub team are genuinely so lovely, I think a lot of them are staying on as well so good decision 😄
