As mentioned several other places by other players, the death system is antiquated in today's medivia.

Now, players are expected to carry many many unique/quest items, multiple sets of armors, etc, to the point where it's potential character ruining to take a death with no blessed sigil attached.

This mechanic of item drop on death worked great in classic tibia but it really does not work well far into medivia content once players reach level 200, 300 and beyond.

My proposal is to change how this entire mechanic works.

The new system would be item breaking.

Upon death, every equipped item slot has a x% chance to BREAK.

BROKEN equipment does not disappear. It does not drop in your corpse. It remains equipped on you.

You can then repair any broken equipment with some combination of items or gold (ore, bars?)

Broken equipment will be reduced in it's effectiveness until repaired. For example, a broken giant sword may have attack of 42 until repaired, or some/all attributes on items are paused until a repair is made.

If the repair system could require bars and gold, and allow us to smelt almost any equipment item down into bars, this would solve so many issues in one system. Item sink, gold sink, removing outdated overly harsh death mechanic.

The bars required to repair could be relevant to the item needing repair.

For example, repairing dragon scale mail would require 4 vanadinite bars and 4500gp (10% of NPC value) or something. And I could smelt a normal DSM down to receive some amount of vanadinite bars.

Requiring multiple types of bars for end game equipment would keep lower tier content relevant and recycle "trash" items.

The blessed sigil would now serve the function of "reducing all item break chance to 0%" and still be consumed upon death.

(With this system, no items will drop in corpse upon death ever, even without blessed sigil/AOL equipped.)

To maintain the thrilling sensation of "I must retrieve my corpse before it rots and my items vanish forever!", we could tweak the bless system somehow to return some small % of skills and exp loss by opening your corpse before it fades, thus incentivising returning to the sight of your death in a timely manner.

Conversely to make it interesting in PVP, since the opponent has no chance to ever loot your items, maybe right clicking your victims corpse will give you some small boost of exp or temporary buff while also removing their ability to retrieve their corpse.
