what specifically about your marth gameplay are you trying to improve?

woeful bloom
#

I play for esports so I need the competitive edge of a secondary

woeful bloom
#

I used to be in hs esports though

ah
well this applies to college too but you do not need a secondary and it will only slow your progress down, ill talk more about my personal experience and thoughts about it (i cant force you not to secondary marth or anything like that) but i see a lot of people fall for this trap

#

give me like 10 minutes im in class rn

woeful bloom
#

Alg no worries

woeful bloom
#

That's why I want a lighter character. I'm tired of having hellish matchups

but yeah, last year i was in hs esports and got 4th for playvs singles and won the sectional for solos with solo robin, a character considered pretty bad. I constantly played “bad matchups”
But because i didnt change to a secondary at any point in my journey, i felt confident that i could still do it, that i wouldnt be like “ughh if only i went x character first” i could have won. If you stick to king k rool and play to learn and focus on yourself like i assume you have been, youll do better than if you invest significant resources into marth.

#

youll understand why those matchups are bad and which situations are favorable for you, youll know the options available to you even in weird matchups

#

and there is another thing that comes from playing a “bad” character

#

there are not many good king k’s, but there is so many good sonics and steves and sonics, youll have a lot more matchup experience

#

of course, you can still secondary marth and either way ill help, just thought i should put that out there

#

like no matter what, marth or not, youll still learn something and be able to get better, just that a good chunk of knowledge you learn wont apply to you at any point

i get that, at my locals i dont play my main in early rounds for some variation and to see how other chars feel

#

but like 95% of those chars i dont practice or anything

woeful bloom
#

I can get pissed and it messes me up

#

Like for example I struggle against good Marios or Luigi because with my bigger body I can handle it but I also struggle sometimes

dry yoke
#

emotions can be a good thing, i get pretty emotional while i play, the main thing is you gotta ask yourself why your feeling this way. if im mad because im getting my ass kicked, even in bracket ill take a breather and stop playing to win. instead i focus on trying to figure out solutions to whatever is frustrating me (and not vague stuff, like “how should i be positioned in order to punish falling nair from fox, what can i do after he nairs my shield, etc)

#

either i lose, which is expected, but i learn something

#

or i learned and i win

#

this has helped me multiple times in bracket especially versus those problems matchups

#

like every week at my locals i have to fight fox, one of robins worst matchups, and versus a player before this year i had only beaten ONCE

#

because of focusing on learning more and using my free time to answer questions i couldnt solve while playing

woeful bloom
#

Also another thing is that's weird with zoners I actually do really well against for some reason

#

Fighting those are my specialty in some way

dry yoke
dry yoke
#

especially crown

dry yoke
#

like even in bracket ill be winning but still struggling

#

especially in those tough matchups

#

but i understand why im struggling and know what options i have for these situations

#

i remove the nerves i normally had before

woeful bloom
dry yoke
#

and instead, i have confidence that whatever i do in this situation, whether it works or gets called out, has logic behind it and isnt from panicking

dry yoke
#

another thing is that by sticking to king k

woeful bloom
dry yoke
#

when your better youll actually understand every matchup atleast to a decent degree and know what matchups actually need a secondary

woeful bloom
dry yoke
dry yoke
#

generally no though

woeful bloom
dry yoke
#

my top 3 is a bit weird too, id say for me its robin Rob then M2, but its just because i enjoy playing them so ive atleast played them a little bit and their kit makes sense to me

woeful bloom
#

But for the main part I play a lot of low tiers

#

I can play Bowser, DK, somewhat Dedede, Little Mac, Doc, King K, Ganon, etc.

dry yoke
#

its because majority of them are simple, one dimensional. its partily why they are considered bad

#

but a low level their weaknesses arent exploited as well so they get away with more

woeful bloom
woeful bloom
#

Only thing that sucks for me as King K he's commonly played

#

So people already know what to expect

dry yoke
#

this is true, but competent king ks are rare

woeful bloom
dry yoke
#

imo its a spectrum (competency)

woeful bloom
#

One thing for example that catches people off guard, jumping above ledge, doing neutral B, and falling down (kind of like how we do on plats) and it can catch them off guard at the randomest of times

woeful bloom
dry yoke
#

if your in range of it anyway

#

if not just waiting works but can def be used

woeful bloom
#

Or just simply nairing on ledge

#

Or catching a jump off ledge with fair

#

So many options

dry yoke
#

yeah there are a lot of mixups you can do

#

your just forcing good rps which is good when lacking info

i appreciate you asking and yes you can!
