Pet water fountain that is originally Tuya based converted to ESPHome.

Not 100% feature complete when compared to original, but core functionality is confirmed.
3 colour indication for TDS values, still to be expanded to indicate filter expired and water change required.

TDS calibration is still needed, waiting on a TDS meter.

Conversion is simple, 6 screws on the LED diffuser cover, 4 screws on the circuit board to remove. Unplug circuit board, solder on 4 pin header and flash firmware. Header fits under diffuser cover so can be left on board.

I had a dumb fountain, just with a pump, that I automated with an ESP32 module and a MOSFET because the pump was a bit noisy at night. Then it turned out that the cats didn't really like it anyway!

Awesome. I realize now it's already in my history 😄 . Didn't use it as a guide because of the "massively overkill" relay, wanted a smaller mosfet. Still, nice one!

Even a good dumb fountain makes a world of difference in the amount of water my pets drink, and I don't worry if we leave the house for one/two days that the pets will not have water.

I have a knockoff Petlibro Capsule ( https://petlibro.com/collections/automatic-fountain/products/petlibro-capsule-automatic-pet-water-fountain?variant=40378089898031 -- I think the factory is selling on the side on Alibaba) and I only clean it and replace the water once a week, and replace filters every 3 weeks

Nice! I was able to replace/rewrite the firmware on another pet fountain I got off amazon that was ESP32 based.

Question - what is TDS / TDS calibration?

Total Dissolved Solids sensor. Basically from 0 = distilled water to 500+ parts per million don't drink it or you're gonna be chewing stuff. https://www.dfrobot.com/product-1662.html

For me, it's basically feature complete. There is some other things in the original product like being able to turn the LEDs off completely, and have a schedule for them, but I never used it and have no intention of using it so I'm not going to bother try replicating that and potentially break what I've already got 😅
