I've been playing with homeassistant recently and decided to use a spare ESP32 to build a satellite. Pretty happy with it except for the grainy voice on audio out. If anyone has suggestions let me know otherwise I'll live with it for now.

nice work, I found with those speakers that the wires connecting from the back of the connector to the cone, can become lose and result in a bad quality output,

It's all soldered well but will check. It's happening with several different test setups I have so I think it's something in the amp but not sure.

yeah just give these a check , they might look ok , but they have given me issues very similar.

Might also be sandy dust in between the coil and the magnet, not easy to clean.

You may simply be clipping digitally. Check the waveform between the poles of the speaker with an oscilloscope.
