A knife switch makes a great binary sensor for the mad scientist lair that is my local hackerspace. Home Assistant runs an automation when it gets triggered. Very simple config, lots of Halloween potential.

It's a hackerspace; random hardware just shows up. I see there are some on eBay

arching "noise"? why not actual arcs? 😁
Srsly, these modules cost 3U$S and are extremely loud and bright!
(e.g "high voltage generator" in aliexpress).
Warning: these are most likely actually dangerous
