#[×] Some (regional) trains are significantly faster than they should be

@carmine meteor, I suppose it is only an optical illusion and combination of factors like:

  • One train braking for signals because of other traffic but the following train having free tracks - the latter seems to be catching the former
  • Speed reduction once one train traverses deviating path of a switch wile the other does not

Watch the trains with Follow the camera toggled on to see both the train and its current speed & slowdown reason

But how does it catch up with the other (green) regional train from 0:38 to 0:48 (in the video) although it had to wait for another train while the green regional train was able to just drive through because it had free tracks everywhere?

the faster one seems to operate at 200 rather than 160

@carmine meteor do you have a save from the starting point of that video?

carmine meteor

Not directly before, no, but I'm sure I got some save from a bit before the starting point

i just fast forwarded your first save to get the same 889B9 train (next instance so it was 889B1)
i followed it and it behaved as it should.
i guess its just a specific set of circumstances in the level that caused it to complete its route quicker.
Since this is a very complex level its easily possible to have tiny differences have a big effect. like a train going in front of another when a previous cycle the other train went first just because a signal allocated its route 1 second earlier.
maybe you ran some trial train that affected other trains causing a chain reaction.

so i dont see anything wrong here that we should fix.
so unless you can show that (on a very simple map that easy to reproduce) a regional train goes way faster then it should we cant fix anything here.

Very interesting, must be very specific then
I don't think this is a bug which neccessarily needs fixing, I'll just keep an eye out in case it happens again but other than that I see your points

Feel free to reopen if you will have new findings

I don't necessarily have new findings, but I captured 4 fast trains in my last playthrough - I filmed them, got the player.log and the last few saves for every one of them in case you want to look further into this

I watched the videos, saves and logs and i see nothing out of the ordinary.
The trains dont go over their max speed, the acceleration and desceleration is fine.
also comparing them moving on the board to other trains on the same route they are exacly as fast.
So it really does just seem like some trains having more luck with a "row of green lights" and others having to slow down for signals or other trains.

So im afraid there isnt really anything to solve here.
