I don't have the vibration when I shoot guns!!! It messes up a lot with your gameplay.
The vibration was reduced significantly in one of the updates like year or more ago, but now it's just.. well.. I don't feel it AT ALL when I play, but when I concentrated and tried in the lobby, I felt like super slightly, maybe 1% or less from what it used to be.
The vibration when I use shakers is fine, but rez is a bit less and basically nothing at all when I shoot.
I play through Steam with Meta OpenXR.

One of my teammates who played on standalone, said he now had vibration in both controllers with every storm tick (none for me), extra new vibro when he is shot (not for me), so it messes him up when he shoots a gun with usual vibro and then also get vibro from being shot.
I mean.. There is more and other people in lobbies complained too.

same here. I have slight vibration on my right controller but none at all on my left, and nothing on either when I reload

@elfin walrus native seems to have been brought down closer to the level pcvr has been ever since the openxr update where we had to use experimental branch to have good haptic feedback which we cant anymore....
during that time native haptic feedback was always strong but just tested here and the 2 are closer in line at least in training park though native still slightly stronger overall.

least that is me testing quest 3 pcvr to quest 3 native. haptic feedback on native prior to update was perfect honestly and had hopped pcvr would at some point get fixed to match it not the other way around

meta pcvr and steam pcvr felt same in training park to me. didnt notice them being worse than before but they definitely were worse than what native quest was which is how it used to behave on experimental branch for us

I also have vibrations when I get shot from enemy, which is EXTREMELY confusing. When we get shot, our intinct reaction is to start building, but if the controllers are vibrating my brain thinks that I’m shooting a gun because I forgot to change to “free hands” to build. This is extremely confunsing

I'm quest 2 standalone as well so there must be a slight difference in haptics for each player, weird.

I’m on PCVR using VD and Meta App. No haptic feedback at all when shooting. Not good at all. It’s thrown everything off for me.

turned it off last week, one of my hands lost haptics completely, confirmed this is a bug with Punisher_ISR.
very weird to play without haptics at all, i didnt even realize how much i need haptics for proper reloads, and overall gameplay feel till this bug

The revive vibrations feel off. The left controller is different to the right. I don't like it.

Uzi’s don’t work. The left vibrates but then gets stuck in half loaded position but doesn’t actually shoot

No haptic feedback in your offhand when you change a magazine or rack a slide on the gun. Makes it hard to tell if you've successfully reloaded your weapon unless you look down at the gun. @violet ether

There's also something just a little goofy with your off-hand when holding the weapon with it. I can't put a finger on what exactly but it feels "loose". There were a couple times yesterday where I my off hand was supposed to be gripping the stock of the gun but didn't look like it was... it was yellow as if it was engaged but off to the side of the weapon. I wasn't always sure if I had a grip on the gun or not until I saw what the recoil was doing

Thank you so much for posting this, RadFox. I'm on a Q3 using virtual desktop to access Steam VR, and the game experience killed my inner child. If I wanted no feedback when I grab things, climb things and shoot things, I'd go play Fortnight. But I don't own Fortnight. Why? BECAUSE I LIKE IMMERSION IN VR. Yes, PopOne is a cartoony FPS. It's not milsim, but for all that is good and holy, please don't downgrade the experience. Was it intentional, or is Big Box's QA understaffed and overly exhausted?

And I want to add: I was fine with the haptics until yesterday's update.

(and my teammates were saints for putting up with my bitching, moaning and complaining. Team: "Nev, what's your favorite gun?"
Nev: "Well it was my lovely lady UMP, but now it's none of them, since they all feel like I'm grabbing and humping air into submission.")

as we work through the migration of haptics to the Meta Haptics Studio Integration, we are reading all feedback as we work through it. More improvements and QoL for these haptics may come in the next release in December. I will keep monitoring this thread and all thoughts are appreciated, but unless I have new info I will likely not respond to pings unless I have questions!

fwiw quest 3 headset updated to v71 and included a controller update today... desktop app was still on v69 however... haptics still very broken unfortunately. missing reloads left and right now
might try the publicTestChannels and see if they improve anything at all but not holding my breath

Anyone get haptics working? Pop 1 news says "Theyre using Meta Haptics studio for haptics now". and then they left the generic dev.hapticstudio url. It's a bunch of tech jibber jabber over there. I just want to play! (and not classics hahah)

Using Quest Link and Steam VR at same time with Pop1 running in Windows 7 compatibility mode you can have Haptics

#

Running both can adds about 10ms of latency and is a bit unstable but most people who don’t play comp might not notice so worth a try

Without compatibility mode it won’t launch in SteamVr and won’t have haptics. The pop1 game is what needs to be set to Win7

"May" be fixed in December seriously...? 1 to 2 months "maybe" ? This messes up basic gameplay so much (reloading, shooting, rezzing...) I don't understand it's not higher priority

Some updates:

  1. We have identified the issues with Uzis/Matadors
  2. We are looking into the potential of a slider system for haptics for increased player control
  3. We are looking into improving the prioritization order of haptics (such as reloading/climbing always being felt over being shot etc)

Timeline could be in a hotfix or the planned release for December. If/when there is more info about the Uzi/Matador fix and outcomes of our decisions for prioritization/sliders I will share here.

No haptics on pcvr here either. Not playing the game on native quest. So while understand you don’t give a damn about players not playing. Here you got the reason after last updates.. can you for 1 time don’t ‘update’ the game and not fuck up another thing. Every single time again and again you fuck up something else in this game.

I'm using a Rift CV1.
Oculus PC version: gun haptics have a one or two second delay, and are very weak. Delayed or no haptic on raycast for loot pickup.
Steam Version: Gun haptics seem to work.
Both versions: menu raycast hit will activate haptics for both hands.

Relieved I'm not the only one having issues, but I hope this gets worked out.

Slider is there but Uzi and haptic overall still very broken. The haptic feedback on pcvr quest 3 is still not close to the strength of the feedback we had back on the old experimental version. Can we increase what the max level results in since there is a slider as max now itself is way softer than what we had previously.

The haptic feedback also just feels off. Eg pick up an m60 and mp9 and the feedback will feel like it's delayed some and missing all together per bullet fired.

I'm afraid the issues are still there, even after full reinstall of the Dec. 10th update.

  • Haptics are delayed by about one second on bullet fire and loot raycast/highlight.
  • Haptics are very faint, even at 100%
  • I can't feel haptics during reloading.
    I'm using a Rift CV1 which has a 90hz screen refresh rate. I understand this issue is due to meta forcing migration to their new haptics platform. I know old hardware is not always worth supporting, I hope BigBox is able to find a solution or workaround.

That's disappointing to hear. The game has played well on this headset since I first purchased and installed it in 2020. The outside-in tracking is smooth and responsive.
This was one of the original consumer VR headsets available from meta, and the haptics are still partially functional on the steam version (which unfortunately has other issues)

Since a slider has been added for haptic strength, would it be possible to add a checkbox for "legacy haptics"? Whatever the old code was, it worked well.

Yea. But I really have to ask (as I used CV1 for years) why not move to Q3?

Up till Q2, CV1 really was the best headset for PCVR.
But the Q3 really takes the 1st place now.

I can understand the comfort issues etc. But really, playing with CV1 nowadays and especially pop1 feels like a subpar experience.

The SDE, the low resolution, etc…

I can understand the frustration the the headset is not supported anymore for pop1. But CV1 had a great run for the past 8-9y since it released.

Can't really blame devs (or rather Meta) for switching to new haptics SDK and dropping support for CV1 at this point.

Currently on SteamVR, playing through Virtual Desktop I have no gun recoil on some guns and no haptic feedback

Its like the game ships with recoil cheats by default preinstalled straight out of the box now

Since you pinged me and this is the thread I started.. Yes, nothing changed since I wrote about the issues. Nothing. I mean, things got worse. But haptics wise, nothing changed, still no feedback even after a new "fixing" update.
After the recent update me and some other people experience unstable ping. Where it jumps during the game all the time. For example, on EU I usually have 60 ping, now it's anywhere from 60 to 180. Est is usually 130, now 130-260. West coast.. Just once I forgot to check and leave and opened my ping in the game once when it was well... Ping was 310. 2 pictures I attach is how I have to play now when the ping jumps now. Instead of 20 20 20 20 etc.. I get 80 20 40 100.. Very cool.
The game stopped being enjoyable in August, that's when the lobbies became dead and they did something with the matchmaking. Things only get worse since then.
I still get connection lost every day (started after August), it kicks me from the game.
Even if I get connection lost before the game in a lobby with 30 seconds left and I exit, it still gives me 0 0🤦‍♀️ as if I stayed for several seconds in a game..
Occasional black screens.
Dead lobbies most of the day (I used to stream from 2pm to 8pm DAILY on weekdays, now it starts being alive at 7pm,before you will find 0-2 enemies). Even in prime time it requires a long waiting time to get a lobby. But if you have a NA friend, somehow lobbies fill way better. Still not fixed..
Team gets separated sometimes when loading.
Often after the game is finished and you press play again, after a long waiting time, it kicks you back to main menu. Some days it does it every time, so we have to go back to menu manually as it is faster. What's the point of the button then..
Server selection barely works, often puts you on a server you turned off.
That's not all, there are more issues.

So yeah. I stopped streaming, stopped buying skins. Sometimes I play this game 0 times a week, sometimes 1-3,but even 3 times a week is super rare. Each session is 1-2.5 hours. And it used to be 5 days a week 6 hours a day.
I started playing some games where the community gets feedback from the developers each time you ask and even gets changes in the game and things added the community wants. Imagine if in metropolis we had fan art on posters. Well , totally possible but not here. This game could be so much better. But every update something breaks. EVERY.

When I think of it, last time the said they fixed friending, my friend list (affected some others as well) disappeared for 2 WEEKS. And you'd think there is nothing more important than your friends in a Social game, but it took 14 or 15 days to fix..

I found the solution!

To get haptics working, you need to use Air Link. Here's how:

  1. Install the Meta Link Windows application.

  2. Link your headset.

  3. Add the game to your library in the Meta Link application: Go to Library > Add from Filesystem, then navigate to your Steam folder (Steam/steamapps/common/PopulationOne/) and select the game's .exe file.

  4. Launch the game through Meta Link.

Haptics should now work as intended! @elfin walrus FYI

There's a popup/setting in the meta windows application for using the Meta OpenXR runtime. That also needs to be enabled

I think my headset would be able to last wirelessly only like 50-70 mins without extra battery, it's old. So it's 2 or 3 games I guess.. with how bad lobbies are. Lol.
It's not worth it even if the haptics would work. Go through all the trouble for nothing 😁

I just want to add that the broken haptics might not be even from BB side but rather Meta side.

I was abroad for a month+.
Before I went on my trip haptics were working correctly, when I came back I noticed that my headset updated to v72 (new menu and all) and I completely lost ALL haptics on my left controller.

Not just in game, but in Quest menu. No haptics in left hand whatsoever.

This is some next level bullcrap.

I got a pair of new controllers that I'm gonna test and see if they work correctly. But imo some controllers and specifically the vibration intensity just got f-ed by software update.

Funny how people are just now complaining about broken haptics on pcvr now. SgtSlaughter and I have been bitching about it for way over a year now. Seemed like we were the only ones. I used to have no left controller haptics at all but with haptic update I at least have haptics now even if they are a mess its far better than having nothing.

I know nothing about programming, but it almost seems like they should just rewrite the game from scratch. Right now, it's as if they just keep building on top of something that is already broken. And the problems just keep getting buried further and further.

@violet ether - Has there been any December updater or when is it due to fix the vibration issues, i'm back playing on PC and no gun recoil in Steam Version on Meta Version, when playing through Virtual Desktop. (Don't play with cable on Q3 as PC cant keep up with charging/drain when playing). - Happy to help with any test versions.

I really can't believe how something so basic is this broken.

One of the reasons I am not in a hurry to jump back into pop1.

For me its crazy that simple Meta OS updates can physically impact the functionality of the headset or parts of it for no reason.

If I didn't take good care of my headset I would really blame myself for damaging the controllers and I wonder how many users think that they are at fault for losing haptic feedback in their controllers.
