Hello Pop 1 community and Big abox devs.

Given the recent outrage around how our game is being treated.

I decided I’m going to write this post highlighting exactly what needs to be done in order for the game to grow, keep its current players happy, and make meta a lot more money.

Population One: Ultimate Royale (update name)

Major changes:
*Classic map removed from game for anyone above level 10
*evolving map has been set to default
*evolving map now supports 24 player match making
*Two new sandbox locations have been added to evolving map replacing dead river and the gap between frontier and foothills
*with the new locations the evolving map has gotten slightly larger
*3 new sky box renderings have been added for random rotation, now when loading into a Battle royale game you will either get: Default sunny, night time, sunset, or stormy with lighting, fog, and rain.

Gameplay changes:
*character speed and fling has been adjusted to a new default to match that of the scout class in Phoenix
*DT damage reduced to 88 per shot
*SPR damage nerfed
*smg damage against builds reduced (no more p90 60 rounds spraying thru builds)

QOL, event, and Store changes:
*new skins added to seeker silver store
*new milestone specific titles, sprays, and skins. (Example: 1000 headshot kills with sako = Title “S85 master” or something like this for all guns and advanced milestones)
*new “Ultimate royale battle pass” introduced for 25-30$ that includes many new skins, titles, sprays, flight trails you can get from playing this season.
*Friends list now displays how many teams are left in a game if you are waiting for your friends to come out.
*friends list now has option to DM a friend while in game short messages such as “can you play?”
*players can manage and reply to messages from inside a game from the menu section or from main menu.

My thoughts on why I chose some of the above.

First, this update is fucking easy.
It’s so fucking easy half this shit is already in the game.

As someone who has been playing for 4 years, I have conceptualized many many ideas for this game.

I left a lot of them out because they would require a lot of testing and work to see if they would even work or be good for this game.

I decided instead to focus on what would immediately fix this game and give it life for the next year or two while meta and BB figure out what to do next.

Some key notes of why I chose some of this:

  • I would love to see Pop go to 30 player lobbies, but beggars can be choosers.

*new sandbox locations: since BB can’t be relied upon to update the map frequently then that’s fine.
There are a lot of community map makers that would love nothing more than to design maps that could fit into evolving. BB could easily incentivize the community by giving specials skins/ titles to map Builders who build a good enough map to be inserted into the evolving map. Plus BB could gather the best builders and keep them under NDA and have them work on themed maps for future seasons. I had a thought and idea could be building 3 sandbox maps all themed around toxic waste or apocalypse vibes then drop a new sky box and battle pass for a whole season. It’s not hard keeping people invested in your game if you do basic stuff like this.

  • in the gameplay change section I turned up speed and fling some. I think this promotes faster more fun gameplay as well as making some of the height and verticality in evolving easier to manage for all tiers of players

*the gun nerfs are really wishlist item for me because I think SPR is stupid and people spraying 55 p90 rounds at my builds and killing me is pretty dumb, but I could live without these if we go the other stuff

*milestone specific titles and skins are needed badly now in pop 1. Many of us have been playing for years and have nothing but 1 or 2 skins left to unlock from progression. This is an area of the game that I feel needs work as currently outside of just fun and addiction there is no reason for me to grind pubs. I would love to see them give some incentives for both new and old players to hop into pubs and grind some.

*battle pass… Jesus you would think with all the other free 2 play games that have been a success over last 10 years that meta would just copy a successful titles plan and put it into place.

I’m telling you right now if you dropped a good battle pass that was worth the value I would be giving you at least 30$ a month and I’m sure I’m not alone. So there’s your money printing tip of the day.

*Friends list changes:
Again these are wish list items because it’s annoying not knowing how long your friends have in game. If I saw the whole lobby was alive I could pop into a TDM real quick. Or shoot a friend a DM letting him know I’ll be in TDM so spam me when you are out.
So many reasons for this it would be good.

I’m curious as to all your thoughts.
I personally feel this update I laid out above is truly not that big of an undertaking.

A lot of these changes are kind of already stuff we have seen in the game before.

DT11 should two-shot again. There is no reason to use the weapon anymore, the M1014 is better in every regard.

I do not want a bigger map, even with more players.

Skybox isn't enough, you have to change the entire map, I'd rather have the time and effort spent on that be spent on other stuff.

I think this is a bad idea, it increases the difference in effectiveness between high and low skill players, I think it's fine where it is.

I don't think builds need a proxy buff, if someone is close enough to kill you with a P90 while you're building then you've played badly and should face the concequences accordingly.

A bunch of stuff I don't care about.
I don't care about this stuff, sure why not.

Also display who is in training.

I disagree about speed buffs.
I think it will help players of all skill ranges climb faster.

Your missing the entire point with the map stuff.

Yes I would rather BB hand craft new sections of the map but clearly they aren’t going to.

So this is a way to let the community do the heavy lifting.

DT back to 88 because why not.

I’m one of the best players in the game. I know how to defend SMGs. But I find it retarded when someone can spray 60 rounds miss half and still kill me thru a build just cause he was hiding in a corner and started shooting first.

it’s not really a fact of playing comp, it’s more like going against higher skilled players which you will occasionally run into in pubs just steamrolling everyone with a broken gun

I honestly think close range weapons are well balanced right now. The DT isn't instakill but still rewards the players that work hard to learn it, the M10 now competes with the DT and is perhaps a little overpowered at gold but that's it. Mattadors are deadly in the right hands but easily countered and Tec-9 is a good counter for all of it while still requiring some serious effort to use at a high level

If anything, it's the sword that people haven't caught on to yet. Sprint + sword + 120hz is ridiculous

So... My opinion on the DT11 might be a bit skewed, as I joined the game with it dealing 104 damage, with it swiftly being nerfed to 94 after I actually began using it. I'm just a bit salty about learning how to use a powerful weapon then having it taken away. Here's an idea: what if it did 25% less damage to shields...?

If there were only devs who would actually take notice and implement even 10% of what actually was suggested instead of doing stuff no one asked for.

Matchmaking was garbage before the exodus and there was enough to fill lobbies reliably, there just aren't enough people for quality tiered matchmaking even with only one mode at 24 players. What should be done is switch to one mode, and IF matchmaking is good, THEN consider increasing lobby size, but I'd put money on that not working. People really underestimate how many players are required for quality tiered matchmaking, games far larger than this have problems.

I think you're underestimating the amount of work BB would have to do to integrate community designs into the map. But I don't think this is an argument we can settle without input from BB.

You may be one of the best players in the game but this scenario (avoiding ambushes) is obviously (since you're complaing about it so vehemently) one which you underperform. The P90 is garbage to mid most other situations, just like the M60 is pretty garbage to mid in most situations, but they are effective in the mostly in the one niche of countering builds. If someone wants to carry one of these guns for that reason they have to sacrifice an inventory slot. I really don't see them as OP in any meaningful way, they are niche guns for niche situations.

P90 is the bet SMG right now

Primarly due to the magazine size. Not just because of build breaking but also because you can stop firing mid magazine if someone throws a build up , flies behind you, moves behind hard cover etc.., press, and still have plenty of rounds without needing to reload

Honestly some good ideas some bad ideas here. I think dt is genuinely pretty balanced against the tec9 and m10 and I think all have viable use cases. Skyboxes are simple and easy, sandbox integration is definitely not. I kinda like how the spr fits between the sako amd the fal, but the damage is too crazy. A simple damage nerf should keep it usable but not op

Scout class is fun but def increases noticeable lag and generally makes the game feel more lucky and less skillful imo

Map doesn't need to get bigger. 24 player lobbies would be nice and I agree that limiting classics to noobs might be the move

All these suggestions aside, I think what's being shown here is that no matter what happens in game people are always going to have a giant list of changes they want to happen. From a dev perspective, particularly a studio with meta as the driving force, this is just simply impossible. I think it would be a lot more valuable to spend out time emphasizing realistic, very easy changes that can take place in small steps

Maybe we just start by asking for skyboxes instead of overwhelming bigbox with 30 item lists
