i did some digging of my own and when you add somthing to a group the minecraftinstance.json is edited, does that mean the group name is stored in there somwhere in which case i can find their names and make a new group in curseforge them hopefully everything will show up

I go through the link in the app, which redirects into the firefox browser at overwolf.com for the login page. I enter all of my account-information and get this message: "Your sign-in was successful, you may close this window and head back to CurseForge app.
If you are not automatically redirected, please click the button below to open the app" but it doesn't redirect back into the app no matter what I do.

Occasionally the Minecraft game when launched tries to use the IPv6 stack to contact Minecraft authorization (auth) services.
Usually this is when trying to join a server but can also happen because of mods trying to contact services.

• To set the game to prefer using the IPv4 stack - put the following string in the 'Additional Arguments' box.
  -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
  • The text box is located in Curseforge App settings > Minecraft tab > scroll to bottom of window

You could join if it was set to false, that setting is for checking user authentication. ie false means no auth check, which can include no skin checks

Hey guys quick question in regards to SDV modding. I recently removed the Steam command to play vanilla with a friend, but wanted to play modded again, so I put the command in again and launched it through Steam. It says there's only 2 mods, but I have like 70+ mods in CurseForge (Launched and checked, mods are still there and work.) I just can't launch it through Steam. I've found the StardewModdingAPI.exe file path and copy pasted the path into the command necessary for it to launch through Steam, but it just keeps launching with 2 mods instead of the 70+ I have. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

How do people decide how much ram a modpack has?

I estimated mine needed around 9-11 but someone is telling me it could work fine with 6 due to my optimizations

and it makes me wonder

how exactly do people measure how much ram is needed for a modpack?

My basic understanding is

Too little means constantly cleaning = lag

too much = too much to throw away at once causing lag spikes

but there explanation is (english is there 3rd language)

"it's not the game nor the java
the java machine has an issue it takes as much as it can
it fills the ram every time
despite how much you give
and it just stores redundant information that should not be loaded
that's why this happens
there's no throwing away at once
it happens by blocks and it's automatically gestioned, actually each function has a living time sorta
in which if it's not used anymore it deletes itself from ram
there's no actually "everything at once"
everything is handled when it's needed and when it's not it's removed
and any of those opreations are just very very cheap for your system to handle them
so it barely even matters

the java machine has an issue it takes as much as it can aka it does happen that way cuz each time you run minecraft
you actually run a virutal machine
a entire operation system

and beacause of that minecraft can be pretty slow despite not looking very cool or not many operations happening
it's pretty hard to optimize it prorely cuz it's jAva which is mainly used not for games but for corpo bullshit
however that operation system, you cannot interact with it
by any change or any mean
it's fully automatic

for example in C you have to manage memory allocation manually
which is pretty annoying
in c++ you have to show the compiler/garbage collector where to look and to which addres in memory to work"

But this part:

there's litearlly nothing you can do to controll that
then you might think, so then why do mod packs take so much ram, specifically big ones?
well about 20-30% of your ram usage in big modpacks is NEI
which when you run the game stores are the recepies in RAM, and the rest mainly are the items inself which are also stored in RAM. and the items themselfes do not really exist unless you access them. then they actually generate and you can see the crafting recepie

The best RAM to allocate can depends on the hardware, OS, and JVM arguments you are using. It's worth to note that it's not much of a problem anymore with Java 25, and not a problem if you are using Linux and MacOS - this is only in Windows using something older than Java 25 where too much RAM allocated can become a problem.

Generally the recommended amount is 8 giga, you can check the real usage with Spark. If possible, this could be even better to check the RAM usage with VisualVM.

If the RAM usage exceeds 8 giga, I recommend to add RAM optimization mods such as ModernFix and FerriteCore, you can enable the Dynamic Resources mixin of ModernFix which will be very useful to reduce the RAM usage.

There is also other ways to reduce the RAM usage without sacrifice contents, such as adding JVM arguments. However this method can actually backfire in a more brutal ways than using optimization mods, and might prove to worsen the stability/performance in some situations and environments - this is to be tested heavily and there could always be someone who perform really badly with the new arguments, especially on older hardwares.

Thanks for the response, but my Discord is perfectly fine, detect all my games without problems, before asking here, i made a little research but didn't find anything related, the most similar issue was the "Do not execute Discord as Admin" but is a general issue where Discord in admin mode can't capture any activity, while in my case, the only activity that doesn't show is the CurseForge, any other game activity shows perfectly fine.

Anyone have another suggestion?

I'm using the standalone version of the launcher, and Minecraft is the only game i play through CurseForge, I also give it permission to use my Microsoft account in order to directly log-in into the game (idk if that matters for the "Presence"), and yes i also tried to force the activity recognition here in Discord, but by doing that the "Rich" part of the Presence was lost, because it only shows the time CurseForge remain open, no "navigating modpacks" nor "playing X modpack", etc.

Im the author of https://www.curseforge.com/hytale/mods/rpg-companion Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm wondering if its possible there could be an FAQ section added to mod pages in the top bar for all mod's and if there is a way there could be a note from auther a user can accept or decline before a mod updates for major changes. My V1 to V1.1.0. may cause players to loose data as I've built a more robust system for persistence so they need to unequip there companions before updating but as far as I'm aware there is not an efficient way to notify users of this (please correct me if im missing something).

It's not possible to put a "FAQ" in the top, however you can add an issue tracker and a wiki link in the top.

As for the in-game issue there is no way to make sure someone sees it if they don't pay attention - people already do not pay attention to the "update all" warning, much less a page description.

I don't know much about Hytale but if it's similar enough to Minecraft in a technical level you should be able to make a copy of the saves before the player enters them, and add a chat message on join explaining the player about the issue and how to restore the backup created by your mod.

I wish there was a better solution, but it's what I would do if one of my mods had a similar issue.

Ah, alright. Sorry I misunderstood. It's a known bug which "seemingly" happens at random with no way to reproduce it, it's rare and even doing a copy of the same modpack and trying to update again is not enough to reproduce the issue on its own.

I reported the issue to the tech team but did not get any feedback yet, this should hopefully not happens again as this is pretty rare but it's always recommended to backup the modpack outside of the app folders just in case.

Hello CurseForge Support Team,

I’m having trouble launching the CurseForge app. When I open it, I get an error screen that says:

“Oops, that was not supposed to happen! Seems like we could not load CurseForge. Let’s try this one more time!”

Clicking Retry does not resolve the issue, and the app remains stuck on this screen. I’ve attached a screenshot showing the error for reference.

Things I’ve already tried:

• Restarting the app
• Restarting my computer
• Checking my internet connection (which is working normally)

At the moment, the app appears unable to load due to a possible network or client issue, even though my connection is stable.

Please let me know what additional steps I can take, or if you need logs or more information from my side.

Switch to the curseforge launcher here. Restart CF completely, try again.

If the issue persists, go back, choose mojang launcher again, but now you also want to look where it says launcher type. Switch that to Microsoft. Restart CF again, it should be fine
