[1.74.6] Missing Child Quest Ending Bug

At the end of the Missing Child (or sibling?) quest, my mechanic Elijah Gonzales went to the K-series vessel. I got a confirmation 'XX Acquired', and continued mining. There were several events in the area at the time.

Shortly after the CERF headed towards E' at Mach WOW, I got a 'Catastrophic Failure' message for the quest vessel.

I thought nothing of it, until I get back to E', after 4-5 more astrogations, and a handful of other events; to find that neither the vessel or my crew were available.

I was under the impression that 'Acquired' meant that vessel was secured, regardless of subsequent happenings. BUT, aside from this, if the vessel DID suffer failure, should I not see my crew returned, as S&R would have picked up the lifepod, later?
