#Transferring cargo between THI containers and power ran out

I went to the Geology tab and turned off the transfers but it still didn't reboot until I dropped a container? I didn't know transferring cargo used power, though that makes sense.

Should this not have rebooted or gone slow rather than just completely shutting down my ship and making no progress?

I had no HUD so have no idea what was really going on.

On the experimental branch

It is also possible that the autopilot became so unstable that it blitzed the thrusters until power ran out. I'm not sure.

This ship seems too twitchy, I probably need to increase the degrees of dead zone

Transferring ore does take power. And when you turn off the toggle on the geology tab, it attempts to transfer the ore back, so it also takes power. This power draw is not significant through, and I suspect that the reason of your brownout was MPU power draw, which can be significant.

When your on-board computer is powered down, you still have manual thrust control, and the data can be observed on various OMS screens.

When power came back on, I tried the transfer again - the ship's balance of power was never negative.

#

MPU is unlikely, since the cargo hold was empty

I don't think I have enough information here to act on.
Another thing that might be causing power draw is the arm actuators. While they don't draw power in "arm locked in" position, if they need to move the cradle (like, because of power cycling the cradle arm and the container moving out of the way), they will draw power.

Fair enough. I didn't know if there was a useful bug here or not. It was just weird - and weird is often a subtle bug.

It's better to have a report for something that is not a bug rather to not have a report for a bug.

have also experienced this with a UIO THICC, but not my own

#

pretty rapid power drain from just having it on the arm, no ore transfer
overcoming mili turbine's production

#

... i posted the log and it immediately stopped doing that

#

😭 i was drifting cold, it was all an elaborate prank

might be that the cargo wasn't able to lock into the standard position, so the arm just kept tugging it against the hull

#

i haven't noticed the power drain before, presumably because i usually catch and release UIO THICCs

It's got to do something with not perfectly placed X (containers in my case). When the container is in a "jammed" position, it looks like the arm takes some hundreds megawatts trying to lock it down. almost fried my reactor and my computer in succession... 😅
