#Basic MPU that cooks water out of nuggets and leaves them in the cargo bay

  1. It makes sense that it would exist. If heating nuggets to get the water out is the first and presumably simplest step of mineral processing, it could be available as standalone equipment.
  2. It would bridge the large price gap between a bare cargo bay and the very expensive (for a fresh character) first MPU
  3. It's a perfect fit for the new OCP-209 ship, which has minimal processed mineral storage, but a very large cargo bay, so it's best suited to hauling in ore in unprocessed form. Currently this playstyle is very limited as it means carrying a lot of excess water weight, and giving up on remass recovery.

Naturally to avoid jamming it would need a very large active area, like the Rusatom MPU (maybe it's just the heating and remass collection parts of a Rusatom MPU)

As a bonus distinguishing feature it could have baffles, which would be fitting for its purpose.

Duplicate of a past suggestion of mine. Lemme fetch the thread link...

I see it was shot down because making nuggets smaller could cause physics problems, but it doesn't have to make them smaller, just lighter. Let's say they end up porous. It's still very useful.

I guess it could work. It wouldn't have the purpose I wanted out of it and I don't see much reason in having this other functionality, but that just means this MPU isn't for me.

I'm assuming remass would be an option for this mpu?

I feel like this could be nice for those that don't use mpus because they reduce the value of what you pick up.

The idea is that it would have remass recovery, yes.

I actually prefer a big gap to mpu, because bare bay is valid, potentially profitable play style, depending on how you handle it. I think it's good for the player to need to do a few short, fast turnaround drives before disrupting the play style; if it suits them, it's not something they'll never know because they finished that phase fast. (Though you can still skip that phase in one dive with a good salvage.)

This would just be remass so you can bring less fuel and therefore less weight.
But yeah I'm not sure about this game balance wise.
It would make sense irl though that if you are going somewhere with that fuel, it's easily accessible and you are already collecting the objects with the fuel in it that you would harvest that fuel instead of buying and transporting more.
Especially in space where every bit of mass is time, money and contributes to how the ship flies.

Well, the voyager is specifically made for that circumstance.

Just not as cheap as envisioned.

as in it would just take the ice out of the chunk and leave the ore, since it wont get hot enough to melt said ore, just the ice to create more propellent.
