#MENACE

So to start off, I'm curious where the next two "story expansions" teased in the road map will go. Will they slow down equipment gathering to spread out existing tiers of kit, or are we going to start slinging purple man group weapons xcom style?
Heavens knows that the fucking ||MENACE skirmishers|| have autocannons that make ours look like jokes
what a menacing thread...
I didn't realize the road map was actually out now
will take a look

It’s been four weeks now since MENACE was released into Early Access. The time immediately after the launch was even more intense than the weeks leading up to Early Access, but now that things have calmed down a little, we want to get back to publishing regular dev diaries so you folks can see what we are up to and what we are working on. Fir...
The single shot special/vehicle weapons really bring out that xcom feel.
there are like 3 planets we still have to investigate
I bet that at least one would have cutscenes the way we do zama
It is finally time to let you know about the first bigger update of the MENACE Early Access. Please keep in mind that while we are working on the big milestone updates you find on the roadmap, we are simultaneously improving balancing, reworking the UI, tweaking the AI, adding minor content like items and operations, and fixing bugs. We will, of...
dangit
beat me to it
does look pretty cool
and even when not counting the mechanics I think the vibe is pretty neat
going from 'we used xenotech to make this laser shootier to' 'antimatter grenade'
Why is the steam store such dog
the news section keeps crashing
Tldr
Menace is gonna drop alien components, then u have to buy blueprints to be able to make alien items.
There are 3 tiers.
Is it worth picking up right now or should I wait until they cook a bit more? Looks fun af
Absolutely worth. Pretty good chunk of content
agree
Dev Diary 43: this is XCOM 2.0
question:
is an RPG a good counter VS an enemy in a watchtower?
I hate the rouge army even more than I already did
the dislike is a mix of having access to heavy weapons, and the fact that they seem to have access to the ability to engage outside of my weapon range
IIRC squads in watchtowers take damage when the tower is destroyed, but you might need some regular firepower to finish them of.
I am also not quite sure on how the mechanics for hurting the squad directly works, but there is one.
Rogue army exists to punish long range cautious play because they do completely out gun you at that
Their counter is to aggressively isolate and destroy their elements, often via quickly closing in. If you do not have the violence available to do that, smoke grenades and launchers give you breathing space to isolate enemies
But I liked sitting there and eating the purple bullets ✊😔

Proper Rogue Army battle tank 🙂
Many have been asking a lot about this, and we can finally show it: an actual battle tank that players can use to go full war mode! This is a shorter diary, presenting the new vehicle, but we are, of course, working on lots of other things simultaneously, like the Construct loot overhaul we talked about last week. Also, next week, a new UI devel...
Unrelated patch note:
Discouraged enemy AI units to seek cover right next to player vehicles
oooh tonk
Okay challenging is not fucking around
There is a lot of fucking pirates
This is planet 3
Achilleas was down to running people over after he went through all his extra ammo, Pike's tripod LMG was empty and he was piping people, and Lim has SAPP armor so he was fine
CORONE DID FEAST
Sending Achilleas straight up the middle on a confrontation final mission worked surprisingly well. It turns out that having 3 shots a turn (pike was playing cheerleader) and Lim ready to hop out and smoke anyone who got close kills pirates dead
The first 5 or so turns were just slaughtering them as they rode their jalopies up to me
Ay yo these purple man group blueprints suck
I gave my left nut on the black market and I got ||a detection booster and a morale buff||
Where's the beeg gun
You mean the ship upgrades?
Naw, one of the recent updates added black market recipes that you can then use [REDACTED] parts on
Since I hit the end of the EA campaign I decided to sell everything to see what there is available, and the options are:
|| - An AR
- Stun grenade launcher
- HE rocket launcher
- armor booster
- detection booster
- morale buff
||
I think there is one more but I cannot remember it
After all those the black market recipe item disappeared so I think that's all right now
Oh. I missed that one then. When your equipment is strong enough to hunt REDACTED you are probably well enough kitted anyway.
Yeah, I was sweeping pretty hard at that point
Though the new REDACTED enemy is really fucking scary and we do know that the current breed of them is "mk. 1"
More scary than REDACTED in general? They can be quite frightening when you are under-equipped to face them
Yes
They're kill on sight even when you're generally rolling the purple man group
Yikes
BIG SPOILERS on what it is ||It's a seeker bomb artillery piece that drops 2 of the bastards right on top of your troops. If you do damage to it the thing drops a smoke screen for the turn to escape||
It punishes deathballing hard which is uhhh spooky because thats a good way to fight REDACTED
Sorry. Can't look into it because I havent played for a couple updates
Understandable
So Darby's sniper that I have rn is decent as an AT weapon
handy
New Patch Time
Wait when's drop time
would I need to start a new game?
Pog
running into issues with manpower
like half my casualties are from the last two missions
Do you have WOO?
nope, mainly since I thought the squaddpies were per op
Squaddies are a relatively expendible resource. Especially when you start running with mercs and pirates like Sy
And you are going to lose a lot alas.
Achillies looks like a high risk high reward
he feels like you are meant to take a shit ton of damage and then benefit from it
Yes but also shieldwall perk makes you incredibly durable to anything except like, purple man group
Since it means that the primary threat to him, RPGs and ATGMs, require minimum 3 turns to kill him
If you're eating multiple ATGMs a turn that's on you
I mean I don't think you want to get hit, it just makes it less bad when you do.
Also having backup vehicles is a thing.
