In mid-to late February, I challenged myself to make two NPCs for the Lancer system every day of March. The reasons for this are twofold. First off, I have been blessed with the skill of making a working prototype of something relatively small relatively fast, and it only takes me two-ish hours to get from the initial idea to a usable statblock; If I made two NPCs every day for a month, a task I'm pretty sure I could handle, I would end with 62 NPCs, which is just an absurd number in terms of GM utility. For context, the core book offers 30 NPCs in addition to Human, Squad and Monstrosity.
The second reason is while I do have the advantage of speed, I felt this project would help me build a skill I'm not as good at; consistency and reliability. The day before I was to begin, war broke out in my home country, and while it has given me time away from my job, it has also left me frazzled and running to and from bomb shelters. I've struggled with sticktoitiveness under better circumstances, but the small and defined nature of the tasks involved gives me a decent shot at making it over the finish line. In roleplaying games, if you know a course of action is not going to succeed, you don't roll.
For the month of March, I'm going to be releasing the NPCs I make for the challenge as they come down the pipe, offering the service at a discounted price for buying in early, and in case I don't deliver the full 62. People in the pilot.net discord have advised me to keep it to myself until the month was up, but part of the fun of a daily thing like this is logging in every day and seeing something new, and I work my best when I have at least some people watching me and cheering me on. Note that I won't be updating the NPCs from earlier days until the month is up; that would just bog me down when the goal is to have a prototype.
