Yeah, I've tooled around in the sandbox a minute and got a pilot and should be ready to go with a medium tank
I appreciate this highly convenient Where To Shoot simulator that lets you load up all the tanks and all the weapons and see where to hit people

I had a lot of fun with blink shenanigans last playtest
so how does this work, do I pick one tank to buy with the starting currency for the actual playtest?
You should start with a few tanks already
yeah, I have four, but I would like to dabble in Ikarus or Deadeye rather than any of these
silly extendo-turret has charmed me immensely
Also I'm going to say this now: You cannot track (immobilize) hover tanks
Yeah they give you enough to buy a pilot you like better than the default 4, I bought the deployable wall one
torn between plane boy and levitating turret medium
I suspect the medium will get me killed less because that plane is just asking for it
RAM is very fun if you want to try and break the level designs.
That is what I spent my playtesting doing. You can use the boost to try and clip out of the map, or turn sideways on walls, etc.
I am wondering how many of the impassable mountains you can land on with Ikarus
Did some brief poking in the test range and this giant railgun tank seems surprisingly low in damage compared to the normal medium
The tanks are pretty durable overall, even with a 90mm pen gun it's a good few hits to get a destruction
Yeah, the lights especially are pleasingly durable at first glance
Deadeye seems to really chunk things with two 200-300 damage shots
Mhm. The goal, as I understood it, was that it took a very coordinated team strike to kill any of the Tanks quickly - even then, probably a volley and a bit.

Railgun has good alpha and iirc outtrades anyone plus very good pen but you don't have the dps to burn someone down

Managed to get wall tank to 20 and heal tank to 19 in the 2 hour time limit which would be a nice rate of progression in the real game and totally won't actually happen

Yea in an earlier playtest than ran into issues with large squad sizes

The one time we got 2 squads on the same team we had an incredible push
So I'm very interested in playing with larger squads
Who did you play?
Mostly the Mines tank, but a little bit of the Heal tank as well
I was grouped up with Misc and Misc did very well, I'd never done a tank game so I got got early a bunch on account of "oh I'm somewhere where there's no cover and folks were holding an angle, no time to back up"
Wall tank and heal tank are both very powerful force multipliers

I never got to try it but in like exactly 1 game Thijs was the Ram tank and I wanted to see what the Speed Boost Heal would do for him.
My tank knowledge consists entirely of "don't go over a hill to get the drop because now your undercarriage is exposed" from tank airport fiction where it opens up with a training sequence where that happens

How did survival feel? Did it take a while to get killed, even when you were caught out?
heal tank seems crazy
depends a bit on the tank but you usually could back up at least once if you mess up sorta
but you could pretty easily just get trapped in a bad spot too
I died a lot but I think I fought reasonably well, I never felt that I was just eradicated without being able to make plays
whenever I bought it quickly it was usually because I made a bad call about where to stand and failed to take the painful escape route early enough
you're definitely more durable than in WOT or WT
or because I was hunting specifically to kill you >:)
I nearly had you that one time you shot me from the rock formation in the pass
I was 0.2 seconds from being loaded
I really like the Deadeye
rock solid medium tank with an ability that's great for peeking

after some poking, Ramp seems to have really solid all-rounder medium stats, feels relatively easy to maneuver
the jetbikes feel really awkward to me, might just be an acquired taste compared to Icarus and Drone which both get high-damage autoloaders and still shift pretty quickly
stealth bike especially has a fixed-forward gun and is paper thin, at first glance it's a WOT-style dedicated spotter above all else rather than a zoomy skirmisher per se
yeah the stealth bike does have a nice gun at least
but yeah it feels awkward at best
I can see what Ashley meant by the dialogue, Deadeye has none so I was not experiencing the world's most uninterested voice acting
its kinda interesting there are no like, conventional tank destroyers

I mostly tuned the science lady out
I think I prefer deadeye to science tank in basically all particulars performance-wise, but the teleporter is such a good bit of support tech compared to the jack-in-the-box turret
even if teammates can't use it it's still just a convenient don't-cap-me button
I am interested to see what starts happening when people have enough of a vehicle stable to take modules off one tank and put them on another
there are some great energy farming components that I imagine might be good pickups for healtank or something with a cheap ability like Deadeye
and lots of stuff that I just want to play with in combo generally, like the precision aim bonuses and Signature Obscurer/Weakness Analyser
I can see that I never really got a chance to try that
but I really liked the autoloader on the science tank
just 5 shots that do 100-150 depending ish in fast succession
the teleporter is so sloooooow
I kinda like the idea of the boopy turret
I think a stacked heal tank might go crazy
or a few of them together
the deadeye has incredible burst
pop up, put 600 damage into a guy, hide until reloaded
considering going module hunting to get +1.5s off my reload when I go unspotted + 15% faster reload when unspotted and trying a total coward build, or the 10e refund on ability use + heal for energy cost of ability + lifesteal shells to get 25hp out of every 15 energy
the heals are definitely clutch
Yeah in a game with traditionally no heals, being the only heals on the go and not a 20 second static zone cap means the heal tank leads the day
I'm definitely a fan of the autoloaders of all kinds offensively, I wonder if the amount of facechecking relative to the amount of cowardice will decrease as people gain experience
I imagine it will, nobody knows the maps yet

the main advantage is the intraclip reload is like a second, so you spend very little time standing there emptying the magazine
science tank has nearly as much DPS but I found I could sometimes be cheeky about the deadeye and not get hit in return

the science tank is also like moderately robust if you invest but yeah, 1s is pretty fast I think the science tank is maybe 2s or so
I enjoyed the little zippy VTOL tank although every time I pressed the vtol mode I crashed it in hilarious fashion
if I just pretended my F key did not exist I did great with it though

I'm researching that now on the Tyr Discord and I'll update because that was a buzzkill last time for sure
Got a dev response, looks like the 10th will also be 2 person queues, they're aware people want bigger queues and will update in playtest announcements when the queue size will increase
Well, I'd still be interested. It was fun to queue into each other too, though admittedly I'm more interested in larger scale teamwork.

we ended up having to alternate who was on the team most the time and then just hope we landed in the same game anyway
(which in our defence, we actually did, a few times. sometimes same team sometimes opposing which was funny)

I am 100% down for more tanks, I have been kind of wishing I could play more Tyr over the Xmas period

Yeah the USA has advantage some folks get the Monday off on account of President's Day holiday, and that's not standard
I'm 50/50 if I can make it, severe weather may hinder internet, and I'll confirm closer to session time. Tomorrow's test is same build as last one with 3 player queues so probably won't be 'til the 28 February test they get bigger
I'll be out of action today for the playtest, looking forward to the 28 February playtest though, should be good blasting
Tonight's playtest is up, with a few new silly custom gamemodes like All Ikarus

60fps smooth 90% of the time and then occasionally it just crunches down to 3fps for 5-10 seconds, which is not the best

I'll be a bit late for tanks today on account of an errand going long, it's an updated client so should run nice
yeah I'm mid exalted session right now, will also be down for tanks once we're done
first playtest after the server wipe, UI is much nicer now
also I got shot out of the air in Ikarus and my wings stayed deployed so I was just a taxiing plane for a bit, interesting bug to report there
I have really been enjoying the recent playtests, they smoothed out the performance issues from the early ones a lot
technically they did a reset but they also handed everyone enough in-game resources to immediately get all their stuff back, so it was really just "remake all your builds"
just found out we have this here
They're doing another playtest on the 8th of May this Friday since the 2nd had such a big turnout
this one is specifically for 30 hours straight, so lots of time to get a squad together
